I love it when people who own dressage horses are open to jumping. I love how you change what you do because I agree; dressage is repetitive. That's why I enjoy jumping more than dressage but I am much better at dressage. I hope that Gee has more confidence if you ever try it again. It was lovely to see!

@tigerwings25513 жыл бұрын
One of the most motivated jumpers I've ever ridden was a dressage horse who literally snapped the pole on two on his first jump. He never got to be the best jumper as his owner didn't like show jumping and from the outside he looked horrible, but when you got on him and FELT how much he wanted to do it you just knew that that horse had some real potential. Sometimes there are a lot of things you can't know about a horse until you're on them. I wish I could ride that horse again

@@theerinwilliams this was my take on this too. I would have approached this from the ground first so he gets some free jumping in. That way he learns to have fun and express himself. Then once ridden you do need to allow him his head and neck to stretch in jumping otherwise he’s going to resent it. If he decides to buck and muck about after that’s normally exuberance but your riding skill can sit that. Be prepared to give him his head.

@@theerinwilliams Exactly! I've always been of the opinion that cross discipline training is incredibly important. Not only does it keep the horse engaged, but they learn something in another activity that will help them with their main training. Barrel horses focus on tight turns; that would be a great help to a focused jumper. Pole bending would be a great tool to help with flying lead changes and stride length. And dressage provides all of them with flexibility. :)

He looks very good - he keeps his collection after the jump which really helps with using his back and neck correctly.
