I understand WHY this scene was left out. It was TOO HONEST. The focus was taken off Greene, and placed on Corday. Some viewers might have thought it selfish considering Mark was the guy in the dirt. But the business dealings by a spouse after a funeral is rarely shown. Benton comes through for his friend Elizabeth by LISTENING with a supportive hug and forehead kiss. Great acting by Kingston. *Dying is hard, but living without someone who has affected a huge part of your everyday life is harder.*

Two shows that were flat-out great when it came to dealing honestly with death were one that probably isn't a surprise (SCRUBS) and one that people are very surprised by when I mention it (BEVERLY HILLS 90210). They both understood well what the showrunners and actors did in this story: the pain and tragedy of death is only beginning when friends and family say goodbye to the departed. I get why they didn't show this scene on air but I'm so glad it can be seen at all.

My husband, Tim died 25 years ago and I can honestly say that I feel like he's still with me and in an upbeat way. Some will disagree but I have experienced how it's possible to reach that golden "acceptance" stage where you miss your loved one WITHOUT mind numbing sadness, just peaceful gratitude for the time you were blessed to have that person in your life. The song, "If I Never Knew You," from Disney's Pocahontas comes to mind. I also think about the moment after my death, perhaps even before, looking into Tim's beautiful face and whispering a la Avatar, "I see you!" and hear him say right back, "I see you! Are you ready to come home?" And not even answering, I fly into his embrace. Then he wordlessly carries me to our mansion in the sky.

This is top tv writing, they could have had Eriq La Salle spit out some Hallmark quotes and cliches to sooth her, but instead he just lets Elizabeth get what she had to say off her chest and you could tell it brought her some relief. Deleted scene or not, this is what made this show top of the pile for so long.

The writers KNEW these characters intimately and this scene shows it. Jerry giving a 'namaste' style greeting, others giving a hug, but Benton quietly listening and letting Corday vent her frustration, anger, and confusion. It is the perfect nod to their history and to the nature of both characters. It's a shame this was deleted, it's a well written and acted scene.

I was angry that he died, shocked that he went so fast, and sad that our daughter will never evet get to know who her daddy was and what a wonderful man he was. And everybody who knew him asked how I was doing and said ever need anything let us know. "Take as much time as you need, there's no hurry" ... There's so much more to that phrase than the words it contains. Robert knows that it could take a very long time for her to recover. He even knows there's a chance that going back to County would be too much for her and, therefore, she may never return and he'll lose her forever. Still, he says those words to her, because he loves her, he says he'd rather lose her than see her suffering. Saddest Cordano moment ever! ♥ :(

This scene reminds me of a story one of my professors in college told us as a class about grief. She said “A long time ago, my best friend died. She had breast cancer, and by the time they found it, there was very little they could do. She spent about a year slowly dying, and the entire time, it never felt real to me. And afterwards, I spent years, still not understanding what had happened and why I couldn’t accept it. And it took a long time for me to realize that I couldn’t let go, because I was angry at her for dying. After all this time, I was angry at her for leaving. Which is the most irrational and rational feeling I think I’ve ever had.”

This is a great scene, but I understand why they left it out. It essentially ruins the pacing of the final stretch of the episode. To go from the moving montage of Greene's last moments, directly into the funeral and seeing the cast's reactions to Green's death, to the final moments of Rachel releasing the balloon into the morning sky is just powerful stuff. Kingston's performance here is amazing, but it's ultimately unnecessary. We get all this from her reaction at Mark's funeral. And it ultimately takes the focus off of Mark's last moments and onto her, which undermines the focus of the episode. Essentially Mark's last act was saving his daughter Rachel, and the final visual symbolizes that. This scene, while well acted and performed, would have undercut that by drawing it out.

This is the last epi I watched during the original run. Mark was my favorite character, and once he was gone, I lost interest. I've since watched the entire series a couple of times.

Really Enjoyed watching this Programme. Was so to lifelike. The Stories were great. I was working as a volunteer in the Ambulance Service at the time. Was Sad at this time. I have to agree with alot of other comments here, that the programme went downhill after this. Also George Clooney's character - Dr should have come to the funeral along with Carol the nurse.

Just one question, since RS moved counter to the rest of us in time, was this before or after her time with The Doctor? Or is it all the same time? Or has it not yet happened in the past? Or already happened in the future? It will be so confusing, when it all happened.

She just did not know what to say. Benton was Elizabeth’s best friend. She was trying to give space because she knew that the only person who could really offer her comfort was Benton. And she did look sympathetic, in concern with Benton when Elizabeth went to get into the limo.
