A few years ago I was in a Home Health Care store buying parts for my dads wheelchair. While browsing around I found and purchased a removable cling film cutter which could be transferred from one box to another. Very much like the Freeze Tite winner, but portable to a new box of cling film. It was around $5 and worth it.

I find them all difficult to work with, sticking to itself very easily. I recently bought the Reynolds brand on sale and it wasn't very sticky but it was thick, the sliding cutter is very bad on that because the wrap is wider than the track of the cutter. The best I've used so far is the Walmart great value 300sqft product. It's very sticky and the sliding cutter on that works flawlessly.

They didn't even talk about the most important part of a cling wrap. Does it cling to itself unnecessarily when you're trying to use it. And does it actually clean properly to the bowl without bunching up. Nothing more frustrating than tearing off a piece of cling wrap and then have it cling to itself before you get it to the Bowl. Who cares how it tears off of the box if it doesn't cling properly.

I dunno where you got your prices from. The winning option is a lot more expensive than you're claiming. You linked to 500 square feet for $40. That's $12.50 per 100 square feet. At Walmart (available online only) it's $16.79 for 315 square feet. That's $5.33 per 100 square feet. And you've really got to ask yourself: what are you using this stuff for? Is paying 4-10x more for the winning option necessary for what you're using it for?
@Heizenberg324 жыл бұрын
The price may have gone up due to a rush of people buying it. The item they link to is nearly out of stock as of this writing.
@Toolman934 жыл бұрын
You might want to check your math. $40 for 500 square feet works out to be $8 per hundred. On top of that, the price is for 500 linear feet which is 630 square feet (because it is 15” wide) so closer to $6.30 per 100 square feet.

jack tracy, I just RE-checked the Amazon link and the video, and my math is still correct. The video says “$4.19 per 100 square feet” and Amazon says $39.97 for 2 rolls of 250 ft at 15” wide. $6.30/100 sq ft is about 1.5 times as expensive - definitely not 4 times. BTW, that video was filmed in June 2018 (ATK is re-releasing lots of older stuff because of Covid) so a price hike is not unusual, especially for Amazon who is getting more and more expensive compared to local prices.

Single use plastic needs to be banned. It's bad for contact with food because of plasticizers that are added which are hormone disrupters, and bad for the environment because it's not biodegradable. There are other options, like waxed paper, washable covers made with cloth and beeswax, and you can buy glass containers with lids.
@mygirldarby4 жыл бұрын
You have to wash those things after every use, so the water and any detergent you use, cancels out some of the benefit to the environment. It's like that with reusable straws too. It might be a slight benefit to wash and reuse, but I think it's pretty negligible. Corporations need to become more responsible and make straws, wraps, etc. biodegradable. It isn't feasible to solve environmental pollution and packed landfills on the consumer end. It has to be done at the corporate and industrial level. If every single individual gave up all non-biodegradable products and recycled everything, it would only account for 1% of landfill use. In other words, big industry and big corporation are filling our landfills and polluting our water/air at a rate of 99 to one. Consumers can't fix that problem. It will have to be done via legislation to regulate industrial amd corporate waste, and fines for not complying.

Unfortunately Amazon has become a fairly safe haven for price gougers these days, by making it so difficult to report them. Because of that you can also find a six pack of disinfecting wipes for $180(that would normally cost $15 to $20) there, too. I wouldn't look to Amazon anymore to find fair prices.

@@charlenecastaldo3602 I never buy anything from Amazon. Never have.. abuse to the workers is a problem and secondly trying to make the third party harder to sell.. And then they charge so much because of Amazon Prime? Yeah, it not a good market place.

Very informative video. Thanks. Can anybody explain why so many “chefs” keep saying TIN FOIL when it is actually aluminum foil?
@jamesec19494 жыл бұрын
Because those of us at a certain age remember tin foil. It’s now a misnomer like many other products. Examples are Kleenex for tissues, Channel Locks for tongue and groove pliers, Xerox for a photocopy and Saran Wrap for most types of plastic wrap. Besides, tin foil is easier to say than aluminum foil. Two syllables instead of five.

So stretch tite is the Costco brand and manufactured by freezetite, so Costco is the way to go here.

Disappointed that you never mentioned the change in Saran wrap that led to the change in its clinging ability. Whatever the truth is about PDVC, none of the wraps are anywhere near what they were in the past and it should have been addressed.

Press and Seal is a huge fail for me. The whole roll got screwed up because it wouldn’t pull out. The idea of this wrap is genius because of what it will stick to such as plastic. The delivery system however is really flawed.

probably should get some reusable one to cut down on plastic waste.
@mygirldarby4 жыл бұрын
You mean like you reuse the sheet you cut over and over? I don't think that would be viable. And you can't really wash this stuff, but even if you could, you would be using excess water, which would cancel out most of the benefit of reusable wrap. Plus it probably wouldn't be sanitary to reuse it, especially if it was used to wrap chicken, etc.

Plastic wrap definitely has it's place in the kitchen but, I am trying to use less and less of it all the time. How about a video on plastic wrap alternatives (rubber/silicon/cloth bowl covers, bee's wax cloth, ect....). More ECO FRIENDLY options😉. Thanks
@garystrankman38414 жыл бұрын
But set of plastic bowls with lids they last forever and are reusable......but even that is not acceptable to the eco freaks it's either their way or no way!

Notice: A top tier volume supermarket, based out of Cinn, OH uses their unknown wrap on craft cheeses; they all had an off-taste of petro chemicals that leached into cheeses they cut and wrap with. I had to cut 1/8" -1/5" off sides to get the real untainted cheese; such waste of ones $$ to do this. Be aware. Test for yourselves. One here will inform them of this; see what happens. If there is no adjustment for the consumer, will drop the supermarket getting craft cheese.

Interesting, I routinely pick up craft cheeses at a Plains regional chain owned by the unnamed supermarket company. I expect store practices are the same, so the regional chain is most likely using the unknown wrap as well. In my experience, I have not noticed any off-taste in general nor petro-chemical taste in particular to the wrapped cheeses I have eaten. Perhaps the off flavor you are finding is coming from something else?

I am clinging to the hope of your next vlog, Graham... It's "stretching" the limits of my patience and sanity, lol! Haha! You deserved that one, ... 🙃 😅 Have you had a chance to watch Chef Hiroyuki Terada do the Guinness Book of World Records cutting carrots blindfolded or the one w GR yet? Also, google his vid... something about cucumber snake? Slicing techniques. He is amazing. As a co-foodie to the bone, I'm certain that you'll enjoy it/his vids. Stay safe, hug your beautiful bride and scratch your furry 4-legged kitchen assistant for me, ok? 👍 🙏❤🙏 👍
