Thank you so much for making and uploading this video! I am a teacher and my classes read the novel Whirligig by Paul Fleischman. Every year I teach this book, I try to find an interesting video of a whirligig to introduce the concept to my students. This video is perfect because you show the entire process for making a whirligig, which is exactly what the character in the book does. I am so grateful to you and happy that I found this! Thanks again.

Very nice. Makes me excited to make one when I get home from college. One thing I would do differently is not glue the plane to the post. I would make the rod going in to the plane a little longer and just set the plane on that. This will give it the ability to face in to the wind to make the most use of it. Other than that, love the project. Good job.

Very nice! (Don't you think that the plane should be able to rotate on top of the post to catch the right wind direction?)

I have always had problems with white spray paint sticking to wood. I think it has something to do with the paint pigment. To fix this problem I either use a clear spray paint or primer first. this way the cells of the wood are sealed and the white paint sticks, and is not absorbed into the wood. This is a great project build. I live in a town that has a Navy Air Station, so I will be building a few of these for the next crafts fair. thank you for the plans template.

Eric ....the paint may not be sticking to the wood because of the adhesive you used to stick the pattern to the wood.
@timothygorsuch83734 жыл бұрын
What type of Adhesive did you use on the wooden Airplane pattern? I've never seen Adhesive like that ! So you can just peal the Paper right off!

@dougblazer13766 жыл бұрын
I saw a comparison on different kinds of glue and I was surprised to see that hot glue out performed most of the wood glues. The test time was short so it didn't explore longevity. Great job.

You made it wrong. It's supposed to pivot on a rod to always face into the wind to keep the propeller spinning. Not made to mount solid to a post.

Not a properly built whirligig and not a whirligig at all. Since he has a band saw, the plane should be thinned out at the rear. Wings and tail should also be thinned out. This is just yard art with a spinning prop. If it was built properly, the entire plane would turn into the wind.
