@@humanbeing4841 "governing autonomy to cultural and linguistic ethnic groups" Here is the problem, the "central government" is not interested in it and is calling it apartheid. We MUST organize ourselves into self-sufficient communities where we provide services to our people so that we can become independent.
@humanbeing48418 ай бұрын
@@nedor64 The irony of calling such a structure "apartheid", is that apartheid is fundamentally an authoritarian ideology that requires a central government to be instituted. Under a federal model, no apartheid can exist because there is not monopoly of state control to enforce such an policy. As someone who was born post 1994, I believe SA should've always been a federation of provinces based primarily upon the historic ethnic and linguistic demarcations of the country's territory united around the idea of governing autonomy within those demarcations while maintaining union on a national level. A top-down centralized government has NEVER been a good thing for South Africa and has always resulted in greater nationalistic and racial tensions within the territory because of one tribe trying to impose itself on all the others. A federated model would ensure that no single ethnic group driven by an authoritarian ideology could ever dominate and oppress another ethnic group residing within the country ever again. We are one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse countries on the planet and yet for some nonsensical reason we are forced to be governed as a unitary state. Unitary states only make sense when the inhabitants have a common ethnic, cultural, liguistic and religious heritage. A highly centralized South African state will ALWAYS result in the country being governed by a corrupt, authoritarian, nepotist or racially bigoted oligarchy. The implementation of "Unity in Diversity" can only exist within the framework of a governing system that truly acknowledges such diversity and is willing to provide autonomy to those diverse communities within the country; only a federal model can ensure this framework.
@marcusmoonstein2428 ай бұрын
I'm older than you, and so I could vote in the '94 elections. I remember serious discussions at the time around a having a decentralized federalist system copied directly from the successful Swiss system of cantons. Unfortunately the ANC was (and is still) married to the old Soviet model of highly centralized authority where all serious decisions are made at the national level. So the ANC negotiators torpedoed the federalist idea in the pre-election constitutional negotiations. We missed the one opportunity we had to write federalism into our constitution. If we had done that we wouldn't be having talk of Cape succession today.
@verlorenvlei13258 ай бұрын
Absolutely .. A dedicated group of far seeing people lobbied hard and long to the CODESA negotiating delegates, under the banner of Groundswell.. 💯 Agree. South Africa does need to be looked at from a unique perspective given the magnitude of our diversity. Our biggest issue is that our current leaders seem to want copy the frameworks of countries where almost everyone is the same ie. You are correct that South Africa cannot be held together because this is how the world works. The people living in South Africa do not constitute a single nation and have different cultures and identities. Identity, as the great English Parliamentarian, Enoch Powell, once said is the ultimate stuff of politics since it poses the most fundamental question of all "Who do you think you are"? The Jewish people have clung to their identity for over 2,000 years and after centuries of persecution and hardship have now returned to their ancient homeland of Israel. And as Aristotle pointed out no State can survive without "philia" the sense of fellow citizenship that binds a society together in a common bond of identity and patriotism. It is as clear as day that South Africa, as a whole, lacks the quality of philia found in abundance in Orania where everyone strives for the common good and violent crime and corruption is more or less non-existent. A crucial issue to consider is that as nothing has been resolved in South Africa in the past 30 years why does anyone think that anything will be resolved in the next 30 years under the current dispensation? One ironic feature of the map showing the various European countries superimposed on the land mass of South Africa is that each of them represents individual nation states with their distinct culture and identity. In other words, "apartheid", the natural order of things that will increasingly assert itself as the 20th century progresses and so called multiculturalism collapses due to its inherent contradictions.

from the position of the leader in Africa to the fall to the third world level in only 30 years, the worst thing is to disagree, the whites built a strong country and after the blacks took over power, everything fell at lightning speed, it's a tragedy and very sad, everywhere there is neglect, people steal tracks and cables and the police do nothing there, schools, army, power plants, railways everything is in a state of decay, how it can be , ruin something that was good so quickly, it's unimaginable

Thanks, a very interesting point of view. However, were the 4 provinces which we had 50-odd years ago not much alike to this idea? What should occur to bring a similar system into process; by all or most current leaders with obviously new blood represented. Particularly forward thinkers not dogmatic or demanding personalities? I'm very interested in being informed.

South Africa was a thriving country and very wealthy until the ANC took the reins. Corruption is rampant and as long as you have incompetent leadership it will continue. Too many tribal leaders that think they are better. Need to get rid of the inbuilt tribal structures otherwise it will continue to fail. To fix this beautiful country it needs a coalition of the best black and white leaders.

I have been in africa all my 62 yrs. From Rhodesia to South Africa. we can talk about the of morality of the previous sa government or the further imorality of the present anc led dispensation I believe in africa it has everything to do with Race. The majority of blacks in this part of Africa do not want whites here at all but they are stuck with us. Keep pushing Ernst, maybe you will penetrate the resistant mindset.

