I Love what you do also something kind of funny is that historically European practitioners of exorcism were also considered necromancers. The binding or expelling of spirits is necromancy in that world view. Not too many people take interest in this stuff from a scholarly perspective it is nice to see someone else who is interested in it from that perspective.

After first hearing your suggestion that most grimoires presuppose a Catholic, Latinate audience - it seems blindingly obvious that their readership was clerical. As one of Darwin's contemporaries said about his evolutionary theory - 'How did I not see this before?'

I just love how sophisticated and promoting of intellectualism this channel is. We don't have this in Florida, especially not in South Florida. So wonderful to find a place that encourages philosophical and theological thinking. I am frustrated how mediocre and incompetent academia has turned out in the last 20 years where I live. Anyways keep promoting and encouraging intellectualism and academic studies. We need this!!! We need to stop being afraid of knowledge, especially powerful knowledge that can make living more fascinating and interesting.

Christian monks translated and recorded essentially all the western and middle eastern works that survive, its natural that in this flow of knowledge some were seduced by dark magic out of curiosity which is no different than modernity where you can download a pdf of a grimoire and some people do.

I am in awe at your erudition. If I may, two small corrections in the pronunciation of two Italian words I heard in your videos, both referring to the position of the stress on the correct syllable: , not (stress on the third from last -- if you are familiar with ancient Greek, it's a Proparoxytone word). The same goes for (you mentioned Paul of in another video. WIth my best wishes for your excellent scholarly work.

Its Catholic nature reminds me of the "Liber Juratus Honorii" or Sworn Book of Honorius. But I'm sure people in the 1400s were still mystified by tales of the Templars a hundred years prior, who were arrested on charges of being involved with some kind of heresy. The allegorical tale at the beginning of Honorius even has a striking similarity to the Templar's demise.

Speaking about weird coincidences... I was trying to read and translate the spirit catalogue found in the Fasciculus Rerum Geomanticarum of the Biblioteca Laurenziana in Firenze since it's freely available for online consultation or download in PDF format (because I'm studying the goetic and solomonic tradition and I'm trying to "connect" the different catalogues of Spirits in the various grimoires)... And your next video it's on that same book. That's pretty weird.

1) why are you studying it? 2) how would a person go about beginning to research this topic? I ask because it sounds interesting.
@YuriAbietti
@YuriAbietti Жыл бұрын
@@owenleal I'm studying it because I'm a practicing ceremonial/chaos magician and I practiced goetic magick before. But I'm also curious and very interested in the history and the academic interpretation of the various grimoires of this tradition. About beginning to research goetic magick, there are a lot of interesting books about it, both on the more practical side and with a more critical and historical perspective. I would recommend the Illustrated Goetia by Lon Mylo DuQuette and any books by the late Jake Stratton-Kent, dr. Stephen Skinner or Joseph H. Peterson (among others) :)

Fascinating I think that my only readings on this matter is Arthur Edward Waite's Book of Black Magic and Pacts and Abra Melin the Mage possibly modified by Samuel Macgregor Mathers.It seemed to me ,at the time,to be rather convoluted superstitious nonsense although the Abra Melin system clearly has the aim,seen sort of through the lense of Jungian psychology,of isolating and developing the higher self.sadly my Latin is very basic and I am reminded of what Israel Regardie said what he wanted if he was reincarnated 'good parents and a classical education'.

The only contemporary religion I know of that has self identified as necromancers is Paol Maymebyy, a very secretive Afro-Cuba practice. Recently, a practitioner has been making youtube channels. He still doesn't spill much, but it is the only material I know of in English about Palo Maybey (in Cuba called "Renia de Paulo" that is not written by people who don't practice it and are usually hostile to it. And he said:"we are necromancers. We worship the dead."

I’m not judging you :) I watched a video of a Priest speaking about exorcism. From what I understood, he said speaking with the dead was a form of necromancy and this could be one reason why some people have become possessed. I have watched ghost hunting shows and had some strange activity in my home afterwards. It could have just been an overactive imagination, but I don’t want to test God. However, my daughter was born able to see weird things. I don’t know what to call them. Why can she see them? Does this mean that people who can see them are damned? I’m hoping not. My daughter has touched an object in the past and received psychic images in her mind of the person who owned it. (Confirmed because it was my ex-boyfriends mother’s tiny book. She had never seen her before). I know there’s a medium that does ghost hunting. She has always been able to see them too. She prays a lot on her KZbin shows. She uses the power of Christ to make them leave her alone. I don’t want to view her videos if this is spiritually wrong for me to do this. So, I don’t think you are weird. I’m not judging you. I appreciate the extra information on these topics.
@darrylviljoen6227
@darrylviljoen6227 Жыл бұрын
Necromancy is the summoning of the dead, not just speaking with them. That priest may have misspoke or not completely understood what he was talking about. I highly doubt they do detailed class on necromancy in seminary school. Your daughter is in the clear, some people are just more sensitive to that sort of stuff. I don't envy her and wish her all the best. Edit: also alot of those ghost hunting shows and KZbinrs are just for the drama, few if any are real.
