Moral of the story: buy from the people that researched and invented the design, not the ones that copied it over merely adequately. As a bonus: you support further improvements from those that are fascinated enough with their product or industry to try and make breakthrough changes. This does not apply to coffee machines only.

I love this channel and I love this little lady. I've bought so many of her recommended products and have been happy with every one...the thermapen, the Technivorm Moccamaster, etc etc. I'm a sucker for craftsmanship, quality and performance and appreciate this group putting the top products through their paces to see which rise to the top. Thank you as always

I bought a Moccamaster when this video came out. It's still going strong and makes way better coffee than other coffee makers. Seriously worth $300.

If you pack a thermos of your homemade coffee to work you can make back that $300 simply by avoiding buying a $3 cup of Starbucks 100 times. 3x100 = $300. You probably made your money back inside of the year.

Best value in coffee maker world -- go to Goodwill or Salvation Army and buy a used 'moka pot', Italian style stove top coffee maker (also used for 'Cuban Coffee'). Price: $3.00. Results (after learning how to use the thing): best coffee I've ever had (my only goal was coffee that was drinkable without adding cream or sugar -- success!). Use the rest of the money in your coffee budget for a decent grinder (also can sourced from GW or SA, with some luck) and FRESH COFFEE BEANS. NOTE: If you just can't stand the thought of owning a used moka pot (yours will also be 'used' after the very first use, LMAO), you can buy a new Bialetti """6 cup""" for a very affordable price, also. Be aware that a '6 cup' moka pot makes about 1 American mug of strong coffee (which you can dilute after brewing, if you don't like strong coffeee).

My Bun single serve machine is fantastic! Had it for at least a year and love it. It can use loose grounds, K-Cups, tea bags, or just hot water (comes with four canisters). It also comes with a great user manual (hard copy!) and I can buy replacement parts from Bun. I never looked back once I tried the Bun single serve. Only about $125.

I make the coffee for my church; meaning, my amounts go pretty much through the roof. But I get complements on the coffee almost every week, because: ~I use a mixture of French Roast and SAM'S CLUB Dark Roast -- Ratio of 1::2 (SAM'S CLUB is the major amount) ~I grind the coffee to a TURKISH grind -- the consistency of Face Powder ~My ratio of coffee to water is 3.2 cups coffee to 30 "cups" of water ~My secret ingredient is 2 rounded TBSP of powdered Baker's Cacao for each batch of coffee. * * I use a WEST BEND 35-cup brewer, and a paper filter inside the Grounds basket, to keep things a little neater on clean-up. There have been occasions where, due to a large crowd, I have had to transfer as much as 3 LITERS of coffee to an "Air Pot", to accommodate the demand while brewing a new batch. Inevitably, I see very little waste when clean-up time arrives. Just a thought and a comment. My thinking is that the GRIND of the coffee makes a huge difference in the taste, and I am sure that you will agree. Thank you for your time -- and a GREAT Video on drip makers!!

Such a beautiful machine! Timeless classic. Having said this, really impressed by the 8 cup OXO. cost half the price, has lot of neat features. Would I sell my 741 for it? nope, but if I was in the market now and wasn't a fan of Technavorm, I'd give the OXO a very hard look. Great vid. Thanks!

The brew basket and permanent filter come out for easy cleaning , they are mounted in a pull out tray which is also utilized for filling with water. With the Moccamster, stirring the grounds while in the filter basket makes a noticeable difference in flavor. I was finding this coffee harsh no matter the grind and found the shower head was essentially pounding a tunnel into the grounds in the same place, over-extracting that area and leaving the rest untouched. I now start the brewer with the carafe out and let the filter basket fill up with enough water to just stir a slurry, no more, then slide in the carafe. Much better flavor. The Moccamaster gets the time and temperature perfect, but you still need to get the grind right for best flavor, and this stirring tip to fully wet the grounds is pretty much essential, I found.

Last year I started to research so called smart brewers. I needed to free up time in the mornings. Looked at some of these very expensive options. Settled on the Bonavita 8 cup with glass carafe. We never leave coffee on the hot plate. Using a Baratza Encore and after dialing in Organic beans from ALDI we're loving this machine as much an our pour over. The best thing is it only cost $83.

I just purchased the Technivorm less than hour ago. I really did not want spend this much money on a coffee maker. My last decent machine I bought awhile ago was a Capresso, I got more than half off. More recently I've had to replace my coffee maker at least every year. I am not hard on these machines. If the Technivorm makes a great cup of coffee and last the 5 years is guaranteed to last then it's well worth $300. There is nothing worse than getting up in the morning and finding your coffee machine has quit. Your post gives me encourage, I am happy to see you've had yours for seven and it's still working well.

