This song was written during a time when Clapton was hopelessly in love with the wife of his friend George Harrison of the Beatles. Every song on that album screams heartache.

I don't know why more reactors don't do songs from this album (besides the great "Layla")....it's a masterpiece of guitar blues & rock. "Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad" really rocks out, also "Tell the Truth", "Anyday" & more!

While Eric Clapton and Duane Allman were recording this album I believe in Miami, Jimi Hendrix died in London, they recorded "Little Wing" written by Hendrix in his memory, on the album "Layla and other Love Songs", must listen such a beautiful song.

These guys are bastard stepchildren of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends that ran away. Bobby Whitlock on B-3 and vocals. Has a KZbin channel and tells great stories as to where these tunes came from. And a lot of the history that was happening then.
@williamhopper7873 Жыл бұрын
If you listen you will hear the voice of Bobby Whitlock. He co-wrote this song with Clapton. Doesn't get enough credit for this album.

Back in the day when the guitarist for the Allman Brothers could record an entire album with Eric Clapton. 🙂 RIP Duane Allman. If you ever get a chance, go visit his grave in my hometown of Macon, Ga. Bassist Berry Oakley is buried next to Duane and now Gregg is buried very close as well.

Eric Clapton had left Blind Faith about a year after leaving Cream. He joined up with Delaney and Bonnie on their tour of the UK and Europe to just be in the band and get back to some roots music. Delaney and Bonnie and Friends toured with Clapton on Guitar and George Harrison also joined up. The band included horn players who were the go to guys for the Stones and a drummer, bass player and keyboard player who were part of the Dominos. They started working on the Layla album and went to see the Allman Brothers in concert. Eric asked Duane Allman if he wanted to sit in on the album. Eric Clapton was madly in love with George Harrison's wife, Patty Boyd, but she wouldn't leave George at the time. The result is one of the best, most heart wrenching double albums ever made. It's definitely in my list of best records ever made.

Once again, I really enjoyed watching you enjoy this song! Lol. I was just watching your reaction on Into the Mystic and you were talking about songs that just gave you that vibe, that feeling, that not many songs give you. This has been my favorite song I think since I was about 8 years old and I'm 54 now. The song gives me the shivers. Between the vocals and the guitar it's just the perfect song. Another one I feel that way about is Tuesday's gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you haven't checked that one out yet its amazing. I'm going to go look for it now. Lol. Rock on.

Derrick and The Dominos formed in the spring of 1970 by Eric Clapton with Bobby Whitlock doing vocals and keys, Carl Radley on bass, Jim Gordon on drums and of course Eric Clapton vocals and guitar. The band were together for only a year from 1970- 71, Duane Allman played slide guitar on all the songs but 3. The album came from Eric Clapton's obsession with his best friend's George Harrison's wife Patty Boyd Derrick is Eric Clapton and Layla with Patty Boyd. The album didn't sell well in 1970 until March 1972 when Layla made the top 10 in the US and the UK, the album was the beginning of Clapton's big break. George Harrison went on tour with Eric Clapton in Dec.1969 as the guitarist for a band called Delaney and Bonnie and that's how he met Patty, Patty and Eric Clapton would meet at Clapton's loft and when he played Layla for her she told him he had to change the names for obvious reasons 😂. Patty Boyd wanted to go to a party but George didn't so she went and Clapton was there, George went and caught them on the balcony, Eric told him he was in love with his wife and George said OK and remained Clapton's friend up to his death. Eric Clapton did end up marring Patty Boyd on May 19, 1970 but like so many others who start with affairs they divorced in 1989. Obviously George Harrison didn't give a shit because he along with, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr played at the reception along with Mick Jagger, Elton John, David Bowie and alot more, Clapton set up a big stage for a obviously huge jam session ( i wish I had all that at my reception) like others the Eric Claptonsaid in an interview that he talked to another musician named Dr John who practiced VooDoo and he gave him a package of straw to help Patty to fall in love with Clapton 😂 😂. On June 3, 1983 Jim Gordon who was misdiagnosed was a schizophrenic but was treated for alcohisum attacked his 72 yr old mother with a hammer then stabbed her with a butcher knife because he said a voice told him to kill her was put in a mental hospital and is still there today. Sorry about the last part I know it's pretty sick. Eric Clapton is absolutely a legend.

This band was cursed. Allman died in a motorcycle accident shortly after the release. Clapton burned out on heroin and didn't put out another album for three years. Another band member OD'd in the late 70s. The drummer went insane, killed his mother, and is now in an insane asylum.
