I bought a little baby guitar! It's an ESP made mini LP with a built in speaker in the neck hum bucker position. It was pretty crusty and rusty though so I gave it a clean up with this kit: amzn.to/2KPAf3t

GR for GrassRoots, not CJR 🤦🏻‍♂️ Also Edwards are Japan made, Japan only guitars, very good Anne basically as good as an ESP Standard. GrassRoots are Korean made (mostly), Japan only guitars, that act as the cheaper version of Edwards. It's not just a rebrand.

Trogly is terrible. He's a collector first & foremost and the extent of his expertise is limited to arguably the least desirable period of Gibson guitars. Exudes strong boomer energy by showing off his new acquisitions to flip on Reverb to absolute rubes.

You can't give a proper operating electrical item to much current. It only draws as much as it was designed for. These little LPs are pretty cool, but I can't believe how much they go for.

In the future you should cram in the fuzz circuit from a Pignose and connect it to the volume. Maybe stick a Duesenberg Les Trem and some weirdo pickup on it too

I have a soft spot for sub-short scale guitars tuned to regular E. With 19"-20" scale, I use a .013"-.056" set and it works perfectly. Ernie Ball even sells a .013"-.056" set with a plain .026" G string, which feels a bit more like a cable than string. An sub-short scale and super fat strings are a recipe for ultra fat tone. Even with stratty single coils. Intonation has to be set carefully. While not common, sub-short scale guitars are not difficult to find, and often inexpensive, being (mis)marketed (IMO) as for kids. The nicest ones like these mini LPs and the (post-Hondo) Erlewine Chiquita are sweeter finds. The real holy grail is a decent steel string acoustic sub-short scale guitar. Nylon strung guitars are not hard to find in this size, usually marketed at guitaleles or 1/4 to 1/8 size classical guitars. But steel stringers....? No.

I got a used Squier mini Strat and replaced all the hardware and electronics and strung it up with heavy gauge strings and it sounded fine, but I tried it with the lightest strings I could find (.007 or .008 guage) and tuned it up to A or G standard and it sounded amazing! It became my go to guitar for funky rhythm playing.

Edwards guitar company is not a sub brand of ESP, it's a lateral domestic brand built by the ESP corporation , It is a Japan for Japan market brand. Any disparaging/diminishing opinions about the brand are largely an American phenomena based on either ignorance or conscious bias. If this were mine, I'd probably cut a new nut and set it up as a Hi6. Ymmv. Excellent vid! ✌️

Edwards models are at the very least equal in quality to the US models they seem to copy. GrassRoots stuff is always better than Epi copies. If I'm thinking of a good LP, Gibson doesn't even enter the equation.

whenever you go to polish the frets if you use 0000 steel wool you don't really have to protect the fretboard unless it's like a finished maple board or has some type of finish on it. I just always make sure my pups are covered up so little metal flakes don't get struck on them cause that can really cause some issues. That fine of wool doesn't hurt the board tho and is really good at getting extreme gunk off and the best at polishing the frets. Once you oil it when you're done you wouldn't even be able to tell you ran steel wool on it. Stew Mac also sells fret erasers that work pretty well or even pen erasers work too. Normal ones don't tho. Just gotta put a little polish on the frets when you're done if you use the erasers cause they don't shine them as well and make them kinda sticky.
@michaelcarey9359
@michaelcarey9359 4 жыл бұрын
If yer gonna use steel wool on a guitar, and you're worried about your pickups (and anything else around that WILL be affected by the dust), just put a small magnet in the middle of the steel wool. All the dust and fragments will stay in the mass of wool, not float or fall into your electronics. Science magic!

@@60CycleHumcast The challenge will likely be finding a tiny speaker that's *efficient*. A 9v powered amp like the LM386 powered Smokey amp will drive a full sized cab loud enough to thoroughly annoy everyone in the room with the ~half watt they crank out. But I have yet to find a sub 2" speaker that an satisfactorily make use of that half watt.

Speaking of odd small scale guitars, this video prompted me to look up what my very first guitar was...an early 90's Gremlin electric guitar with one humbucker, a Jackson style headstock, and a pair of translucent black knobs...I remember hating it so much because it'd never stay in tune...I then fell in love with Stevie Ray Vaughan's blues playing and just HAD to have a jumbo fret Strat (because I was 13 and impressionable) so I found myself a used Warmoth strat kit guitar at a music shop, and I still have it to this day...no clue where the Gremlin wound up at...someday I'll refinish the Strat and actually learn how to play guitar (it was roughly 27 years ago that I bought it)...