The issue with South Africa is that since 1994 we all became complacent in a country that we thought was going to become all inclusive when if we as citizens were realistic from day one we would have known that this was not going to be the case. Behind the scenes those in the corridors of political power who were networking prior to the election were simply setting themselves up for a huge payday and we see that now in the case that there are a number of ultra wealthy SA who simply played the game. Getting rich through legitimate ways is admirable, however the roles have simply been switched. South Africans should educate themselves more with regards the political scene in SA and get more involved then perhaps they would vote with their conscience and not their emotions. Citizens should not sit on the sidelines and complain about what the government is not doing if they not willing to hold their council men and local politicians accountable. The country is failing due to LACK of ACCOUNTABILITY which in turn breeds CORRUPTION. You can have the best politicians with the best intentions but if there is no ACCOUNTABILITY and TRANSPARENCY then it is all futile. No current political party in SA can play the race card anymore and when voters go to the ballot boxes these are the parties to avoid because if they continue voting wiith their emotions the next 30 years will simply be a repeat of the passed 30 years with added compund interest which will ultimately lead to SA imploding. SA needs a coalition of parties to form a government whereby they can monitor each other and hold each other accountable for a better SA. South africans need to clean house and become proud South Africans again. If South Africans were as passionate about their politics as they are about there sports teams we would be a strong nation again. VOTE IN 2024 WITH YOUR CONSCIENCE AND NOT YOUR EMOTIONS.

I am a Christian, and I love South Africa. It is a beautiful country with so much diversity that the world has failed to comprehend, and I am proud of that. Unfortunately, we are being led by people who are corrupt and only care about their pockets instead of the quality of life for its citizens. We truly need to pray for South Africa for its prosperity. We need God's blessings through Christ Jesus. I pray that South Africa falls into the right government that will lead to everyone's success and prosperity. God does not know race, and does not care about race, for We are all one in Christ Jesus, Amen!

Even if we vote the ANC out there will be a long and painful process to reverse the damage that has been done and I don't think most people are prepared for that. My other concern is that I don't believe there is 1 specific party that would be able fix all of our woes. There are many different people in South Africa and we expect and want different things from government. Somewhere someone will always be upset. I'm also not sure about a coalition government because we can't agree on anything. PS: I wrote this before watching the whole video.

1:58 You are so right about the "American Revolution". It really wasn't a revolution, but as you say, a secession. All the colonial / state legislative bodies, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and so on, were in place and continued to administer order. No doubt there were challenges in forging a federal republic, but the "War for Independence" bore little resemblance to the French Revolution, for example. So, this American thanks you for getting it more accurate than most!
@ponraul12218 ай бұрын
As an American, the War for Independence was most certainly a revolution. Most Americans at the start of the war thought of themselves as British subjects at least until the actual Declaration of Independence. The new American states forged an entirely new system based upon individual liberty and the strictest limits on government we’ve ever seen. A simple secession is much more akin to Canada or Australia leaving the British Empire, where they carried over most political systems.

Isn't South Africa's motto _"Unity in Diversity"_ ? South Africa recognises there are different languages, that's why we made each one for them official instead of just declaring English to be the only language to be spoken. The point then is to unite as different people under one common goal, one common struggle, that's what a nation is. Your issue is that you have an Apartheid style of mindset. One where if you're separate you're separate and there's no way you could have anything in common with anyone else.

About 5 years ago while I was praying for the SA government and asking for the Lord's help, He showed me a vision. I was looking down onto a field. There was a big circular trail in the field and a small dot of open area in the middle of the circle. From the dot there were 12 paths to the outer circle and all the Lord said to me was: "Like an orange." I immediately looked up what orange means spiritually, it means: An orange has 12 sections, which point to permanency, unity and completeness. Perfect government, a nation. (12 tribes, 12 apostles). I knew this is what the Lord has in stall for the SA government. A Godly structure with 12 Godly representatives for each tribe in SA.

I see South Africa today, as a modern day Tower of Babel.... hence the reason why I sympathize with all of it's people of different backgrounds, races, belief systems etc etc. The only solution as I see it is a " Revolution " not led by man, but rather by a mighty move of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. There is only one way that we as human beings can truly be united as one family and that is in non other than our Lord Jesus Christ. And the bible becomes our " manual of daily living " as we use this amazing and powerful WORD of GOD to instruct us as to how we are to live with one another, and treat and honor one another. There is no other way - but God's way, and yes as Jesus said it is a " hard and narrow way ", but it is the only way that leads to the life that only God, through Jesus Christ, and by the power of the Holy Spirit desires to give to us. My God Bless South Africa. Tas Collier, New Zealand
