Your little boy is adorable. Kudos to you for exposing him to all of the beauty of nature! He will never forget these memories as he matures. As a Californian I am so pleased that you enjoyed your time in our beautiful state!

Beautiful video. I grew up in Humboldt County (Arcata) and left after high school. 14 years of living in Texas makes you appreciate what a special area this is.

I just love your videos, Rob. You have actually gotten me back into Overlanding a while back when you were just starting out in the 4-Runner. Your boy is such a bundle of joy!!! We actually just got back last week from virtually the same trip you just did here. We too left to the coast from our San Joaquin Valley home to escape the heat. Are you still out and about in California and what are your next stops?

This area is my back yard. I try to get to the Ave of the Giants every few months. It is as breathtaking as you say. I really admire the trip with your kid. unfortunately a lot of fathers would rather watch sports or go out to a bar then to include their kids. You are doing great.

Wife and I were camping nearby - Willow Creek, a few weeks ago and it really was hot in the mountains and cool down at the coast, specially around the Elk Prairie Redwood Park. Beautiful area to hike and camp. Can wait to get back! As always, great video!

Love the videos. As an ex wildcard firefighter, I can tell anyone thinking of going to this region that you need to be careful. At a minimum, let people know where you're going and haveva cell phone booster. Nor Cal is a serious Marijuana growing area with Meth heads sprinkled in. Cartels operate there too. I saw it first hand and it's not uncommon for people to simply go missing. Its not crazy dangerous, but don't just go driving down random dirt roads.

Interesting. I wouldn’t have thought it, but I could see how you could get away with it in some of those areas.

I do, but it takes up so much space that I left it at home. I definitely wished I had it on this trip.

I think they picked up a month or two after I was in the area. I can see how easily they spread based on how dry it was though!

Loving your observation that the heat on the ridge is so much worse than on the coast and that doesn't make sense. As a long time resident of the coast of Northern California it certainly can be confusing. Our house near the bluff can be 30-40 degrees cooler than a mile inland along the coastal range. Especially in the fall when we typically get offshore breezes or no breeze at all.
