I did a show opening for Eric in 1991 at the Tampa Bar Performing Arts Center. His manager didn't like our band, and our backline and rigs were four times as large as the Gales Band gear. Eric was 16 at the time, and I went to talk to him - he looked me straight in the eye and said "Ya'll go on ahead and play, I AINT SCARED".....and then after we got up there and did our set, the Eric Gales Band came out and SLAYED us - they had groove, three part harmonies, and great guitar work. Eric taught me a really important lesson that night, and we have been friends ever since....they blew us off the stage so bad it caused me to re-evaluate my whole musical existence......Bobby DeVito

He needs more credit nowadays, its good music that gotta be on number 1, pop music nowadays is soooo bad, is feels like it is written just for fame and money, they dont do it for art anymore or to change something that is happening to the world.

Their debut album is fantastic, and you can tell it was just a very strong beginning. Now, 30 years later, he's still being classified as "UNDERRATED"? What the hell is wrong with music today if a talent like his is underrated?

Saw his first show in Greensboro, NC a couple of weeks ago. Eric Gales is under-rated. One of the best living guitar players PERIOD! This guy kills it. Released hes first album on the Electra label when he was sixteen years old. FANTASTIC!

Eric Gales peakin' = with stacks of Marshalls 'n' full Spanish Gypsy costuming & a GRRREAT band !!!Eric has grown sooo much since then in his music & songwriting BUT he was such a great performer back with this band.

Dude, I just have to say this. Eric Gales, to me, is the best electric guitar player ever. Please don't throw sticks or stones at his comment, this is just my personal view. From then, in '92 to now, (2019) I'ma tell you something. This has always been the work of a virtuoso, a guitar extraordinaire that still alive and even better, in his musical prime. If you can, go check him out. If he's playing in your town, go witness that shiet. He's as bad as they come before they break the mold.

I met the drummer at guitar center first shopping for cymbals...lol We wanted the same cymbal on sale. two months later I met Eric (a few weeks after his birthday) at a club on beale st during a blizzard called ALFREDS. Later I met Eugene the day after at a hotel where my father was staying during a visit. This all was in 1991. That following year I saw them live at the Memphis Folk Festival. Great people and Fantastic musicians.

I walked into some club in Denver in 92 , didnt know this band, never heard of them or Eric. And I could not get drunk doing shot after shot, the energy was so intense and all I wanted to do was jam with them. I'm 63 now and I still have the Faces album I bought that night and they signed , it is still my favorite album to jam to. I know Eric won't remember but he smiled when I said " Someday me and you are gonna have some" I just did a 3 day gig at The Texas Music Ranch in Austin after 9 months of nothing. Come on up Eric , let's have some fun.

that's another cool story. I first met him at the FedX Forum in 2008 where he was warming up to do the national anthem for a Grizzlies basketball game. We were in the basement in his "green" room where he was practicing different versions of it. My son and his friend went upstairs to get some drinks so it was just me and Eric. I was starstruck, mouth agape listening to what all he was playing. So he turns to me and says do you play ? And I did play a little through the years but after hearing him I just shook my head and said no I don't play. I was so afraid he was going to ask me to pick up his other guitar.

It's sad in this country pure talent is sometimes overlooked by a passing fad...in this case an experiment called "grunge" overshadowed this kid's rightful place in rock history...how shameful...luckily he is still making incredible music.
@Diax13243 жыл бұрын
Not an experiment. It was a valid genre that contributed greatly to the musical world. Just because you get stuck on an old genre doesn't mean everyone else is wrong. That's an idiotic way to view things.

@@Brucev7 Hey, Bruce7! Just before the release of "That's What I Am" when Eric was touring (the album CD was released within about a week or so later) I took my girlfriend;'s @ 18-year-old son to see him at House Of Blues in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. There were no more than about 10 people in the room apart from us. I had been aware of him since his first release and this was a sort of resurfacing after he hadn't recorded in a while. Insane that nobody was there,. He did a wonderful show superb songs and guitar wizardry seen from about 10 feet away from the intimate raised stage. His songs of that album are so fine and distinctive ("She Shines" he explained was about his daughter) that one could carry them in mind afterward. He was lean and hard looking, shirt fully open, his Raw Dog chest tattoo displayed. "I'm Raw Dog! Comin' at you straight outta Memphis!" The next time I saw him he was at that point touring with Indigenous, and this time my girlfriend was able to come. It was toward the end of the tour, he had lost his voice and his bass player did most of the singing. Larger hall, The Paradise Music Club in Boston. There was a guitar 'battle' back and forth between him and Indigenous guitarist. Great fun, but not necessarily fair. Awesome show. In October 2019 he appeared in a really nice hall in Dalton, a small town in Western Mass, I was able to get tickets for me, my girlfriend and my 76 year old (but fit!) sister, who loved it.

Henry Myrick Jr. he’s been on my radar since he was sitting in with the house band on the original Arsenio Hall show. I was a teenager and used to stay up to see real guitarists in hands that played actual music on all the late night shows and the guitar players in the house bands. Anyway, I went out and got this cd and many more of his CDs He’s been thru a lot and he’s still slaying that guitar.
