Ernesto Lecuona plays...

Ernesto Lecuona was my great uncle...my mother and father’s uncle (my parents were first cousins - yes...that’s legal in more countries than you might imagine, Cuba included 🙂 ). This is the first time I’ve seen this video. It’s wonderful to watch him perform like this...the movement of his hands/fingers across the keyboard. He made his first performance when he was five and was composing by the time he was eleven. He was compared to one of his American contemporaries and thus nicknamed “the Cuban Gershwin”. One of my favorite trivia things about him was that one of his songs, Siempre en mi Corazon (Always in My Heart) was nominated for an Academy Award...White Christmas won that year. I was fortunate to hear him play when I was a kid. He died in the Canary Islands in 1963...I was 12 years old. Thanks to whoever posted this video...out of sync and all.

Gitanerías , es el nombre de la pieza, del álbum Andalucía . Lecuona pianista compositor de mano directriz zurda ( izquierda), por lo tanto los diestros tuvimos que esforzarnos mucho más al interpretar sus composiciones , como La comparsa, Malagueña , Por ai viene el chino, y tantas otras.
