I worked with horses a lot in my youth and early teens, but it's been over 20 years; I have a chance to help a nearby older neighbor by helping with barn work and caring for their horses, and this video was a GREAT refresher for me! Very clear, informative, and easy to follow. It's also clear how much you care about your animals, which really inspires confidence. Thank you!

My mare Willow (rip) was a rescue from severe neglect and abuse, and it took her a long time to accept any form of touch. I was about 13 when I got her as a 2 year old, and I was primarily the one to work with her. At first, she would panic any time I would go past her shoulder; never aggressive, she would just turn her rump away from me and back up and (sometimes) half-rear. After a few months of patient, consistent work, we had an excellent bond, and I was able to touch her anywhere. She really came out of her shell, and LOVED being groomed, and any form of attention once she realized she was safe. She taught me so much patience. I trained her on ground work/halter, under saddle, taught her a few simple tricks like hug, kiss, etc., and just loved the heck out of her. ❤

I love love love your channel! One tip I have, if you have a wild boy like mine, is if their tail is in horrible knots or a mess, a little bit of Olive Oil helps to gently remove the tangles. I put a bit of Olive Oil on the tail, massage it in and then work hair by hair to untangle. I want to make sure he keeps his tail so he can swat flies and such! The tail is very important :) thanks so much!

I learnt that if you want to pick up a hoof you use your shoulder to push the horse over a little so they take weight off the leg and lift it more easily.

I have my bariactric surgery this March. I'm gonna be 18. I've always wanted to ride a horse but never could because of how overweight I am. I'd love to barrel race one day. I asked my mom multiple times saying "as soon as I'm cleared from the doctors I want to take riding lessons." and I really want to. I've only been around horses a few times. I'm gonna have to get over my fear though. Weird how I can absolutely love horses but I'm terrified at the same time lol. I'd love to have at least one horse but I dout I could afford it. I'd really love to have one though. I love them too much to not have one at some point in my life. Your videos are very helpful and I've added two of your videos to my new horse playlist.

My favorite horse products are Ecolocious Products...smell good and are made with good ingredients; I sometimes finish grooming with a slighty damp towel- helps to lift any lasting dust or grime. Grooming is one of my favorite things - I take my time and sometimes groom for an hour. My horse likes it and sometimes naps during the grooming event :-)

It's something I learned when I got certified for equine massage. It won't completely stop the kick, but it does give you leverage against the horse. I've had a few horse's try and kick during a massage, and I find that it does help somewhat!

Very instructive for new horse owners. I'm always being asked how to groom horses by teens with their first horse. In the future I think I'll refer them to you since I'm not much good at giving instruction. I've worked with horses for 60+ years and it has all become automatic so I tend to assume they already know half the stuff they've never been taught.
