I think that Dang Thai Son is the best Chopin player. No wonder Liu was the first prize winner of the most recent Chopin competition.

The hard work in communicating so much that is beyond words … Bruce’s patience to catch the gems in different levels of glittering and dying off …even the sad reflective nostalgia of nothing, of petering out after the most stupendous storms of human emotions and states that Chopin’s genius IS able to capture for us… is a great example of learning attitude…recognising, despite everything, Dang Thai Son’s Eurasian background has helped him internalise the more unusual deep, almost numbed reflective states in the turmoil of Chopin’s short but intensely lived …’almost aristocratic ‘ life.

We agree with Mr. Dang Thai Son in many things:-) When I first listened to Bruce's production in this video, I already had a few words of critique (if one should even attempt at this in his case of course - but I guess in July this ballade was not yet fully expressed, as simple as that) , and I'm glad to hear the same impressions and words of wisdom from one of the best chopinists in the world!

Prof Dang's French is better than his English, albeit with a Vietnamese accent. He finds it more natural too. French is also Bruce's first language, although he also speaks Chinese like a native. Interestingly, he speaks standard French, not a trace of Quebecois.
@peterlo91232 жыл бұрын
@@JaseBach Totally agree with you., I think they speak "Français Québécois" daily. It’s also interesting for Chopin spoke “Français Parisien “. That’s why I think Liu and his pro Dang (Dang’s mom can speak French too) played so amazing and so naturally in Chopin’s musical phrasing.

extremely talented pianist, but it's kind of broken that the literal teacher of two prize winners in this year's competition was also allowed to be on the jury...
@liisaimmonen97652 жыл бұрын
It's quite common in the Chopin competition where the world's most renowned Chopin-specialists and former Chopin-competition winners are invited to the jury. The rules are carefully executed to avoid any bias, and the jurors don't score their own students. Of course some jury member could have so much authority on the other jury members that they would not dare to give low scores to his/her student, but I seriously doubt if that would happen in a large scale anyway.
@jondoe95962 жыл бұрын
Jurors are not allowed to give scores to their student during the competition. There were other finalists that also have jurors as their teachers as well.
@julkiewicz2 жыл бұрын
@@jondoe9596 It is inevitable. Otherwise the only people allowed to judge would be high school piano teachers. Almost every talented pianist teacher has talented students in this competition.
I don't agree with you at all!There's a great gap between Bruce and the 2nd prize winner, in terms of artistic taste and techniques, also the charisma of performance. Bruce is absolutely outstanding and far better than the one you mentioned!!
Chopin institute said Bruce received the highest score in the history of the competition. And 2021 has the deepest field in history.
