Another indication that this case is about using asset forfeiture to finance the county. The prosecutor is making up a lot of the case as they go along, manipulating and threatening witnesses, flooding the case with irrelevant witnesses, etc. while withholding evidence from the defense until the last possible second. The prosecutor has relied on having a cozy relationship with public defenders and judges so they rarely have to deal with a trial against a defense attorney that actually does their job, she's not used to having to follow the rules or pay attention to the rights of defendants or witnesses. The judge is clearly trying to help the prosecutors but she knows if she makes it too obvious it will damage her reputation. Even though the rules about asset forfeiture say that the seized money can't be used directly to give bonuses to individuals connected to the case, the police, judge, prosecutors and the public defenders all know that their departments will get a funding boost if a case results in major asset seizures and increases the possibility of them receiving a bonus of some sort. That's why the first judge referred to the defendants lawyers as 'outside interference' because they're not part of the same cozy 'legal community' as the public defenders who made their clients take plea deals agreeing to testify against this particular defendant in spite of little or no evidence.
