What a beautiful aircraft. I laughed at the nimby reference. Decades ago I was a military policeman at CFB Shearwater in Nova Scotia. It's been a military airfield since 1918. They used to have a yearly airshow which granted was a bit noisy, but it only was once a year. Anyways, on one of those weekends I was manning the main desk and took a call about the noise. I wasn't very sympathetic to their moaning at me and took great delight in educating this proto-Karen on the history of the aerodrome before dropping the phone in its cradel. She didn't call back. 😂

Made this trip from Sac Exec to Truckee this same time last year. I wanted to see how a 172 performs with density altitude. Took a CFI along with me. We flew at 10,000. Amazing views and like you experienced, great weather. The departure from rwy 11 was eye opening. Took up a lot of runway to get off the ground and then had to do a circling climb north of the airport for a few minutes to reach 8,000. I would never fly in there during the summer that's for sure.

I enjoy how James vocalizes each segment of pre-flight, takeoff, cruise, landing prep and ball-N-chain procedures. Diane, do you feel the "nerves" when James is puzzled why the ERCO is misbehaving in the mountain air density of Tahoe? Always a JOY to fly with you both.

Hey James, I put my camera mount on the wing the other day, did some touch and goes. Was all prepared to watch my magnificent landings and realized I had not set MODE to movie. Ended up with a million stills. Oh well. But..the camera stayed on the airplane, so that’s a plus.

Maybe I missed it, but it looked like you did not lean your engine for best power before your takeoff. I live in Denver and fly a 77 Grumman Tiger with a normally aspirated O-360 Lycoming. Leaning is a must whenever we fly out of most Colorado airports as many are above 5,000' MSL and DAs can climb well above that, especially in the late spring and summer months. That lack of climb rate will get your attention really quick even on a relatively cool day at high elevation airports. Our home airport KBJC has two main runways that are long... 7000' and 9000' to be exact, and a cross wind runway of 3600'. We use at least 1/3 of the runway on our takeoff roll and a bit more when the DA is up near 8,000". We only use the crosswind runway for takeoff when the DA is below 6000'. If the terrain allowed it, I would have requested a spiral climb to gain sufficient altitude before departing the pattern on that three zero zero heading. And as for that person who called you in, they can go pound sand. After all, they built their home next to an airport. What do they expect? Don't worry about it, we have folks here who do the same and our airport has been here long before there were any urban communities built around it. People just like to complain for the sake of complaining. Here's a KZbin link to a flight my son, wife and myself made a couple of years ago to Laramie, Wyoming in the Tiger. We were departing Laramie to head back to our home base after a late lunch in town. Check out how long the takeoff roll is. After crossing the approach end of the runway, we performed a spiraling climb to get up to altitude so we could cross the ridge line over the foothills of the Rockies as DA was just over 8,500'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ3bq4t8brqjjJI As always, I enjoyed your flight footage. Mountain flying is awesome. Fly safe and fly often!

How did the complainant and the airport know which airplane transgressed the Laws of the Universe in this instance? Transponder signal? ADS-B? Bored homeowner with a pair of binoculars? Or given the area, paid observer (off-hours role of the footman or scullery maid, etc.?)

@adamlauber18084 жыл бұрын
Hey pal, do your research..... the “original airport’ location was just north of the current location in 1933 (where it should still be). The current location was established around 1955 and has exploded into a tower operated, serving the rich and famous who can afford aviation and “lets fly up for the day because I can” airport. A lot of the homes that you call ‘NIMBY’ were there way before the current airport traffic and addition of a tower that cost thousands of dollars to build/operate. The original entry for the base leg of RWY 29 (which used to be RWY 28 until they changed it to 29 to facilitate bigger exec jet type planes) was entering mid-field “at a 90” from the north for left base and departure was “straight out” until you were over I-80. Not anymore... be a good pilot and have some respect for the locals that deal with the constant take off/landings(primarily jets and less GA) that were NEVER this bad. Nice, clean Ercoupe by the way.....
@andrewmcvicker78244 жыл бұрын
Curious, is runway 29 longer than runway 28?
@JamesGood4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the perspective, Adam. I will definitely pay more attention to the NAP next time I visit, which I guess means the polite letters work. I did know about the 1933/1950's airport iterations from the history page on the airport website, so I appreciate there was a difference there. I imagine the airport and tower do bring much needed Googler cash into the area, which must be an upside...
@JamesGood4 жыл бұрын
As Nigel Tufnell said, it’s one longer. This one goes to 29.
@BumbleBee55R4 жыл бұрын
@@JamesGood LOL, That's awesome. I'm guessing that Adam doesn't realize that the change in the runway number has nothing to do with actually moving the runway and everything to do with the change in magnetic North. So, the departure end of Runway 29 has always been in the same place and had nothing to do with the rich/famous and their bigger airplanes. Next time I depart Runway 29, I am going to turn the volume up to 11.
