"I've heard people call Turbo the worst Power Rangers season" Let me introduce to two other seasons: Overdrive and Megaforce.
@AyaC2 ай бұрын
Red Racer's actor Kishi Yuji is also the voice actor for Street Fighter's Ken Masters since Street Fighter 3 and was once married to Dekaranger's Deka Pink actress Kikuchi Mika for 4 years before they divorced. Mika then married her Dekaranger co-star Yoshida Tomokazu who played Deka Break. Red Racer/Kyosuke also returned in the Carranger Tribute episode of Gokaiger which somehow the alien scientist from Zangyack fell in love with him. (Another female alien!?) Also RIP, Motohashi Yuka/Natsumi/Yellow Racer. In the Megaranger Tribute episode of Gokaiger, Kenta becomes a teacher at his old school and is the advisor for his old IT club. Each Megaranger is given a special ability based on the symbols on the helmet. Mega Red is a Computer which enables Mega Red to analyse and counter any enemy attacks (The irony is that Kenta doesn't know how to use a real computer). This is also the start of the Red Ranger who is less serious, unlike previous Red Rangers who are serious and usually the leader. Mega Black was the leader instead. If I am not wrong, from Carranger up to Hurricanger, if there is a human villain in the show, the actresses are usually softcore adult actresses from Toei V-cinema series which focuses on more mature movies like the cult movie Lady Battle Cop.

For a while it was, but then Overdrive and Megaforce came along and suddenly Turbo was Oscar worthy by comparison.

So the Ohranger Carranger cancelation saving thing is actually a myth. It was really Fiveman and Jetman. Also Ohranger was one of the highest selling toylines of the franchise

Great video. I never hated Turbo or its film unlike some people. Hearing about its Sentai counterpart is cool, while Space that's interesting. Love In Space, top five favorites. Looking forward to that honest review, love hearing your thoughts

As always, it's great to hear your experience with toku. Hopefully you can share your thoughts on kamen rider one day

As Linkara pointed out, the only reason people seem to hate Turbo is because of the mere existence of Justin.

Doctor Who fans will notice the TARDIS sounds whenever they show the bad guys lair in Megaranger, this is because stock sound effects from the BBC were loaned to Toei in the 70s and they still had them on hand when the show was produced. Though I often joke that the 8th Doctor never got his TV show because he was kidnapped and held prisoner by the Nezireija for a year, XD
@Rixec22 ай бұрын
I never hated Turbo, but its tone really does jar with what Power Rangers had been doing. Though, the finale is one of the best and really sets up Power Rangers in Space gloriously. It gives us the stakes, the threats, and the mission, an uncertain future awaiting as we go to space.

Excellent reviews! Huge Super Sentai fan and I love your series of reviews for them. I have seen everything from Denjiman through Zenkaiger so I am sure that I have a lot to look forward to. I agree with your overall thoughts on Carranger, I love it including the character of Signalman. I thought that he, Ninjaman and Gunmajin from Ohranger were all highlights of their respective shows. I was also surprised to hear that you think In Space was better than Megaranger. I actually want to do a video where I compare In Space to Megaranger going over each major point and saying which show did it better. Some Megaranger episodes are better than their PR counterparts, but I personally found it to be a middling series although it had a fair share of good or even great episodes in it. I thought that the cast was kind of bland except for Mega Silver, their mentor and Guirail. I hated how they killed off the best villain after 12 episodes, the Nejirangers had the perfect amount of screentime though. The worst part was the ending, the Megarangers' acting was amazing during those episodes but I hated seeing the entire town turn against them. Those ungrateful jerks made the Megarangers suffer and they never got any karma for it. It angered me so much that I want to do a fanfic rewrite where some of the civilians are actually on their side but then the fearful townsfolk start fighting them forcing the Megarangers to leave but not before they call them out for attacking people just because they wanted to aid them. As Dr. Hinelar terrorizes the town, he thanks the mean citizens for driving the Megarangers away and then they realize how wrong they were to treat them the way they did, at least most of them. I hate that woman who begged the Megarangers for help only to say that she doesn't forgive them after they saved the life of her and her child, if she weren't a mother I would have really wanted to see her pay for that disrespect. I would write a scene where she immediately gets attacked after saying that but gets saved again leading to the Megarangers sternly telling her that they will always save civilians no matter how they treat them because they are heroes and remind her that they did not start the fight with the villains, they became Megarangers to save people like her and note that they are saving lives while she doesn't even let other people help the Megarangers which leads to her realizing that she was a horrible person for treating them like that. After the Megarangers defeat Hinelar, she and all the other people who turned against them apologize for their actions and the Megarangers forgive them. I always loved Countdown to Destruction but now it's 10 times better because those scenes of Bulk and Skull calling out the other people for thinking the Power Rangers have abandoned them, offering themselves up in an "I am Spartacus" moment and especially leading the charge against the army of foot soldiers make it seem like Saban looked at the Megaranger ending and decided to completely flip it around. That was another thing I hated about the finale, that teacher they were friends with was knocked out for most of it so we never got to see where he would have stood but personally I know he would have stood by the Megarangers. Maybe that's exactly why the writers removed him from the narrative, they wanted things as bleak as possible for our heroes. Also I have to ask do you really think that all of the Power Rangers series after In Space are better than their Sentai counterparts? I look forward to hearing your reviews on them. Personally though I felt like Gingaman was more complete than Lost Galaxy, Timeranger was better written and produced than Time Force although the main villains in PR were more interesting, Gaoranger is practically the same show as Wild Force and I watched Magiranger less than a year after I saw Mystic Force because it was the most mediocre PR series for me. Aside from that one I love the Disney Era from Ninja Storm through RPM, some of those are undoubtedly better than their Sentai counterparts in my book. Also while I do really like Dinocharge I personally didn't like Samurai, Megaforce or Ninja Steel at all. I haven't even been able to finish them, and I started watching them before seeing any of the Sentai they were based on.

