I have been out for a few years now. E6 and lower your BAS and BAH are taken away if you choose to live in the barricks. Living in barricks does have some downsides. But there are a ton of upsides. Almost free housing, still have to pay for internet. Which was 55$ a mouth when i was in. And mess hall for your food needs, and you don't have to pay for it. The cons, you have to follow the rules of the barricks. No, microwave, toaster or any other cooking device. I have heard some barricks banned mini fridges. I guess it depends on the unit. And the buildings are in pretty rough shape, holes in the walls can take weeks to get fixed. The marines have it worse from what i have heard. They had black mold in many of their buildings and don't fix it for years. With rent being really expensive, almost free housing is huge. Even if your pay is shit. Food and housing are 2/3 of the most expensive living expenses you will have to deal with.

You had to live in the barracks even if married in the Infantry in the 80s? Barracks personnel were of course to maintain the barracks but that was usually a detail pulled from the Company during the 0900 work call formation. Then if no training (lol) busy work around the Company HQ, equipment maintenance, and motor pool. Lunch 1200-1300, 2nd work call was whatever dumb shit your LT decided would behoove his platoon to do then 1430 final formation and finally if no one fucked up you run away after 1700 salute. Lol

You're out here trying to make the Army sound like it's way easier than it is. If you were my soldier and I knew you posted some shit like this, I'd take that as you seeing yourself as having an easy life and not being challenged. Since an NCOs job is to develop soldiers, I guess my only recourse is to challenge you further, because clearly you're being underutilized if you think your life is easy.
