I love the way you narrate your videos. You will say "plates were fastened" instead of "I fastened the plates". It is almost like you humble yourself as you talk about all of the fantastic things you do. As a faithful watcher of your channel, I'm a woman who loves a man who can be humble all while showing how badass he actually is! I love your channel! Excellent skill and engineering. I can't wait for the day that you can do this full time and we can just watch all of your adventures and wish we were there! Great job on this sail & the additions!

Terrific additions to the boat Eric. The best thing (by far) I ever did to my boat was to add the inner forestay. This has removed 90% of the stress / fatigue of sailing in challenging wind conditions for me, and I'm 100% confident you will love it. I have the same Selden bow sprit too. The gennaker takes a bit of getting used to because things can get out of control quickly if one is not careful, but I'm sure you will quickly grow to love it as much as I do too. Hope Covid will allow you to have a great adventure this Summer!

Erik I am 64 years old and before I pass on to the big sleep I would like to visit Norway and cruise up north along the coast and crevices of Norway. You live in the most beautiful country I have ever seen thru your eyes and now thru other You Tube videos. The harsh winters make the summer more precious each year as spring arrives. Truly an awsone geography.if I had a Surius 40ds I would sail to norway and see all the places you have shown me with my own eyes. Absolutely the best sailing videos on KZbin. I know exactly what its like to change jobs in the maritime industry. I served 20 years in the US Navy Submarines retiring a very senior enlisted man. My first job after the Navy was a deck hand on a ocean tugboat with a barge. It was hard to start all over from the bottom. I am very impressed that you showed us the real life challenge of a career in the industry. You are one of a rare few of us that understands that a captains are not made in the wheelhouse. Great Job Erik!!

Thanks for mentioning that, I understand the ease at the tack, but at the clew why not two bowlines like every other jib? Love the way you have it anchored to save any strain on the foredeck. Erik, when drilling through your core and the stringers, you should drill oversize, fill the entire hole with thickened epoxy and then redrill your hole the proper size. This will prevent any water from getting into the wood core. Trust me, you'll thank me in 5 years. Good on Rolly Tasker for recognizing that you will be a very good reference for their sails. They did the same thing with Sailing Florence and I will seriously give them my full attention when upgrading my sail suite.

Love the new working jib. My old boat did not have roller furling so taking down my headsails was a bit of a challenge. I ended up making my own downhaul for the jib with a long length of small diameter braided line. I tied one end of the line to the head of the sail and ran the rest down through the center of each piston hank. The hanks will hold the line more or less parallel to the stay when hoisted. At the tack I used a turning block to run the line to a cleat near the mast. When I went to take down the sail I would ease the halyard and pull on the braided line. This would pull the head of the sail right down to the deck and into a nice, manageable bundle. I think this would work for your boat as well. Glad to see you back on the water. Cheers!
