For what it’s worth, the original composition was prompted by Satie’s exposure to Hungarian, not Greek music (at the world expo) but yeah, I always thought that a rebetiko treatment was necessary ;-)

I don't know of it in a specific TV series. It's one of Erik Satie's most famous pieces so you might have heard it on many occasions. But it is generally known as a piece of piano music.
