My heart goes out to you. I have just had the same problem with a Jaguar XE. I had the engine bored out to +.5 mm and fitted oversized pistons. I did 60 miles and seized solid. Getting the torque converter of is a real task. I have not got the car back on the road yet.
@Escygt7 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that. Do you know why it seized?
@neilhampson28437 ай бұрын
@@Escygt No, not really. the crankshaft had picked up on one of the big end bearings and sheared off the big end cap. The carnage was quite impressive. I bought a used engine from Sheffield ,which I bought with a supposed failed timing chain. This was not the case. The pistons had burned/melted in cylinders 2 and 3. Timing chain was perfect. Its back in the car and I will try to get it going next week. I am not sure why these engines are so unreliable.

Hey, nice to see you got it sorted in the end hope you get to keep and enjoy it. Its a shame as you put it, the car is great in any other way. I got a XF with the same engine, got it at 97k miles and at 123k I`ve changed the timing chain as I was worried it will go. Got it replaced with the newer version but after 3k miles later I started hearing a knock. If my engine fails I would like to replace it as the car its amazing. Shame they can`t make a proper engine or buy one off someone who knows how to make it. I wish you no more events with it.

@@ZacIonut I wonder what the quality is like though? They aren't great from JLR so how good are they with Chinese cranks, rods and pistons in?
@ZacIonut4 ай бұрын
@@Escygt the reason I got the car was that I set up the steering wheel production line (the plastic bits) and JLR were a real pain in the ass for quality, like really not even Mercedes or lambo were this picky. (our customer was Takata not JLR). So in my ignorance I assumed jlr were as picky with everything when it comes to their parts and god was I wrong. I think the Chinese make the parts just as good (in covid times there was a lot of jlr parts being imported of China as the EU supply chain stopped) as the EU do, but they are Chinese so I don't know.. There seems to be a lot of off brand things made for Jags in China like front grills, upgrade buttons for the steering wheels and front lights from the face-lift (2021+) but made to work on the preface lift. This indicates they have a big market for them.

It could have been your injector spray pattern not been correct or incorrect piston clearance, that's a lot of heat to do that

Someone suggested this so I had the injectors tested after this happened. Cylinder 1 failed the test because of too much fuel return which means it would have been lean rather than rich so I'm not sure if this would have been a factor or not

@@ismaelbakais8598 you need do remove the driveshafts but you can leave the diff bolted on the sump. Best bet is to wrap a chain / rope all the way around the engine, I used the hook on the back of the head and a bolt where the charge cooler fits the first time, it was fine but the second time I removed the engine, the casting broke on the head and the bracket pulled out.
