This era was so iconic. I feel like she was in a streak and even with bad liar and fetish , she had a vision. But it makes sense that she had to take a break for her mental health and kidney transplant. I feel like she would be so UNSTOPPABLE now if she didn’t had those complications.

I remember being obsessed with "Perfect", and I still think it's the standout in Revival. It's unfortunate it was a deluxe track, it definitely deserved a spot on the main album. It takes a very different approach to what is normally taken when someone writes about being cheated on. Instead of picking apart the other woman, she worships them. The lyrics are so heartbreaking that she never performed it live.

Revival is her most memorable era and album. It's 8 years old but still sounds fresh while some of the tracks on Rare already sound dated. Her droplet era is her best work along with Revelacion. Hopefully she brings it all for her next album even though she said it's going to be pop and fun.

I stayed streaming Me and My Girls even though no one else was checking for it. So good. I really love this album and Era, she had hit after hit. I remember my super masculine Earth science teacher was addicted to hands to myself and would get caught humming it in class like everyday. It was a fun joke between us all. I miss that era

I’m a huge Selena Gomez fan and have been since Wizards of Waverly Place dropped. I’ve loved her music as far back as her stuff with The Scene. Revival is quite possibly one of my favorite albums from her. Rare was cool but it felt like a quieter, more mature Revival without packing much of a punch. Revival however came out swinging and just didn’t miss with each single release. Me & The Rhythm is actually my favorite track from the album and is STILL on rotation to this day.

The entire era was such a good rollout and also a good way of Selena to show off her more mature and adult side in a way from the Disney image that she had been so attached to for so long.The album to this day years later I still listen to it and I remember when it had came out I was in high school and I felt like alot of teens didn’t really listen to the album or talk about it since it was a different route in terms of what was the popular teen music but I loved the album overall.When she finally spoke out about her lupus I believed her from when the media went crazy that she was entering rehab I just knew it had to be something different but she didn’t want to worry her fans since it’s having to deal with her health

I think this is my all time favorite Selena Gomez album and one of my favorite albums in general. I think the deluxe tracks on the album are in the peak of her discography (alongside all of her droplet era singles) and I wish she continued to follow up on the sound of both the album and her droplets as they fit her voice very well. I think she has a fear of getting negative reception to music nowadays and that’s why she’s settling for… honestly mid music. Single Soon was cute… nothing special. I think songs like Perfect, Bad Liar, and Fetish are perfect for her and her Spanish EP is also really good and pushed outside the box. I wish she would try to go outside the box of what she is comfortable with like she did with all things I just previously mentioned I enjoyed. Rare was honestly cute but not very memorable, I wasn’t grasping to go back to it afterwards. I’m really excited to see where her new album goes though. (Also the original blue Revival cover was STUNNING I don’t know why she pulled it off the shelves.)

Revival was such a pivotal moment in Selena’s career. I agree that it was more suited to her voice although I love all her albums. I do believe the blue shattered glass cover was the original standard cover but later replaced by the B&W cover as that is how it was when it first came out on streaming and CD. (at least here in Australia) Also the standard and deluxe have different versions of the track Rise.

I really love the album! Honestly, no skips at all. It's just a fun record to listen and dance to. Even the ballad (Camouflage) is well written. I prefer the video/solo version of Good For You because of how "intimate" it feels. It suits her voice so much. My personal fav is Me & The Rhythm, and it still holds up as a solid summer anthem (I wish we got a video for it). Also, I low-key think Glory by Britney Spears is a sister album to Revival because of how similar the vibe is (but it's still very Britney).

I took away two points from your era study: a lot of ppl think they’re clowning Selena when they say she can’t sing or she’s not a pop girly - she knew both these things early on and worked with an up & coming songwriting team…it’s true she’s not a traditional pop girly and that’s what makes her special! Secondly it’s really important to look back on the “sexiness” of the era, despite it being pretty tame compared to other stars at the time, it did seem like “a lot” coming from Selena but I never judged her for it, just assumed it was what she needed to do. To hear she regrets making those decisions later on is sad, but I appreciate the honesty - you just don’t get that from pop figures! My favorite moment from this Selena era is simply the ending of “Hands to Myself” because I always picture doing the karaoke version in screamo - imagine just screaming the end GIVE ME YOUR ALL OR NOTHING ELSE over guitars and cymbals 😅😅😅

It's moments like this where I am :/... Bc what type of research was even done here. That's the standard edition of the album (11 tracks, can still be found on Amazon) while the topless one was the one for the deluxe edition. Additionally it is the cover for the revival anniversary box set cd which is still available for purchase on the selena gomez store. The lack of in depth research makes this video a very superficial album/era recap instead of a deep dive analysis. It's still entertaining though.

Me & My Girls is my 2nd favorite song from Revival and while I do agree it doesn't sonically fit, like you said in one of your other videos, not every album has to be completely sonically cohesive. I honestly love the transition from Rise to Me & My Girls. Rise feels like being on a beach with your friends till the sun starts to set, and Me & My Girls feels like getting ready with them and going for a girls night out in the city.

The quote at 12:40 encapsulates my entire perception of Selena Gomez. Who is she?? Every time she releases a body of work thats like “THIS IS ME”, it never hits for me and leaves me still feeling like who are you actually? I get the same vibe with Kylie Jenner. Like they’re great at making it seem like they’re revealing a lot without actually revealing much at all. If this is truly her, she is just too average to be a superstar. This is what has never made sense to me about her fandom. Are you a regular girl, or are you a popstar? Because trying to give both vibes is just not hitting the mark. I think Olivia Rodrigo does a great job of being the “girl next door popstar” in a way that Selena hasnt given since 2011. Idk

It doesn’t take much to figure who Selena is. A lot of Selena’s romances and personal struggles are all out there, so it’s really easy to fit her music into that narrative. It seems your problem with her is more her branding. I don’t really know much about dua lipa but since her second album, i think of glitter and dance music. That doesn’t mean dua as a person is entirely that brand. Even with selena Gomez, minimalism is still a brand. You might not like it, but it’s still something she uses in her music and even makeup business. Also Kylie or the entire kardashians also have a recognizable brand. It works the same way that the pop icons craft a recognizable brand, that doesn’t mean that is who the pop star really is.

I feel that I did not appreciate this era due to the singles that were picked to be on the radio. It made me feel all her songs now were about sex and they weren’t for me. I loved her first three albums because they were different from each other. I also do feel they fit her voice too. I do respect as she grew up and matured in her sound, you can see how she experiments with that like Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Demi Lovoto did with their music. I feel bad, not out of pity, but for everything she had to go through and she is still fighting that. The Wizards of Waverly Pod episode she guest starred on made me realize how sad she was and I never want anyone to feel like that or alone. I do admire the work she is doing to get help and trying to stay who she is. This video is making me rethink this era and wanting to listen to this album because I shouldn’t have judged it based off a few singles.
