My first successful r/c model was a Junior 60. I was an experienced builder at the time having built free flight and control line models, but I inadvertantly used the hardest wood in the kit for the tailplane, consequently I needed one and a half pounds, yes pounds, of lead under the engine! It still flew well powered by an Irvine 20.

Been playing with foamies since I was 12 and now getting into balsa. I can definately good balsa content is sparse on youtube but I'm glad I found you guys! Y'all are great 😂😂😂

The early Junior 60s had a narrower fuselage , it was redesigned in the early to mid 50s to accommodate the rather cumbersome rc gear of the day , I believe the wings were beefed up too.

As Grumpy Old Man said there were two different versions of the Junior 60. The model you have is the later wider version. I learned to fly on one of these in 1988. I built it from a Flair kit and in my inexperience built the tailplane out of the hardest wood supplied in the kit. As a result it required one and a half pounds, yes that's one and a half pounds, of lead in the nose to get the cg right. With a little Irvine 21 up front it flew very well. I still have it but it's in need of a makeover. I 'm going to convert it to electric power over the winter.

We owe a lot to the old Junior 60 it carried aloft radio gear that was the size and weight of an house brick in those pioneering days,you think that is bad seen and dealt with worse nasal jobs in particular,it was probably 'stuck' together with balsa cement which had little adhesion anyway,you saved the old girl for her new incarnation.

How do you cut the slots, ensuring a nice fit? eg, for the tail skid. Thanks.

Sad you did not filmed covering of the light blue Junior 60. Especially cabin and windows section. It could have been useful tutorial.

Keil Kraft weren’t good at getting the nose length right on lots of models since Sparkies went out of fashion. The Senator nose is too short and no excuse. Slickers and Junior 60s too short.
