The Spaetzle that Eric made would be called Knoepfle. The dough is the same, the difference is that Spaetzle are long in shape and Knoepfle are more round and knot-like. The name for Knoepfle comes from the German word "Knopf" which translated into English could mean "button", "knot" or "knob". Spaetzle are a common side dish for a traditional German Christmas eve dinner, so they fit perfectly for a "holiday special" episode 😁