The phantom ranger was a 6th ranger in turbo and the idea was to have a crush on Cassady. And if you watch Linkara review of turbo and in space he said it apost to be the pahtom ranger apost to be the past power rangers or the sprit of it.

I have the opposite opinion about VR Master. I didn't hate him. I thought he was fun take on the "mysterious mentor" troope, however I felt he didn't had much screen time compare to his american counterpart, the Phantom Ranger, and the mystery behind his identity was solve pretty easly (due to some behind the scenes issues, the Phantom Ranger never had his identity revealed, making him one the biggest mysteries in Power Ranger franchise). On other hand, I actually like Signalman. He was pretty fun and, unlike his PR counterpart, Blue Senturion, the show actually makes him an actual character, we get to see where's his from, his family and the development of his relationship with the Carranger and the people of Earth (in particular the son of the Carranger's boss).

I don't know if this is the official explanation, but Tamao Sato (Momo/Oh Pink) became extremely popular in the second half of the 90s. I imagine that her small participation in the crossover with Carranger was due to other commitments.

Yes, they used the footage of the Tokyo Dome in Power Rangers Turbo and just didn't bother to explain what this weird melon bread looking stadium is. Presumably, it's supposed to be a sports arena in Angel Grove somewhere.

How did I not realize the plot to Carranger is the same as Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy?
@KevinSmith-wm8td2 ай бұрын
The myth is still persistent I see, not your fault Eric, we didn’t get all the information about what saved or killed Super Sentai until..2018 I think? Fiveman is the culprit, though that is a bit unfair because of certain factors like Japan’s economy crashing after the bubble burst and the head writer having creative burnout and was dismissed for a replacement. Jetman was just the shot in the arm that the franchise needed, by adding J-Drama to the standard superhero story. Interesting things about these seasons: Carranger has a video game that never got adapted to the USA on the SNES. The reason for Megaranger becoming Power Rangers in Space is because of a communication error, as during the development stage of the Sentai show, it was conceptually titled Gigaranger and was going to be space themed. Saban saw the drawings and went with it as they were wrapping up Turbo. Meanwhile, the production crew at Toei and Bandai changed their minds to have it be video game and tech themed, much like when Dynaman in the 80s was supposed to be a baseball team theme, it was too far into production to change certain things like the mecha. Tsuyoshi Nonaka, the mechanical designer of the show, stated at the Japan World Heroes convention in 2023 that the space theme of Megaranger’s mecha was a response to the original Star Wars trilogy getting a limited theatrical re-release worldwide and the hype around the Phantom Menace in the late ‘90s. He also started to change his design philosophy to what he calls the “Do Not Touch” method for the gear of the Rangers, taking inspiration from everyday objects that children could not play with and making a toy themed around it so children could play and imagine being more grown up. Ex. The Navic Blaster gun from Carranger is themed after a car GPS, the Mantan Gun from Go-Onger (RPM) is a gas pump etc.

My problem with Turbo is the cast change half way. Getting rid of your cast just because was just dumb to me. Especially in an on going story the first six seasons had. Carranger may be silly cause yeah it is but it’s a fun ride
@thesaiyanjedi2 ай бұрын
I remember back when Turbo first aired, even I was morphing (pun intended) away from it because of how silly it was becoming, even for Power Rangers. Plus, the first episode picked up where the movie left off, which I didn't see in theaters because I assumed the show was going to retcon it just like they did the MMPR movie. Anyway, I know the ratings were at a utter low point for the Zordon era during Turbo and the cast change did help revi e things, but I just happened to tune in the watch one day after dropping off of it, and all of a sudden this big cast change was happening to replace the last veteran rangers I had left (Tommy, Kat, Adam and Tanya) and replaced them with these new rangers I knew nothing about...and Fox Kuds, who were masters of promoting big event episodes for there shows, did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to advertise this! Honestly, all of the missteps made during Turbo helped make me choose not to watch In Space religiously during it's original run. I had no idea that it was originally planned to be the final season, so I didn't even see Countdown to Destruction when it first aired...I decision I DEEPLY regret as a Power Rangers fan! Ironically I did watch a good amount of Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force after that, so I guess I still noticed the quality pick up.

ERod, please don't spread false rumors. Ohranger didn't almost end Super Sentai, the ratings were bad but toy sales were really good. I also don't think PR Turbo was the worst season anymore. Fiveman almost ended Super Sentai and Jetman saved it.
