I was toiling for months trying to figure out why my battery drain was happening. Try a few different new batteries and finally broke down and took it to the shop. I tested the alternator at 65 amps prior to taking it in but the shop still said the alternator needed to be replaced. Low and behold, within the next week the battery died again. I went back to the shop and got my money back for the labor. They admitted it wasn't the alternator and was this handsfree link problem. thank you so much for posting this. I'm sleeping better with this problem solved.

Thank you, Eric. I've had this problem for years. I even keep the car attached to a trickle charger when it's parked at home. In the 13 years I've owned this car, I used the HFL a total of 1 time. And, that was to test it's features, which I found useless to me. I'll disconnect the system to save myself a lot of hassle.
@zangetsu2094 жыл бұрын
That was the first thing I took out after getting my TL. I noticed it was hot when the car is off. When I tried to disconnect it, I could tell the previous owner knew about the issue and tried to literally rip the part out possible out of anger cause when I took out that fist piece, plastic bits were falling off everywhere as though someone tried to yank it out without removing the screws. I bought an aftermarket system off Amazon for $50 that works via the auxiliary port so now I have both my Bluetooth calls (required where I live) and music. Works like a charm and I couldn't be happier!

Thanks for this video. I've been having this problem for the last 6 months, leaving my car on a trickle charger. I just died again after sitting in the garage for 5 days. I had this issue diagnosed by the car shop, but they didn't know where the module was. and clearly they don't know how to use google either. I bought this car new in 2007 because I'm 6'5' and I fit comfortably in the car. Its smooth ride on the road as well. A new in car is my future in the next couple fo years, but this solves a nagging issue that is just pissing me off. Huge double thumbs up.

Thank you for this video. I did have parasitic battery drain. Watched your video, disconnected that module; no more battery depletion over the weekend.. I have owned my 2005 TL since new. The Hands Free phone set up is well planned out by Acura but unusable from the day you buy it. The ambient noise in the car makes using it nearly impossible due in part to the the installed microphone not being noise cancelling. No body can understand you!! Nor you them. We bought a 2010 Honda CR-V for my wife....SAME ISSUE!!! Not until we traded the CR-V in for a 2020 Acura RDX does hand free phone calls work. I've got a 2007 TL Type-S. Amazing vehicle. It was always my dream car in the exact setup mine is, carbon bronze pearlescent, a spec body kit, all the goodies and only $5900. Having my own shop I was prepared to fix some issues, but good Lord, I've never dealt with a car with so many electrical issues. I love the car, but now I'm fighting the fact the windshield is leaking and the water travelled into the Micu module and destroyed it for the second time, the first time it was the wonderfully placed sunroof drain leaking into the Micu module wiring harness. Again I love this car, love the fact Acura still keeps so many parts for this car in inventory, but man, I wish the seats were made of better material and they would have put a bit more consideration into the cars electrical system.

I have a 2007 TL Type-S with 46,000 miles. I've never had a car with so many problems. Just had a claim with Acura for the passenger side dashboard cracked around the air bag. They won't replace. Oil pump seal has been leaking slowly for years so I had it replaced ($1200) and at the same time power steering pump was bad ($800). Acura told me my hands free device broke cause I didn't use it ($700) if I decide to replace it. Not! All the paint came off the rear spoiler ($300) to have it repainted. The guts to my ignition broke off inside so I couldn't turn the key to start the car. This was covered under extended warranty. Actuator in front passenger door replaced. Both actuators in the mirrors broke ($324) to replace. The motor for the driver side window so I couldn't wind the window down. Acura wanted $551 to replace. Bought motor at RockAuto for $46 and body shop replaced for $80. Plastic piece over cupholder broke in half; Acura replaced ($200). I've been buying cars for over 50 years and this is by far the worst car I've ever owned. I will never again buy a Honda product. By the way, the hands free device was draining my battery.

This may help if you're hitting the HFL voice control button and it's saying it's "locked enter a 4 digit code". If you have the Technology package, like I do in my 2008 RDX, just under the HFL buttons are a separate "set of voice control buttons for the navigation, climate control, and audio systems". So I'm assuming you can still operate all of those things, even after disabling your HFL, which is only for calling and answering your telephone anyway.

Any updates on if this is still working? I don't want to spend the money if it's just going to die again.

Does the car need to be running or just in on position?

Hey weird question...if I think someone has bugged my car to having steering problems, what part of the car would they have targeted? The steering column?
@OsamahBhutta4 жыл бұрын
It's a pretty simple system, unless you have an electrical steering rack, but that's still not something to bug. There would be no point to bug that to lock up or something, that would require great amounts of effort, like hours of work and well over 1k as it would require a mechanical component, electrical, and wireless control tonactivate the bug which would in turn need service from like a sim card.....no ones gonna do all that lol.

Depends on the vehicle but in my experience most problems are tire related.

Hey, Eric. What's the point of repairing the Hands Free Link (besides not draining your battery)? The phones today are not compatible, right and beyond using hands free talking, the functions are rather limited? So, what functionality does a working Hands Free Link add to the ride?

It controls the voice command options, no hfl, no voice commands available.
