I loved hearing this and found it very relatable. That was definitely one hell of a way to put my feelings about this game into words. During my first 2 wipes, every single dogtag meant everything to me. Simply by double clicking it and seeing the name and the weapon allowed me to recall the whole memory as well as the pure satisfaction of getting the kill. That was one of the reasons why I found it difficult to swap out dogtags for quests or item barters.

as someone who has poured hundreds of hours into the souls games, im never really a fan of the “dark souls of x” comparisons. However I think tarkov has similarities to the core design; starting with almost nothing, facing what might feel like impossible odds, and the incredibly rewarding feeling of overcoming those odds. it is a feeling that is rarely replicated quite like a souls title, but tarkov comes very close. great video!

This is a good mindset and depth of what goals tarkov sets out. It's not trying to be fun but a challenge, sure it's not going to be perfect but has a much clearer goal than what most modern games have.
@Gyyghhhhjjjkk6 ай бұрын
thats what almost modern games had but their process at making it failed horribly. Tarkov's development's progression can only be described as a rollercoaster ride. There ain't really a time that the game really had a truly astonishing update but most times it was either mediocre or straight up dumpster fire
@blahblahgdp6 ай бұрын
The real challenge is the game working together for the 30% of times so its an actual challenge, not a fake one
@Mythicalgoon6 ай бұрын
Nah it's a false concept imo, the challenge itself should be fun. When designing a game start with fun then if you're goal is a challenging game then keep tweaking it to be more challenging but NEVER say you're balancing around it not being fun. A great example is to look at dark souls 1 vs their later entries. They've managed to retain the challenge of their games while simultaneously making them more fun because at the end of the day you play games for enjoyment. Tarkov has an issue in where they're much to afraid to innovate because they don't truly understand what makes their game fun so they don't know what they can or can't change. Dark souls/from software is the complete opposite.

If Arena was intended to be fun I don't think BSG knows how to make a fun game
@justicegambino42076 ай бұрын
While I agree with you overall, ultimately think the dichotomy of fun and rewarding isn’t a necessary one. BSG could, and I think do continue to try, to make the game more fun, but they’ve only done so with mixed results. Some aspects of the game make it inherently less enjoyable while also adding little to no long-term benefit like the game’s horrible menu UI. They’ve fixed that a little in recent wipes, but they’ve also made the game needlessly more favorable to players who do nothing but grind the game with the introduction of inertia and their recent weapon/recoil balance choices. Considering I spent over $100 on this game, I feel like I can expect BSG to give me a product where the guy who does nothing but play this game like LVNDMARK can’t just hop around the map like a bunny and then beam me with massive assault rifle. It makes me feel like I’m playing Tarkov, but he gets to play Call of Duty. He gets to have fun because he plays this game exclusively, but I can’t be rewarded for any skill I do have simply because I have other interests that take up my time. Because of this, I no longer enjoy playing Tarkov; I just watch videos like yours instead. Perhaps I should’ve just paid you my $120 instead 😭

@yonose71146 ай бұрын
Being good at movement is part of the game and the challenge. I agree they shouldn’t have changed it so drastically but it is what it is now and if you don’t want to get slammed constantly tarkov demands a lot of hours for improving game sense, mechanical skill, and just getting better gear.

Loved this new video. I've been telling people for ages that I think when people use the word realistic they are more talking about immersive. One of the biggest flaws I find with survival-esque games is that they think lore is just story. But a good "realistic" or "immersive" game has explanations for game mechanics and allow people to build up an expectation of how the world works. Which is lore just as much as background story elements. Loved this video.

Unfortunately for me, my computer is unable to handle Tarkov's unoptimized game at the current moment, so I find it hard to fully enjoy this game when I feel like I have a disadvantage significantly more than the average player, and I'm also not able to access some maps due to the performance hinderance. It depends on what you find fun. I would say yes tarkov is very fun, like how dark souls games are fun. It’s the overcoming of challenges and the reward factor and the experience that’s fun. Tarkov doesn’t need heavily scripted events because it’s a game like no other, interacting with players in tarkov is deferent then any other game. It almost feels real. I find airsoft fun, I find Milsims fun, I find re-enactments fun, because of the experience. And tarkov feels very much the same. The freedom in tarkov is crazy, yet it’s the kind of freedom where you still have a goal. The grind is real, the tension is real, the fear is real, the joy is real and the fun you have with friends in tarkov is like nothing you will find in any other game. And that’s why I love it and do find it fun. Just like how working out is fun
@harvington21395 ай бұрын
See tarkov and dark souls sre very different. In dark souls you die its your fault you can fix it. In tarkov the game is designed to fuck you over. Want to get this task done break your arm first then do it, want to. Get a scope well GL either finding it or doing 20 raids and getting lucky you arent being hacked on. Devs dont promote healthy or good gameplay loops but rather a unhealthy unfun unrewarding gameplay that has killed the game. Accord to the tarkov discord this wipe had thw fewest amount of new players and sales due to. Constent hackers and poor task design. There is a reason this game has a zero refund policy because they know you will quit and this is nothing more then. Who has the better gaming chair ( aka cheats) and who hates their life the most because nothing you do matters. When the devs dont even care or like you. Shit game, shit community, shit devs.

I've always thought of Squad similarly to this. So many people say it's not fun and you just get shot without knowing where its coming from. But I always tell them it's not meant to be fun, its meant to be satisfying. Theres no levels, stats, killcams, rewards, you're just there for the satisfaction of playing and working together with others. The best games are when you communicate well and get creative, not when you win or get a bunch of kills. Some of my favorite matches were losses with a lot of deaths when we were doing creative kills or playing defensively/tactically.

I think one thing that would massively make Tarkov more enjoyable, would be that tasks are completed regardless of whether you die or not. Often the time this game makes me tired and fed up is having to replay trying to complete a difficult task again and again. I do everything right to get a task item and to extract avoiding all confrontation only to die by a ridiculous AI scav 100m away one tapping me. I like the idea of being better than others, more capeable to adapt to the circumstances, reading the situation better and reacting in smarter ways. And Tarkov offers this in the very immersive enviroment of armed man-on-man combat. The ultimate test of survival of the fittest.

Games are FUN when you get to experience a power fantasy. When you spend a third of your allotted gaming time in loading screens, just to get sent into a loading screen 5 minutes after loading in, this kills any amount of joy I might experience.

I think the new update and wipe really made tarkov feel fun again, it kept the hardcore aspect but made recoil way less rng based. And getting a kill or getting killed doesn't feel as bs anymore.

Once they remove the mechanic of certain bullets being garbage and others being OP. Then it’s a fun realistic game. If not then it’s just like a rpg game. If you don’t got the best bullet kind for your weapon then even if you load someone with a full clip, they won’t die. Whereas if they have the best bullets you one shot thru the best gear.

@@ieatgrass108bad bullets are better now because of the armour changes. Armour only blocks damage if the physical model covers it. That means there’s gaps in the armpits and thorax areas where a bad bullet could one tap. Also the made high pen ammo way harder to get. For example you cant even buy m855a1 anywhere. So this wipe armour is more effective (less high pen) but also bad bullets are better (more exposed hit boxes)

The bold title made me hesitant to even click on the video, but after finishing it all the points made sense, and the quality of the video was great so good job.

I think the core mechanics and gameplay is indeed fun. However.... Because I work full-time and only have so many hours to play I end up being forced into a 2 month quest sprint cycle that is NOT FUN AT ALL.
