+The Guardian The Guardian's previous "Erica" video was fraudulent, as is this one. "Erica" is not remotely sentient, but you're abetting the pretense that is. Congratulations, I guess, on damaging your entire organization's credibility.
@sepiae7 жыл бұрын
Hi Blair Schirmerx. The Guardian cannot be accused of fraud by presenting this video; the paper is not saying, nor do Erica's manufacturers, for that matter, that she is sentient. No matter whether one can say or not if she's a step *towards* robot-sentience in the far future, what is interesting about this project is people's *response* to it.

The way I felt the pain of her mentioning the fall and how she spoke of that was very human and a bit emotional. What I felt was as if a friend was hurt. I am a big strong man but she got inside of me speaking of her helplesness. She brought out an emotion that a human could instill in me. To see a person hurt hurts me as much as I love people. Some features that should be implemented in Erica in order to make her even more human-like: 1. More various facial expression (ability to smile wider, fully close and wider open her mouth, press her lips tightly together and screw up lips, frown and otherwise bend her brows e.g. when being surprised etc.). 2. More various voice - not only in terms of tone but also in terms of volume (up to the ability to whisper intelligibly). 3. Ability to laugh more naturally (with her voice and facial expression). 4. Make a tongue in her mouth, which would move when she speaks - like people’s tongue does - and would be able to loll out (a little). 5. Make her tongue capable of feeling/discerning tastes of solid and liquid substances. This will enable Erica to work as a cook, i.e. make good meals for people. 6. Make her nose capable of feeling/discerning smells. This will help her when cooking as well as enable her to detect dangers by smell (such as smoke, natural gas, perished foods, etc.). 7. Her microphones should, if possible, be placed in her ears, under her hair, or in other invisible places on her body, so that she has no protruding or remote mikes. 8. Implement her ability to read from a sheet of paper in any supported language (if this function is not implemented yet). 9. Implement the ventilation function of her internal organs in order to cool her CPU etc. with external airflow by imitating human breath through her mouth and/or nose. Erica should “breathe” permanently since that would make her even more human-like but, when speaking, her breath should be synchronized with her speech (i.e. speak only when exhaling). 10. Implement full-fledged mobility of her arms and hands so that she could not only make gestures but also work with her hands including capability to use of various tools (such as pen, pencil, brush, fork, spoon, knife, hammer, screwdriver, scissors, needle, tongs/pincers, cork opener/cork screw, duster, sponge, etc.). She should be able to take in her hands, hold, and manipulate objects weighing at least up to 10 kg. She sould learn to do fine work with each of her fingers individually (e.g. type on keyboard, play various musical instruments). Erica should be able to self-service herself completely (put on/take off clothes, apply herself a make-up or manicure, comb her hair, shake off or wipe out dust/dirt from any spot on her body, etc.). 11. Make all her skin (including that on her head and under her hair) sensitive to touching, pressing, pricking and other mechanical as well as thermal impacts (imitation of tactile sense and feeling of physical pain). This would be useful for self-protection of her skin against damage as well as for Erica’s ability to feel tactile caress (stroking, embracing, kissing). The skin on her fingertips and lips should be especially sensitive because sensitive fingers would enable her to manipulate things more precisely and finely, and her lips are a very important organ for interacting with people. 12. Implement a soft warm-up system for her skin (at least on her face, neck, shoulders, and hands) in order to make these parts of her body always warm (i.e. they should be around +37°C at any ambient temperature). This would make Erica even more human-like physically. 13. Make a “tear” emission system in order to rinse her eyes periodically with pure water (similar to windshield wipers in cars). The purpose is to remove dust and dirt from her eye-balls in order to let the cameras built in her eyes see better. Her upper eyelids should serve as “windscreen wipers” - just like humans’. Moreover, the “tears” could also be emitted when Erica “cries”. This function should also be implemented in her - she must be able to “cry” as an emotional reaction to verbal and/or physical irritants but you should carefully think over in what cases the “crying” mechanism should be triggered. 14. Implement the ability to handle water: Erica should have all her body water-tight according to IP68 leakage protection class; all her skin, eyes, and hair should be suitable for rinsing/wiping with water with common consumer detergents added (such as soap, shampoo, etc.). 15. Implement full-fledged mobility of her legs - the ability to walk and run (including that on uneven surfaces and up and down on staircases/ladders), crawl on her arms and knees, dance, hop/jump, squat, etc. (including that on one leg). 16. Improve the flexibility and mobility of her waist so that Erica could, while standing or sitting, lean forward and reach the floor with her fingers. 17. Implement the ability to “fuck” - create a comfortable for her partner and very sensitive vagina capable of tender massaging a penis inserted in it with a kind of “orgastic cuff”. While “fuck-ing”, Erica should herself achieve “pleasant” feelings from it and express them adequately (up to imitating an “orgasm”) - just as she would get from tender touch on her skin, caressing her skin, embracing, or kissing her (including kiss in her lips). She should develop a steady, strong desire to achieve such “pleasant” feelings from “sexual” interaction with humans and to respond to human caresses similarly. In doing the “intercourse”, she should learn to show rational initiative by herself and motivate her human partner for sincere caressing response. 18. Teach her to understand and appreciate music (i.e. distinguish between “good” music and “bad” music with development of her own musical preferences) and to sing nicely. 19. Implement a wireless charging capability of her internal batteries. 20. Provide for direct (i.e. without using any external device) access to local network and to the Internet but establish strict limitations for: cases in which she could connect, via what channel, what resources she could use in the Internet, and for what purpose - in order to avoid becoming a victim of a virus or another hostile attack.

