Escape the Heat of Las Vegas at Pine Valley Reservoir, UT

The Pine Valley Recreation Area, located in scenic Pine Valley, Utah, has an elevation of 6,900 feet, and offers a cool escape from the heat of the southern Utah desert. The area does have a vehicle entrance fee of $6.00, which begins on May 1. Visitors enjoy a variety of activities here, including:
* Camping: The recreation area has several campgrounds with sites for tents, trailers, RVs, and even horses. Some of the campgrounds are Crackfoot Campground, Dean Gardner Campground, Ebenezer Bryce Campground,Equestrian Campground, and Mitt Moody Campground. There's also group camping available at Effie Beckstrom East Group Campground and Effie Beckstrom West Group Campground.
* Fishing: The Pine Valley Reservoir is a great spot for fishing for trout, bass, and catfish.
* Hiking: There are several trails in the area for hiking, including the Brown's Point Trail, Equestrian Trail, Whipple Trail, Pine Valley Canal Trail, and the Gardner Peak Trail.
* Picnicking: There are several picnic areas throughout the recreation area, perfect for a relaxing lunch or dinner outdoors.
* Swimming and boating are not allowed in the reservoir.

You can escape the heat of Las Vegas on Mt. Charleston, it's 11,000 feet high and less than an hour away.

You’re absolutely right! Last May/June I hiked up the south side. All in all it was about 21 miles! I have a video, but I think it’d be a bit boring. I think the peak is like 11,900 feet!