We are returning the Bonavita due to a design flaw. The coffee is good but I don't think it's all that hot. The real issue is the stainless carafe. About an eighth of a cup of coffee gets trapped in it every time I brew. I have to place the lid on the carafe to pour my coffee and it takes forever to fill my cup with coffee. If I keep the lid off, it drools down the side of the carafe and spills all over the counter. When I wash it out, I have the same issue with the rinse water. About an eighth of a cup is left in the carafe even if I turn it upside down. I have to shake it vigorously to get more of the water out and even then I must sop up the remainder with a kitchen towel. That just should not be. We are trading it in for a Technivorm. I am also extremely impressed with Tchnivorm's warranty. A one year warranty says, "I'm gonna die and early death." A five year warranty says, "My manufacturer believes in me."

I own the Bonavita 5 cup, brews 30 oz. I brew 15 oz with 3 tbsp of fresh ground coffee. It makes the best coffee I have ever had. I started diabetes meds last year and I could not drink Keurig made coffee, Dunkin Donuts and I owned Industrial type KitchenAid which made pretty good coffee but I had to make more than I could drink to get a good cup. This coffee pot is perfect for someone who only wants one or two cups of coffee. You did not mention it has pre infusion and that I believe made the difference in the coffee. To me the Keurig which I used to love tasted bitter and I could no longer drink it. I use it only now if company prefer is it. I thought I would mention the five cup oh, I got it on Wayfair.com in the $65 range. All other websites were in the $120 range

I don't want small appliances to last longer than 2 yrs. Cuz I really need an excuse to buy new ones. Because technology improves so quick, by the time that Moccamaster breaks down tech prob improved so much that coffee machine can cook u breakfast or fly or something. Like my Dyson V6 vacuum, bought it when it first came out, it still works, but the new V10 has much better look and suction, but i don't feel right to buy a new one without the old one breaks down. LOL I know i'm prob not the majority of people who thinks this way, but yea, i want it to break within 2-3 yrs.

Well, I'm about halfway between the two of you regarding expected lifespan vs. price. For small appliances I want more than two years but not a lifetime either. While quality is wonderful, I personally don't need a Le Creuset $400 Dutch Oven to cook in or a $25,000 Swiss watch to tell time.

We have the Technivorm Moccamaster and it does indeed make phenomenal coffee. We have only two complaints about it; the electrical cord is very thick and stiff and therefore it is difficult to bend and store behind the machine. The plug is also very long and protrudes about two inches from the wall. The next complaint is the thermal carafe does not keep the coffee hot for very long. I wish it was better insulated like my Yeti coffee mug.

The last time I saw this clip I ordered the Moccamaster on the rush. When I pulled it out of the box, I was puzzled. It came out in pieces! I actually had to construct the coffeemaker on the counter. Eagerly I stacked, and pushed, and piled the pieces together and added the grounds and water. Then every day, the same process. Worse, it was easy to knock things out of alignment which caused a scary mess since you must keep this thing clean. Sadly, it was a great cup of coffee that had to be passed over. Thank God Amazon has a return policy.

I use the Moccamaster one-cup model. It is not easy to find at stores. I however was able to find it at a Williams Sonoma outlet store, and it’s less expensive there than online at the moccamaster website. It brews outstanding coffee, one cup at a time. And frankly, I only need one cup. It costs the same as a ‘kerug’, but the taste is far superior. Kerug makes a good cup of coffee, and very convenient. But if you want a very good cup of coffee, you gotta get something else. The one-cup moccamaster takes about 4 minutes to brew a cup of coffee, which means you’re getting a lot more flavor out of your beans than the Kerug. It’s built like an industrial machine, and I have been using it just about daily for two years, without any hiccups.

I get excellent coffee from a $14.00 Sylvania 12 cup drip machine. It has a large shower head which thoroughly saturates the coffee grounds, and the brewing temperature (measured as the coffee flowed out of the basket before entering the carafe) is 197 degrees (actual brewing temperature inside the basket would, likely be slightly higher.) At the time of purchase (9 years ago) it only came in basic white color, and only had an on/off button. I don't know if this machine is still available. A quick search on the web showed no results. I use filtered water, and good quality beans, ground daily just before brewing.

