eSailing RACING RULES TIPS - with RYA eSailing - Virtual Regatta

It's a bit a shame that the Rules do not fully reflect to the correct racing rules of sailing. I am dreading getting back onto the water and racing for real after many people have played this VR and think they have right of way because Virtual Regatta allows them, when in real on-water racing they don't have such rights. How many protests and dare I say, "insurance claims" will we see as a result ?

You seem to be able to maneuver precisely. I have been having difficulty steering where the boat hardly turns at all or conversely swings wildly. Any tips? I've tried tapping the arrow keys, counting out the length of a keystroke, and have had no success.

I agree! I'd love to hear some tips on boat control. If I tap the side arrow keys rapidly, I can usually initiate a gentle turn, like after passing the first windward mark and gently steering down to close-hauled/beam for the second windward mark (before heading downwind). Larger manoeuvres, like quick change-of-course evasions (e.g., boat ducking), jockeying at the start line, or bearing off hard downwind, generally require more boat turning than these quick taps can accomplish... but as soon as I hold down the arrow key for more than a split-second, the boat oversteers tremendously. It's hammering me.

I have a new working theory. I think it's a connection issue causing the lag and then the wild swings. Next time you get the swings try restarting the game before the next race.

Thanx Adam, 8 of us in the Costa Blanca Yacht Association, Alicante, Spain had 5 races today. On the last downwind leg i was 20m infront on port tack, when i came into laylines i gybed, but guy just behind gybed aswell. I then had dirty wind. I managed to still cross in front but 0.01sec. Now what i should have done was when i was leeward boat on stbd on last gybe to finish line, i should have luffed up into him, giving him a penalty. Correcto, me comprendes ??

How do you get the 'compass' in the top of the screen?

You only get it if you're a VIP Member. He talks about it in the previous video; it tells you if you're getting headed or lifted

I am curious. What rules are in play here ? Regular rules state that at a mark rounding, with no overlap, trailing boat has no rights.

Scenario no. 3 you have it wrong. Once the leading boat has tacked, and is making way and has his sails full of wind, he has right of way.

Scenario no.2. First off. Overtaking boat keep clear. Second , You are not permitted to luff up above your proper coarse.
