with this video, i realize i have been trying to control my exhale when singing via the throat for my entire life. i have never understood how to properly achieve a resonant head voice, as you demonstrate here in your Whitney _"How will I know?"_ snippet. i may not to be able to instantly achieve good chord closure/adduction and breath control from my sides and back (and not throat) today, but at least i know what now to aim for in the days ahead. holding the breath back - the yang - in the body as opposed to the throat (and getting better vocal fold closure as a result) is my new goal.

Can someone please help me? I’m new to singing and whenever I sing for about a minute my throat muscles start to hurt and I don’t know why!! Please help
@monpseudoestcool72484 жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't know if you still have this problem, but I think it might be because you're relying on your throat muscles too much while singing when you should rely on your belly/diaphragm muscles. I'm not a professional singer, nor am I a vocal coach, which is why I suggest you to watch Eric's "advanced singing techniques" videos which helped me a lot. I also think that the more you will train, the more muscles that can help you support the sound you will develop, and the more stamina you will have !

You are not just a singing teacher. You are THE ONE for me. :) And it's a gift to practice with you one and one. I can just suggest him to anyone. I've never thought that I will reach my milestones, but by Eric I could do it, so he's incredible.

It's odd...you talked about building power by singing quietly. I sing to myself under the blankets when I can't sleep. You talk about singing with the muscles in your ribs and lats....I do a form of exercise that stretches and strengthens those areas. There is a delicious synchronicity at work here....but I don't know what to do with it. I'm just enjoying your lessons and playing with my voice. My crush on you is healthy...and safe. I tend to imitate singers when I listen to their song, so it's unhealthy for me to listen to Harry Styles for example, because my head automatically think it's chest dominate, gotta use lots of chest. But then when I try to imitate you, I immediately get my flow back.

Eric, I wanna thank you because I have been improving since I am watching your videos! You are a man! As far as I know, there are 2 main vocal breathing techniques: 1. Belly singing (inhale mainly to belly, classical vocal coaches often speak and teach this way, the oldschool way) 2. Diaphragm singing (when you inhale, breath to side ribs as you showed in this video ) As far as I got, this video is about 2 way, that is more modern. Can you clarify this theme please, because there is no such a topic that opens up this sides. Iam learning to breath and sing again, because Ive learned old way, this answer would be useful for many people. And your old videos "advanced breathing" p.1, also other videos "how to sing from diaphargm " (where you say to breath to your balls), are not the same idea as you explained here? The techniques are totally different, I am so confused, how to practice and how to sing, from where lets say. Thank you in advance! I would be very grateful!
@ericarceneaux4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan! All breathing is diaphragmatic; it is the only way in which a human can breathe, as the diaphragm is our primary muscle of respiration. Because we do not have proprioceptive nerves in the diaphragm, we cannot feel it directly. So, we are made aware of its action by the movement of the muscles surrounding it. In the AApproach method, we often start singers off with awareness of their belly first, for no other reason than that it’s often the easiest for them to feel and to see move (versus the typical high constricted inhale). As we get more advanced (which I feel many of my viewers are after so many years), we integrate more and more of the respiratory-posture muscles (lats, transversus, posterior chain, etc). We refer to this as the “process of awareness”. Gradually, we attempt to awaken and strengthen denser-but increasingly important-muscles: back muscles, pelvic floor, and rib cage/intercostals for example. Ultimately, even though the lungs reside relatively high in the torso, we’re aiming for the feeling of a full-body inhale-grounded in the pelvis as the back lengthens and rib cage opens. Because we eventually get so much more length in the torso and expansion in the rib cage (and activation of the transverse abdominis), the belly naturally gets drawn inward and upward; it’s not contrived or contradictory. It is merely a natural result of the respiratory system being utilized more completely and efficiently. Hope that clarifies things. I break all of this down step-by-step in my “Breathing Bootcamp for Singers” video series, available on my site 🙂

Eric, you talk about syncing the breath, breathing all the way from down in the pelvic area. This all sounds like the same things I’m hearing through my yoga classes. So my question is...”is this the same type of breathing “? & will yoga help to strengthen your diaphragm? Just curious 🤨 😊

Eric I’m a 24 year old singer who has been singing ever since my early teens. I’ve been able to accomplish great agility but unfortunately in the recent years I’ve became a smoker. I know this is bad in more than one ways but I’ve noticed especially my voice has suffered. My voice isn’t crisp like it used to be and it crackles when I try to hit the high notes. Is there any way I’ll be able to adapt and my voice can “readjust” so to speak, in order to sing the way I used to? I know I need to quit but I just can’t see myself doing that anytime soon ;(

Hi, Eric! I just finished your video for how you learned to sing 1 ep. and I want to ask you something. I ve watched document movie about vocal cords physiologicaly. So best singers when they sing their cords squeeze soo tiny and there is little hole straight line for air flow. As strong cords you have as better singer you will be so my question is: How you can strength them. They are muscles who are not outside like biceps, abdominals, pectorals (I m sportist and I m interested of vocal science ) they are inside people dont have closed connection for training with weight or something so how you can make them strong or lunges strong. Hard pushing air exhale or keeping breathe for long time (swimmers will be singers at this point :D). I think my question is interesting
@happygift94784 жыл бұрын
I really have a problem with my voice I think have injured my vocal cord because it's disturbing me I can't really control my voice to be stable
