Why france24 focuses on YRP so much? Yes, they got 6%; but, why they get all the coverage? Isn’t it interesting enough that CHP won the highest share and won cities considered as ‘conservative’? Isn’t it interesting enough that CHP went through a leadership change just a few months ago? Yes, Turkey is a Muslim dominant country; but, not an Islamic state at core. If being not enough Islamic is the problem here; there is no one other than Erdoğan who can play that card the best.

YRP has had an insanely good run for a newly established party. I think that YRP opposes no threat, AND they make AKP lose. I don't support Erbakan but I don't think that he's worse than Erdoğan. They worked very hard to get that 6%, and they didn't cheat as far as I know. Props to them.

Well, if they stick with their own little party instead of making bigger parties like AKP winner with their votes and have a word inside AKP, I believe they'll be more useful and less dangerous for secularity. Unpreferrable but, even AKP itself could become more rational and collaborative for a secular governance if they lose their hardcore islamist voters completely, as they won't have to be poser anymore. Hardcore islamists in Turkey has always been a very small minority and they will keep shrinking as newer generations increasing their immunity to such nonsense, thanks to the age of information.

Missing information: YRP is remake of original Refah Party which was Erdogan'a first party. Erdogan and elite AKP personas started their career in RP. Erdogan claimed that he has changed and then found his AKP. RP is agresively Islamists. Also current YRP leader is son of original RP leader.

As a Secular Turk it was an amazing surprise for us! And this win has nothing to do with kurdish party they refused to form an alliance, in fact they wanted to make Imamoglu lose in Istanbul. The public has spoken :)

To add to the answer given to the last question (what changed since the last summer's general elections): 1. The opposition was actually winning the general elections last summer until the last few weeks, according to most polls and analysts.Then, Erdogan deceived the voters showing a fake video at his rally of the opposition leader with terrorists. He even admitted that it was a fake video later. 2. The general elections' outcome is highly influenced by the votes coming from rural areas where the opposition admits not having enough access to the voters, especially given that the public TV network TRT is used by Erdogan as his own propaganda machine. Also, these voters may not have been experiencing the weight of the economic crisis as much as those in big cities at the time. 3. In the local elections, opposition has some charismatic, young leaders on the table, who were able to convince even right wing voters with their positive messages and the quality of their work in the past years as already mayors of the big cities (despite Erdogan's blatant efforts to slow them down by cutting resources, etc.). 4. Erdogan has a new nemesis YRP, who claims to champion the original values of the party Erdogan's party branched out of 20 or so years ago. They are eating Erdogan's party AKP inside out.

Nah it would backlash. He was pretty mild-mannered in his loss speech yesterday. He said that he respects democracy and people's will, he also said they wouldn't be stubborn against the people's will. If he keeps attacking the opposition, he'll surely lose.
