After my recent 3 week stay (5th trip) to Jamaica I fully agree. I did not make it to South coast or Kingston......LOVED Portland and St Thomas. My mind is dreaming of relocation. My pick is Portland. Loved Port Antonio.....As a white tourist I liked how I was treated there.....like anyone else.....I felt I blended in more easily. The green lushness, hummingbirds, lagoons, and night sounds including frogs I miss of Portland. Definitely would return to airbnb run by Irina.....CALYPSO. ( Montego Bay area) Gorgeous ocean front. As a born and bred Kingstonian, I declare that Portland, my beloved Portie, the best Parish in Jamaica. On the island of Jamaica Portland is King. I have exiled myself from Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, it is just not for me. I must admit have not explored Treasure Beach much but I will change that. I use St. Bess as a past through parish.. BUT will def explore it.

I keep saying that Portland should develop to a city and forget about Portmore become a parish. Instead, merge Portmore into Kingston and name it Kingston Portmore. I think it would make sense. Extend and develop Instead of creating more parish for a small island. Build more infrastructure in Portland and make it a city. Because there's no city in that part of Jamaica.

Informative video as usual, Irina! What you said about St. Mary being underrated reminded me of recent news that scheduled international flights from Miami will be coming in to the Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St. Mary ... flight number 007. The marketing often mentions Ocho Rios and you'll sometimes see residents comment that the airport is REALLY in St. Mary. Indeed, it's named after Ian Fleming - of James Bond fame - because he had a place in Oracabessa (Firefly) ... which is also in St. Mary. But, of course, the marketing talks up "Ochie" because it's well known already. As a Jamaican, I have extremely fond memories of visiting a place on the St. Mary coast (between Annotto Bay and Port Maria where the main road doesn't follow the sea) as a child. I was enthralled by the beauty of the place and the warmth of the folks my parents had gone to visit. It felt like paradise, and I'd lived in Jamaica all my life up to then. I always loved the view of Port Maria Bay with the little islet, but I must agree that Portland is a very picturesque and special part of the island. There was another childhood trip up the Rio Grande valley where we waded in the water and had "bussu" soup. At the time, I didn't even know bussu was a kind river snail, lol, but the soup was delicious. Anyway, glad to see you again Irie ... when I see a new video I click! All the best and take care!
@JAMAICAWITHIRIE2 жыл бұрын
I think St.Mary and Oracabessa as well as Port Maria are suffering the same problem as Trelawny and Falmouth. I always get annoyed when people advertise Martha Brae Rafting and Luminous Lagoon as "Montego Bay Experience" even though it's Falmouth experience! And yet, here I am doing it as well in this video to feed KZbin algorithm 🙄. This is because people heard of Montego Bay a lot and heard nothing about Falmouth. The same is relevant for St.Mary. Even "Oracabessa" is advertised as "Ocho Rios" and that's why I pictured James Bond Beach as an example of beaches accessible from Ocho Rios, even though James Bond Beach is not in Ocho Rios. Sure, I can make a video to highlight each parish, but these videos won't gain much views, unless they include the "key tourist town". I'll still try :)
@jamessexton45062 жыл бұрын
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE I once saw a tripadvisor review from a Japanese guest who had stayed in Ocho Rios who said she thought Jamaica was "Montego Bay only"! So I understand why you may have to break it to guests that they can't get somewhere else from "here" in less than a few hours travel! [Also correction: Firefly was actually Noel Coward's place even though Ian Fleming had a plce nearby too. I always get that confused.]
@trevorsteer73312 жыл бұрын
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE , honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about referencing the NAMES of "known areas" when talking about OTHER areas close by....at least you are HIGHLIGHTING those other areas. Plus, people in general mention "known names" when they talk about other places. For example, you meet someone while travelling, who is from the the STATE of MICHIGAN, and ask where they are from, their answer "DETROIT"....even if they live hundreds of miles away.

Excellent video contents, my coworkers are planning their vacation to Jamaica later this year, so I’ll definitely will be sharing this video with them. Thanks for sharing so much good information, although I’m Jamaican, honestly, I don’t know a lot about Jamaica like you Irie, even though I’ve been to quite a few of the places you’ve highlighted. I love what you’re doing, excellent journalism ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🇱🇷🇯🇲

It's funny, some of the places Irina said were too far to travel to I actually did those trips from Montego Bay. There were some long drives and we were out for the whole day but it was well worth it.
