I do have a dumb question when riding is there a way you have or could do a video of what to look for in horses working their back while lunging? If not it’s fine figured I would ask lol
@HollyLenahanSJ6 жыл бұрын
There’s not really enough to make a whole video on, but I can give you a few pointers here! First make sure the horse is tracking up (there’s probably videos online if you’re not sure what that looks like) also you want to horse’s head and neck nice a low but their head should not be behind the vertical, their nose can even be poking out a little bit :) and make sure you’re keeping the horse going forward with plenty of energy so they’re engaging their hind end 👍🏼

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a stiff mare. Started doing these - and at the start she could barely reach past her shoulder on the side of side 😂😂and still not a fan of stretching the hind 😂

It’s great to see them improve! And knowing that flexibility will make them much better undersaddle really helps motivate me to keep doing them ☺️

My horse gets mad sometimes when i brush his stomach bc hes just ticklish. also make sure youre tightening the girth slowly over time sometimes that causes it :)

she is so fLUFFY!!! are you thinking of clipping her when it gets a bit warmer ?
@HollyLenahanSJ6 жыл бұрын
She is super fluffy! And I probably won’t because she’s already starting to shed and by the time she’s in full work, she’ll probably have her summer coat ☺️

@equinable25966 жыл бұрын

I bought I mentioned it in the video, but always after! Stretches should only be done on warm muscles ☺️

Question: Will Welbeck get better in time with the stretching. Like will she get more flexible? Just wondering because when I do carrot stretches, my horse can only go about half way down his belly too.....odd
@HollyLenahanSJ6 жыл бұрын
Oh she definitely will! It’s like a person learning to do the splits, you keep stretching and practicing and you get more and more flexible 👍🏼

Could I ask what are the spots on her back couldn’t be rainrot or something and does it hurt her ?x
@HollyLenahanSJ6 жыл бұрын
Yup it’s a bit of rain scald that she got a while ago but it’s healed now. It doesn’t hurt her, we’re just waiting for the hair to grow back ☺️
@angelreedxo6 жыл бұрын
Do the stretches not hurt your back? because mine always hurts especially when stretching the back legs 😬😬
@Laurensji6 жыл бұрын
If your back is hurting just means your putting too much pressure there - if remember to keep your feet shoulder wide apart, legs bent and your back flat it shouldn't hurt - Holly's position in this video is pretty good Maybe something to try :)
@HollyLenahanSJ6 жыл бұрын
Remember to bend your knees and rest their leg on your knees so your legs take the weight and not your back ☺️

College and horses being competed highly typical get a complete break from riding for 1month+ over the winter since the SJI leagues are stopped till around March/April time
@ellajohns2456 жыл бұрын
Everyone doing upper level should stretch their horses every day, optimally, both before and after exercising, and once on rest days. It's good to see someone actually stretching correctly. The only issue I had was the coat of the horse, his coat is quite dull for a horse that's doing this advanced of work - he either needs better grooming or better feed!