Just a tip from someone who is a coffee machine collector. The Technivorm is amazing but dont let people move it or bump it. the water Reservoir is internal and cracks easy. The repair is $99 plus shipping to Technivorm. The Ninja is great but they have issues in which the clean button says to clean when its already been descaled. The REDLINE coffee maker is a poor mans version of the Technivorm and that thing rocks.I also really like the taste of the Kitchen Aid electric siphon coffee maker and guests love the show. Im not a know it all just a guy that collects these as a hobby and wanted to share.

Hi there, saw your comment and thought I'd see if you have any thoughts on the Braun Brew Sense machine? We just bought an Oxo 8-Cup machine and I don't like it. I detest the insulated carafe, as we are not a whole-pot household. We are replacing my much-loved Cuisinart Brew Central, and it was important to my husband (not so much me) to have "the correct" brewing temperature. We're thinking about returning (or donating) the Oxo, but man, that's an expensive mistake!

@@jennifers2555 Sounds like the Ninja would be perfect for you. Meets the scaa standards and does a multitude of quantities of sizes. Braun isn't a top notch coffee maker.I would buy the oxo from you for a decent price.

@@1lefty123 Really appreciate this feedback! And it's tempting to sell this machine... it does make *really* good coffee, but the idea of a coffee maker without a hotplate is absurd. And we've really wasted a lot of water pre-heating insulated mugs/the carafe trying to keep a small amount of coffee warm. If I can convince my husband to try the Ninja, I would totally hit you up to buy this machine, I absolutely hate the idea of just sending it to ewaste.

An updated version would be nice. I cannot believe they recommended Bonavita - they have amazing customer service, but be prepared if you buy from them. I have had two different models and had about five or six replacements because of the exact same issue for each. After around six months it will stop brewing with about a third of the water leftover, at this point you have around two may three weeks before it dies completely. As I mentioned their customer service is amazing with the replacements but I wish they would actually make a unit that actually works for more than six months!

Try the OXO 8 cup with stainless steel carafe. SCA approved and around the same price as the Bonavita. Sturdy as hell and has some extra features, like single cup serve and de-scaling indicator. Another excellent choice is Cafe Specialty Drip, also SCA approved and around $150 with tons of features.

I had a Bunn for a few years and the stainless tank sprung a leak. I have used a MR Coffee for the past two years and it does a great job for less than $20.00. I also use Folgers breakfast blend. Works for me.

I have a Black & Decker 10 cup coffee maker however the increments are for, I believe, 6 oz. servings which I think is rather small especially for the mornings and I have yet to see most people going around with small cups of coffee these days. My morning coffee is a large.

Is there any chart to the timings for the brew based on batch size? I find i have to grind a lot more coarse for 1 liter versus 500ml not many seem to mention this information and I have wasted a lot of coffee messing with the grind size.

Hi, Can you redo this review to include the Breville Precision Brewer? I've seen other channels rate it highly and I'd like to see your take on it, especially in comparison to other coffee makers that has come out since this video. Thanks!

I bought a $5 thrift shop coffee machine that probably at some point costed like $100. It makes really good coffee and pretty much meets the criteria for them. It doesn't make shitty weak Mr coffee or keurig coffee but it makes a full flavor thing. I also like the design because the whole thing can be disassembled. They even made it so you can disassemble the spout. So you don't have crappy random grounds everywhere.. It's a krups something from the 1990 or 1980 ish.

Can anyone tell me if the rocker switch (on/off switch) on the Moccamaeter is a momentary switch? Specifically, if I switch the machine to the “on” position, and disconnect it from it’s power source, will the machine begin to brew upon reconnecting to the power source, or does the rocker switch need to be re-engaged when the machine is plugged in in order to begin brewing. The former would enable one to use the machine in conjunction with a wall timer or smart plug to schedule brewing ahead of time.

Is my conclusion accurate. I have a Ninja makes good coffee however, the steam that comes out he top is so intense that it is wrecking my upper cabinet. No choice but to leave machine where it is. So it has to go. These machines that have copper core eliminate the steam as the are internal, is this correct? Or at best are hey side vented? THX

The link you provided for "Best Buy" maker shows the Bonavita BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker with Glass Carafe, instead of the one in the video. This BV1800 is $400.00 def not a better buy than the winner of the video. lol I did thoroughly enjoy this video.

After brewing with a Chemex for years, I grew tired of the lengthy process in the morning. I wanted a fully programmable coffee maker with a burr grinder included. I decided on the Breville Grind & Control and am very happy with my purchase. It took me a while to dial it in, but I'm very happy with the end product. These folks are obviously great at testing the operations of appliances and how closely they meet prescribed standards (i.e. brew temp), but they aren't coffee experts by any stretch.