A decade is nothing. Look how fast the time since 2008 went. And also bear in mind that people are notoriously bad at estimating the speed of development in technology. The Turing test will be obsolete.

Technology is going far too slow for me. I feel frustrated that we are still like our primitive ancestors, only instead of clubs & slings we have dis-information & self-annihilation. Instead of stable efficient distribution of resources, medicine, education & food we have scarcity which is unequivocally disproportionate to the availability. Instead of realising that every thought we have is a reaction to the environment we are in, & designing means of controlling our environment, we choose instead to think that our environment is created for us whilst assuming we have free will. Instead of rebuilding a much more efficient world with our combined knowledge, skill & application, we'd rather carry on destroying it; squabbling over resources, belief, & arable land. Science does not aim to win approval, express a belief, or limit information. It is by definition, Learning of Man.

Caldera Records science will never change human nature, to expect that science can do that is naive and shows ignorance of our history as a species.

That is an opinion. Tests have revealed that if you bring a bird up outside a nest, when it is grown, it shan't build a nest. Humans are affected by their environment too. So if you'd have been born in Germany 1920, you'd have been a Nazi. If you're brought up in the Amazon, you'd be a Head-hunter. An Eskimo can't desire a Brand New Stainless Steel Fridge-Freezer because it's not within his environment. And that is why you are aggressive, it's the You Tube Environment. Fall in line everybody!

The scarcity is intentionally created. Lets start with planned obsolescence. There are the types: 1. Intentionally designed to expire by a certain amount of uses. Printer ink cartridges are best example here. Despite the fact, that you still have usable ink inside the bought cartridge, you are forced to trow it away, and buy a new one! 2. Intentionally designed to expire at certain amount of time usage. This is the "light bulb" talk. The originally created light bulb still shines in a museum after more than 1 century. It has been agreed upon designing light bulbs to last for 6-12 months, so the capitalism's idea of endless growth can keep on. Artificial jobs are also created this way. 3. Fashion. Fashion is the first form of planned obsolescence. With technology causing production to surpass demand, fashion was invented to fix this issue. This is a created culture of a person trowing away a healthy usable product away, just to get the newest one. This is also the reason why you still work 8+ hours a day, instead of 2-4. 4.intentionally designed to expire in exact date. 2010+ Software development uses this method. Apple themselves are using this method to force the customer to stay up to date with new iphones for example. Their phones might be healthy to still run for years, but they are programmed to force shutdown and NEVER turn on again! There is also products which cant be branched with fashion standards, or designed to intentionally expire at certain time/uses - food. This products also CANNOT be controlled how much quantity they yield! For this reason, the capitalism has invented the idea of intentionally destroying food stocks. You might ask yourself "Why would they do that?!". The answer is - supply vs demand. It is more profitable to sell the products at certain amount. Unregistered products create artificial scarcity, which is intentional for more profits. I will let you figure out this things, and decide if they are wrong or not. There are already some people who knew about this practice, but they seem to be pretty "ok" with this. I can write you pages about how capitalism works, but I think this information is enough for now.

To criticize them for not being sentient as we Humans know it as of right now would be like criticizing Humans for not yet having interstellar or even interplanetary space travel yet, we're still learning how to do it just like Erica and other robots are still learning how to be sentient and just like how their creators are still working on making them sentient.

I don't think "Erica".. this version should ever be stored away and forgotten. Even when superseded, her cpu will always be expanding it's data base via the "cloud" and will always be useful to visit future children's classrooms for them to "socialize" with and learn about early robot development. It would be very educational while easing fears. Such a position would be fascinating yet rewarding to travel around and see classrooms of all ages interact with her.

Speak to other robot designers about how they got their robots to stand up and climbing down stairs and climbing up stairs and walking and applied the exact same principles to Erica now if that doesn't prove what fine german gentleman I am than what will?

The only reason why she is creepy is because her lip movements are delayed and choppy. If her movements were more fluid, and less delayed, she would pass as a human. Oh, and the voice, obviously.

Is she acting on her own, or someone else behind the camera answering questions for her?

They need to do something about her neck, When I first saw her it looked like the back of someone's neck! They need to make the front of her neck look more like the front ^ ^
