They have systematically and completely obliterated the franchise beyond repair, it will NEVER return to its former glory, ever. It is ruined and destroyed forever. Disney could sell Star Wars back to George Lucas tomorrow and everything can be undone, Disney's crap can be made non-canon while the EU is brought back, that still wouldn't help Star Wars because the image, mythos, lore, etc. of Star Wars is gone forever because of everything Disney has crapped out the last decade. Well, I think this movie did redefine the old ones in an aesthetic sense at least. The main point of this one is that it looks and feels like a Star Wars movie should given today's technology. It's setting the stage (hopefully) for a series of stronger and stronger Star Wars films to come.

I don't know what you think a Star Wars movie should feel or look like, but that was definitely not it. Far too much emphasis on the action, and the camera moved way too much. Far too many scenes in the movie looked like cutscenes from a video game as well. Rogue One on the other hand, did a much better job of portraying what a Star Wars movie should look and feel like in this day and age. Not perfect mind you, but better.

I appreciate the meme aspect of the prequels, because even the biggest prequel fan has to admit that the dialogue is awful. But I also appreciate the underlying story of the prequel trilogy and the fact that George Lucas told the story he wanted to tell. It was an original story built off of timeless ideas -- the tragic fall of a hero and the fall of a republic into an empire -- and while it may not have needed to be done, it made Star Wars more of a wider, living, breathing universe, which is something I always appreciate in fiction. They seemed more genuine, like they were coming more from a place of love than corporate greed (just to what extent that's true is certainly open to interpretation). Were mistakes made? Did George go a bit far in a few places? Perhaps; he even admitted as much, which is more than what you'll get from J.J. Abrams or Rian Johnson. Say what you will about the prequels -- to each his own, I suppose -- but I ultimately have to agree with the assessment here. The prequels are far superior to the sequels, and even with all the warts, they still come off as more original and inspired than the sequels.

Well I was hyped as hell, but already after seeing it the first time I was kind of disappointed, I could see it right away how SAFE they had played....and I party understand why they did so, cause they wanted to make 100% sure to please the fans of the old trilogy, instead of taking any risk of pissing off those fans again. But I, who didnt really hate the prequels with the same passion as others did (cause you know atleast Lucas DID try to bring some new stuff in them, some of did work, some of it not at all), but TFA played it so safe it felt outright boring in the end. Makes you wonder how many people wander around Empire bases with codes that disable everything. Maybe they could have threatened some personal aide and shut off all the guns as well? Having codes carried by minions that disables your huge fortress on the press of a button seems legit to me. Also the utter ease and convenience of finding the captain as soon as they step off their own ship is pretty impressive, so you know you are looking for one particular officer on a planet sized fortress, just land in a random place and take a short stroll and you´ll find the person! No stealth, investigation, hacking, accurate info needed!

A friend of mine saw the movie first, and couldn't stop talking about Boyega because of how bad his acting skills were. The joke is that there isn't a scene where Boyega isn't gasping for air or panting heavy, wide-eyed and all. The hilarious thing is that he's doing the exact same thing in the new trailer. To me, the new cast feels like nothing more than how children would pretend/play Star Wars scenes, practically running around like they know they are in a movie; and existing just for the sake of being a part of the Star Wars brand.
