Someone below pointed out something that I thought was worth noting here. I forgot to mention that California also has places away from the big cities that are not in such a fearful state. Where life is going on as normal for the most part. I've even heard that San Diego is much more normal than the Bay Area these days. California is a massive and unbelievably beautiful state and my heart is here. That's why it's sad to see it so mismanaged and dragged down with draconian policies--that by the numbers at a state level--are not making it much better off with covid deaths than a state like Florida that is charging forward, free, and open. And that's not to mention all of the other things that come with a repressed society like depression, losing a job or business, kids not in school, etc. Kids in Florida have been in school all school year and kids and San Francisco are still "learning" from home almost a year into this pandemic (actually private schools are open but public schools are closed, that's nice isn't it? 🤔). It's brutal for both the kids and parents here. I meet up with the most rebellious skater kids on the streets of SF, the types of kids that were like me and hated school... they all uniformly say how much they want to go to school now and how they feel like their lives are on pause. I don't have all the answers guys and I'm not pretending to. I just wanted to show you what I saw and also document this moment in history, to ask some of the questions I think we all want answers to. Also, I really want to get in with some frontline workers in L.A. so if any of you know someone working on the frontline of this pandemic in L.A. please contact me at: contact@petersantenello.com

The public school closure in SF has caused a lot of grief and is unnecessary. SF has a substantial private and parochial school population and those schools are open. The teachers union and other unions associated with the school district have prevented the schools from reopening. Their resistance is based on fear and a lack of science. The mayor of SF London Breed sued the district to reopen and the unions agreed to a reopening plan two days later. It will take a while before the plan is actually implemented, though.

I've been in Florida for about a week now from New York City, and it's such a difference down here compared to the Big Apple. That’s fascinating Peter. I’m from the uk and we are currently in a Californian style lockdown (only allowed to leave home for exercise and medical help or food). Interestingly Sweden has adopted a much more liberal approach to restrictions similar to Florida and the have a similar death rate to the uk with very tough restrictions. Personally I think this boils down to people taking precautions based on their own risk factors. Great content and keep up the good work!

Nopw, Sweden doesn't have any counts like the UK
@seandoherty9253 жыл бұрын
UK population density much higher than Sweden. A better comparison would be Sweden with other Nordic countries like Norway , Denmark and Finland that have similar population density. That comparison showed Swedish approach failed big time. I admire Peter's channel, but think his comparisons of Florida and California figures need to be treated with caution. Florida has a huge population of tourists as we can see from this video. Are many of the cases contracted returning to other states where they infect older more vulnerable people but only showing on those other states statistics? Also how accurate are Florida's statistics? Many accusations in the first wave that as Fl's statistics exploded the governor had recording methods altered to read the way he'd prefer them to look.
@charlielawson1373 жыл бұрын
@@seandoherty925 indeed probably better to compare the uk with France or Italy in terms of population density. I’m not anti lockdown in any way but there are incredibly damaging for young people especially. Not sure we will every be able to compare who did well and what the right approach was as the end of the pandemic as every country records statistics so differently and it gets political too. Leaving the health aspect to one side this video really shows how damaging lockdowns are to people’s well-being. Also I think the uk is at a disadvantage also due to the country being relatively small as well as dense in terms of population.
@kw21423 жыл бұрын
So Sweden has had a very different approach to Florida. Yes it's not been in total lockdown like UK but has very different culture to Florida. It also has a strong welfare state funding or health benefits for people who get covid. Not sure it's best comparison tbh.

@@charlielawson137 agree with everything you said apart from when u said UK is at a disadvantage. It's an island which is a huge advantage compared to say France or Germany. @my home thanks! Miami is also pretty densely populated, but I understand, it's not the same (I'm not in Miami BTW :)). My wife cried every day, because she felt like a failure, kids weren't getting the education they needed and there were a number of occasions the teachers were so frustrated they were literally crying. The kids still keep in touch with family/friends on Messenger kids and online games, but they also go outside and ride their bikes, play with friends, play in the pool, go to each others houses. My son plays tennis and daughter is a competitive gymnast. We go to events, restaurants, shopping... it's just WAY more normal and I'm willing to sacrifice wearing a mask for that. We've lived through the shutdown in New England, although parts of California look worse (have friends in Cali). This is much better. As a Floridian, obviously who runs your state is important. I'm independent but the stark difference from blue states to red states is undeniable unless your so bias you ignore facts. Also, we are dealing with Covid better because being open for so long we realized that the lockdowns don't work and only cause more economic and health problems. So the longer we are open the more we want to stay free and learn what works. Having the government or nongovernmental entities figure this out never works, you think people would know this. Exactly. Peter said this isn’t political. It absolutely is! There is more to the shut downs than just Covid. As we can see from states that have not shut down vs those that are currently shut down. There isn’t much difference in Covid transmissions or death rates. But our businesses are suffering, people are suffering. Our children are suffering! This is about crippling our economy, our middle class. Make us more dependent on the government. Making way to a socialist/communist government. @@TheHealthyAmericanPeggyHall yes, you are correct, there are mask requirements but the attitude towards them there is more open. For example, when I was in Cape Cod, the peer pressure to wear a mask was super high. Even while in public, very open spaces whereas when I was in Tampa, Florida , the pressure is no pressure. Everyone for the most part wears their mask to the grocery store and like places. The lack of peer pressure is priceless.

This video makes me feel like im living in a third world country when i'm currently living in NYC. I forgot what life and people used to look like before the lockdowns. Hopefully we can end the pandemic this year.

9 months since you wrote this and NYC is now 100 times worse ironically and has turned into a two tiered city. What happened to the strong New York spirit that it turned out like this?

The only way to end the pandemic was to stop listening to the news and stand up against your stupid servants that think they control you

Thank you so much Peter! This video made me feel human again, and so homesick for it too!! Been living in Zürich in Lockdown since the Pandemic started and just want to be free again and sit at a restaurant with my friends and family! Travel and see family! Etc. Love your work! Keep it up!
