Honestly, these long takes must take SO much time and effort from all involved! It's breathtaking direction. Every single person has a purpose and a story...you don't see any wandering/aimless actors/extras. Stunning show. I can understand why it was so successful in the 90s. I feel like watching it from the beginning!

The one interesting thing about ER was Greene was very much hands on with any new students while Weaver tended to give them paperwork or just had them take a tour of the ER via tape, which we saw as Lucy was being shown around. I don't remember the episode, but maybe it could be added here, is where Greene has a bunch of students perform things on patients while they tour the ER. Meanwhile Weaver just gives them paperwork or a recording I think. At the end of the episode Greene's students all decide to join while Weaver's didn't. I remember the look on Weaver's face after she realizes she wasn't that great of a teacher.
@mtk529834 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t that she realized that she wasn’t a great teacher. Dr. Anspaugh offered Dr. Greene tenure on the spot and Dr. Weaver was always angling to force Dr. Greene out.
@drmayeda19304 жыл бұрын
I think the highlight for weaver's patients was following a urine sample. Mark's students handled a trauma case. Mark was more of a people person.
@dentatusdentatus15924 жыл бұрын
But Weaver had a knack for publishing and funding, which seems to matter more in tenure track positions.

@@dentatusdentatus1592 Yes and no. If she were in another department, where publishing and funding mattered more, she'd have gotten tenure by year 10, guaranteed. Since she's just floating around the ER and OR, she is just a well experienced surgeon, the hospital can find plenty of those who wouldn't demand tenure like a bratty child.

Obviously, they didn't plan it this way, but there's something kind of ominous about Lucy seeing a death in her first day at the ER.

considering how she ended up, it seems like a creepy foreshadowing of her fate. Then again, it is ER, everyone is thrown in the fire as soon as they hit that door. It happened to Abby too.

One of my favourite episodes and probably one of the best ones ! I love it that it's all through Lucy's point of view only, making the spectator feel like he's more acquainted with the ER work environment than Lucy is. A great episode ! :-) PS - I love Lucy's character and I really wish they had kept her on the show for a longer time (I prefer Lucy over Neela).

My Mom worked in an ER in a Chicago hospital. It was a usually pretty calm except on Friday nights, it could get pretty insane with gunshot victims, OD's, traffic accidents, beating victims and then your usual run of heart attacks, strokes, household accidents, various illnesses. The staff, residents and Med students worked long hours and were borderline exhausted most of the time.

While many find it odd for season five to start like this, this was also done as a way to have people who wanted to watch but couldn't catch up. Back there there was no DVD box sets let alone streaming, so this episode by my best guess was to have the new viewer introduced to the world of the show. Granted they'll miss some nods from the seasons before but along with being a new way to open a season it was done to have more who wanted to watch er that never before get in as smooth as possible.

She was literally the only easily relatable character, how? When your young studying to be someone in life and you get the opportunity to see how the professionals do it but then you realize this isn’t highschool where you just study, it’s the real world and the world is cruel, she was belittled by carter in someways, faced a lot of stress and disappointments. She died young with what could’ve been a bright future in the medical field. She died doing what she loved. Aside from Dr. Kovac this was an admirable character again easily relatable
@RenegadeShepTheSpacer11 ай бұрын
Her youth doesn't make her the only easily relatable character in the show. Most of them are relatable in one way or another, which is why the show itself has survived the test of time. Greene had a lot of family trouble, Carol had mental health struggles, Doug had issues with authority, Carter struggled to fit in at first, Weaver struggled as a woman and later a gay one, etc. Everyone was relatable to someone.
@PlumbPitiful11 ай бұрын
By his own admission Noah treated Kellie the same way Carter treated Lucy at first, and he still feels bad about it. Alot of it was jealousy that after 5 years of blood sweat and tears to make ER the best show on TV here comes a new cast member who gets an entire episode just about her!

I wonder if the writers had her outcome planned from the start. If you rewatch this episode and intro scene in particular is foreshadows a lot. The fact Dr Carter is unveiled nearly like a dead body covered is eerie the last time we see Lucy Dr Weaver is pulling the sheet up over her. There will never be another show like ER.
