I saw this tour in Newcastle in the UK. I was 13 and bought a ticket off a tout. Looking back you realise what a privilege it was see Clapton in this period and Phil Collins on drums.

What a terrific period of Clapton's career. Great performing partners to support his solo tours. This is an under-rated period IMO.

I saw them in Denver on this tour, and was completely blown away. Clapton played just about everything you'd expect to hear. I was hoping Phil Collins would have at least sang something, but from what I understood, he was quite content being behind the drums, which was also cool with me.

Of all the concerts of Eric Clapton, this is what I think is perfect, friends seemed to be a tight-knit band .... perfect sound ... perfect accompaniment ... just perfect!

I love this song played live, partly because Eric goes for a relatively aggressive solo.

In the white room with black curtains near the station Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes Dawn light smiles on you leaving, my contentment I will wait in this place Where the sun never shines Wait in this place Where the shadows run from themselves, yeah You said no strings could secure you at the station Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows I walked into such a sad time at the station When I walked out, felt my own need just beginning I wait in the queue Where the train's gone by Lying here with you Where the shadows run from themselves At the party, she was kindless in the hard crowd Consolation for the old wound now forgotten Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes Now she's just saying, goodbye windows, tired starlings Still I will wait in this place Where the sun never shines Wait in this place Where the shadows run from themselves

And I thought his solo on this song was fierce and fiery in the Live Aid version... and then he wrings a few more drops of adrenaline out of that Strat. Unbelievable.

hwgJS he's playing a prototype of the model that ended up being the E.C signature model. It has the gain boost on the volume pot. He also had a grey model which he used on this concert too.
