I was camping once, and there was a cougar hanging around my camp. I think it was a middle aged female, and she was pretty aggressive, so I had to calm her down with a few drinks. She finally left around 730AM.

Wolves can be dangerous. However much you love wolves, and they are beautiful, never forget they are also wild and dangerous animals in general. We live in SE Alaska, nearly 50 years we lived in the wilderness and had many experiences with wolves. My Dad and brothers were treed by a pack of wolves. We once had a pack circle our house and howl for hours. We didn't think they were after us, but rather our dogs and they took out many over the years. One time I saw us being checked out by a big wolf who didn't harm us but we were always being scouted and in potential. My husband and daughter were on a nearby beach one day when a wolf came for them, he ran steadily toward them. My kid kept screaming for her Dad to shoot him.... But he allowed time for the wolf to veer off but it kept charging closer, so he finally shot it as they seemed in dire danger. And yes, these situations (& others we experienced) might have been read wrong, you never know, but at the same time it is a choice you're forced to make... Protect your child's life for instance, or wait and see. Just sayin'.... Keep in mind the dangers, or you might just vanish....

Some Trappers and Outdoorsman venturing into the deep wilderness of Alaska have been documented as missing in the annals of history. These disappearances happened in Alaskan frontier areas seldom traveled by humans AND inhabited by Wolves. Evidence found in some of these early disappearances clearly indicated predation by wolves. I appreciate wolves, and other wild animals in their natural habitat, but your comments are not only naive but foolish. The man in the video knew this and was wise to take the precautions by staying in the tree hut. The fact is that wild animals that rely on meat for their diet and for survival, when hungry enough,will consume what's available. A lone person is no exception for a wolf pack when hunger pangs threaten their survival.

The content of your vid is great - real outdoors work - no BS, except for your title - you were never once threatened by Wolves - they howled - well off in the distance and you made no move to run and showed no fear. The myth that wolves attack humans is much exaggerated - The fact that you have wolves present makes the outdoor area in which you have built this structure - truly wilderness. I simply worry that people will perpetuate the BS that wolves are the bad guys which in turn will cause the senseless slaughter of a species which we ourselves invited into our homes thousands of years ago. Wild dogs, not Wolves, are what people need to be aware of. We are not on the wolves menu - they can sense our presence from a great distance and will avoid us if at all possible. Dogs; however, have no inherent fear of humans and will run us down if they feel we have something to offer them. This information did not come from a book, it came from 63 years of living in the woods. I apologize for the short rant - your vids are great, you have no need to attract more views by using titles which exaggerate the truth.
@nygelmiller52936 ай бұрын
To Hawksshadow. Don't be fooled into thinking ALL of one species reacts in one way! Not Wolves, not Bears, not ANYTHING! I saw a tv programme about an observation station in Alaska. A man routinely went for a walk outside the station, early evenings. Wolves had been attracted to smells of waste food that the people put out in a bin. Then they thought they would try for some PEOPLE as their food! (Perhaps there, there wasn't enough food for them). So the man went (alone) for his usual walk. BUT NEVER CAME BACK. A wolf attacked him by biting his legs. Predators do that to people, or other animals, to disable them, in the first instance. Then, when, as a result, they can't get away - another predator will go for the FACE to kill them! They hunt in packs of at least 2! In other countries, that's what happens to zebras! Obviously there WEREN'T any wolves nearby in this video. DANGEROUS to be in these places ON YOUR OWN.
@RGWrighthawks6 ай бұрын
@@nygelmiller5293 Hello - When speaking of wolves, they received their "bad reputation" during the time of the great battles in Europe. The armies would obliterate all food sources as they marched through the countryside. The battles were fought, men lay dying and dead all over the field. Wolves, having no choice, used those humans as a food source. I have been in the wild places for my entire life - 63 years. Places where Black bears and wolves live. I have never been remotely challenged or threatened by any animal other than human. I have studied wolves for 40 years and am well aware of the kill technique. If a wolf wants to kill a human, the human would have no chance. I worry about the perpetuation of B.S. when it comes to wolf and for that matter bear attacks. Other than rabies, there is no attack in my part of the world that has not been provoked by the human. We are loosing this apex predator at an alarming rate - if it goes, so does the wild. The wolf is the animal which keeps all others in check. I do wander alone, deep in the woods where wolves live and I wander in the security that I know my place and that I, as a human, am not on the menu. I thank you for the response. Dialogue such as this is important in this world of sensationalism.

Bear, boar, cougar ... I always wonder what folks are thinking in their tents. This is the smartest setup yet. A retractable ladder or a pully to raise it up a few feet would make it even better. When critters smell your supper you dont wantm showing up at that door in the floor. A bear would push itself in for sure. Hinged in the middle so you pull it there with a draw pully. The lower half would dangle. No critter could do it. This is imo the best startup for off grid. Bear can get into any vehicle. We've seen them pull windows out. So glad this guy mentions wolves coz lots of folks have notions they wont eat you.'

@terry970 Hi, Terry. Personally, I'm fascinated by bears - but only with the FRIENDLY ONES! But wolves, certainly CAN stalk victims - they aren't just DOGS! AGAIN , you have see what induvidual ones are LIKE. A woman had (on TV), what I thought were huskies, that pulled a sledge. Whether they would be alright with anyone ELSE, is another matter. I saw a TV programme, where there was some sort of outpost in Alaska. A worker used to go for a walk before it got dark. (Alone!). MISTAKE!Because wolves had been attracted to the smell of left over scraps of meat the people at the observation station used to put in a bin outside. This person went for their usual late afternoon walk, and wolves were waiting. They encircled the poor victim. They used the same method lions use, when preying on zebras. That is, one goes for the victim's LEGS. Obviously, they won't be able to get away, if they have injured legs! This brings the victim down, and then they finish them off! Enjoy your fascination for wolves - AT HOME, watching TV, or watching videos on the internet on a computer, or a phone!

With all that work and your hut is so cool I’d at least make a long weekend out of it. Steak, potato’s, some beer, bottle of Jack and 45-70 guide gun all you’ll need. Sweet dreams while listening to the howls outside.

If you need to put your wooden CABIN up a 15' treestand, the only wolves you might want to protect yourself from would be werewolves !!

Dimi, where was your brush/broom? I am surprised you didn’t make one from tree branches LOL. I love the different and odd places you find to camp. They make your videos interesting to watch. Happy new year!

The scariest thing in this vid is the tree hut. I would not trust that ladder to now break a leg and then you would really have a problem. Not very warm as a lot of the snow is still on the floor and the melted areas must be pretty wet. All in all just poor planning whoever built this and left it to rot with all the window holes open. But it gets views to the vid so there's that.
@1ouncebird10 ай бұрын
@friarfxz: Also the supports for the hut had a definite "lean" to them which made it appear a bit scary. None the less this was a fun video to watch.

Just a suggestion, if you stay there again, throw a piece of line out the window, put your wood in your bag and haul it up through the window. Easier than carrying it up a ladder, same with snow for water.

I know, we’ll wait until dark to gather wood.
@SwampHodag10 ай бұрын
I live surrounded by wolves and have camped with a quarter a mile from a wolf killed deer. They only inspire fear in those who know nothing about them. Waiting until dark to gather wood is only silly because you can't see, not because you're going to get eaten.
@jayoneill153310 ай бұрын
My point exactly, how can you efficiently process wood when you can’t see?
