honestly NIppard is a good guy, Eugene Teo is also good. Dr Mike is dogshit though, and he's giving the other science based guys a bad name. (Milo is pretty bad too.) He's giving all these shitty reason to go slow, but the main reason not to is becaue you have to use less weight which means less tension which means less gains. The other crap he goes on about is ROM, but when he does leg press for example and goes completely duck footed and knees way out to the side, buttwink etc, those extra 2 inches you get from doing that stuff is doing everything you can to get deeper without actually elongating the target muscle, oh yeah, and you also have to strip off weight to get down there. Honestly the only good advice you see from RP is generic stuff that everyone says, everything that is unique to RP is bad. (edit: 55:50, it's even worse than that, he stops the set with 1-2 RIR of mechanical failure) Nippard should focus his attention on the shit advice they give. Science should self-correct, he needs to clean his own house.

I like what Bald Omni-Man says about lifting tempo: "Control the weight, but don't be a try-hard." Control the weight and don't flail around, go through a decent range of active tension, and progress over time. Tension is still the main driver within a set, and progressive overload the main driver over time. Dr. Mike has made up half the stuff he says. He's not evidence-based at all anymore. The evidence is pretty limited, guys who are actual science communicators like Eric Helms are much more reliable. I think after training with Mike recently, this video is Jeff's Canadian-nice way of distancing himself from Dr. Mike. Jeff built the majority of his physique doing big compound movements and getting stronger on isolations. Bread and butter stuff.

Not gonna act like I know him at all behind the scenes but I get the impression that Jeff rides the science based wave when it comes to engagement on instagram, KZbin etc but can’t morally justify selling something he knows doesn’t work.

at 27:00 major horsecawk delhagen has a slight misconception about the bar graph. The difference is insignificant not because it's small, it's insiginificant because it is smaller than the possible error in measurement. Meaning that the slightly higher bar graph could also be slightly lower or exaclty the same but we have no idea. So that difference is in fact completely fake and you should look at the two bars as being equal. This is like a statistics meme so it feels kind of unintuitive.

Yes it was funny, and his mental math part was funny. He almost had a point that if the study was 4 years it could be more but as you said it could be because of chance. I don't actually believe that 2 different methods can have the same results but it depends on the time frame.

Professor Horsecock, just a small comment on “significance” here. In scientific terms, “not significantly different” does not mean that the difference is too small to be biologically relevant. It means that the measured difference is more likely to have arose from random variance than an actual effect. So the small differences in the bar graphs at 29:55 were more likely due to random chance than the shorter negative actually being beneficial.

WARNING - PENCILNECK COMMENT Eric - very small differences between graphs are utterly meaningless if the extent of difference is not significant enough . The reason being that if you repeat the study then there will be differences each time and in different directions, and overall that means there's basically no difference. That's why scientists stress the point of these tiny differences as being insignificant. If one approach was truly superior to the other then there would be a big enough effect that can't be down to errors and you would see much more consistent findings. From what I can see, as a medical doctor, most hypertrophy research suggests science based approaches can be disregarded apart from overall effort, and arguably a decent stretch at the start. I find your sceptical approach to exercise science very refreshing, and love the points you make about bringing gusto to what you enjoy doing above all else but jumping on a tiny difference between graphs is a bit of an own goal as it just undermines the good points you made

I know someone who had a stroke last year. He can't do most free weight exercises, due to lack of balance. Bench pressing would probably kill him. He can't do skull crushers. He can't squat. Pretty much none of the 'basic' stuff. However most 'science based' exercises are perfectly doable, as they are mostly designed for perfect balance

I've been watching your videos pretty regularly for about seven years (first was "Stay Natty Bros,") and for the only relevant background about me, my sole sport for a long time was running, until lifting looked like fun. I started "hybrid training" before there was a word for it; my collegiate kinesiology and athletic training friends said I was a "concurrent training athlete." Your videos did then, and just again today now made me excited about lifting--but even more so just training and improving at all. I really liked Jeff's video, but yours here got me fired up, again. I don't comment a ton online, but I wanted to drop my pennies in the basket and as a stranger say you're a positive influence and the man.

So wtf, its about managing fatigue i guess. So just take a day off when you cant lift as heavy and eat more carbs for a day. I use the rp hypertrophy app to organize lifts and i just go to failure almost everylift instead of the rir bs. Now going into week 5 to full failure next week. Planning on 3 days rest prior with some carbs then i plan to go full failure on everything and beyond. I expect to go till the leg press is stuck down, etc. Its all mindset

I would say that the method you followed is actually optimal. Body building horse crap for a couple of years to develop tendon/ligaments and mind muscle connections and then in a couple of years, get to horse cocking. I probably believe this because this is literally what I did. It was inadvertently because I started working out with my bodybuilding focused buddy. I made some gains but I became disillusioned because I found out he was running massive amounts of PEDs and lied to me about it. So I quit training with him and ventured out on my own. I followed actual strong people like Matt Wenning, Stan Efferding and Mark Bell. I came to the conclusion that what is really important is progressing strength. And big surprise, as I worked up to a 315 squat, my legs grew. And the same with the other associated muscles according to each main movement. Strength is king and bodybuilding is masturbation; not to mention, bodybuilding is gay.

What does work - soviet research proves this a long time ago. If you can lift 100 lbs, you can lower 140 lbs and hold 140-200lbs. So If you've maxed you positive (lift) strength - Train to max you eccentric (lowing) 140% of your positive strength. Train negative only training with 140% loads. Same with isometrics with 140-200% loads. Those loads are SUPER HORSE COCK!!! Do this for 4 6 weeks blocks a year and you will be bigger and stronger - impossible not to be. A trick is use a high sodium diet to reduce injury risk.
