Fond memories of the year we lived in Tuebingen (1971), with many trips to the Schwarzwald. We loved the trains, rode them all over southern Germany. Outstading video, angles, composition. A lot of fun. The scene of the two trains coming out of the tunnel across the bridge: marvelous. I think I will make a screen save for screen saver out of that one.

I may not speak any German, but these are wonderful locomotives; I enjoy how robust and reliable they still are. Not to mention how fantastic they look pulling those passenger coaches with such incredible ease! Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos with us all.

One other note. When we were living in Germany forty years ago some steam engines were still in active service. I rode commuter train into Tuebingen from Dusslingen every day, and saw them often.

Yes it is in Germany. These special trains for the TV event "Eisenbahnromantik" run on a normal railroad line with historic steam engines. In many european countries railroad fanclubs can rent a railroad line (a slot) to run their material.

One train was hauled by two BR 01 (Pacifics, 4-6-2 in White system or 2'C1' in german system), the other was hauled by a BR 50 (Decapod, 2-10-0 or 1'E).

Normally the drains are kept open for a while, and since the weather looks rather damp in this case a long while, in order to heat the cylinder blocks so as to prevent steam for condensing as soon as it hits the walls of the cylinder block and damages the cylinders.

Is this a tourist railroad or common carrier railroad? In the US almost all railroads with steam are tourist railroads, except some class 1's which operate steam for special runs, like UP and now NS again. This looks like a mainline operation, with fast speeds and even doubleheaded steam, and two steam trains running next to each other. Is this Germany?

To Vorhak3985: I am here to stay! The steam locomotives are great targets for parts which sell handsomely on the black market! The gauge sets are especially good to have for the collectors will pay TOP money in CASH with NO QUESTIONS ASKED! There is so much to be had for those who are financially desperate! All at your finger tips, just for the taking! It would be so delightful to see these machines striped, junked & cut apart!

Why two locomotives? One is more than enough for that train.
@nikanorsoter71235 жыл бұрын
No, it's not because of the steep sections of the Black Forest Railway. On some sections, even a third sliding locomotive has to be used because the express train locomotives were designed for the plane.

Interesse?

Two engines for a short train? Was there a speed req. or a safety aspect in this? Or was that standard for these engines? I could almost imagine a train that size being handled by a 242 or 040?

I guess they were going in mountains, too.
@nikanorsoter71235 жыл бұрын
It is due to the gradients. The Schwarzwaldbahn (Black Forest Railway) was the first mountain railway in the later Germany. Only the Semmering Railway in Austria was built earlier. That was the first standard gauge mountain railway in the world.
