I echo the comments below that this was one greatest rides ever seen. For me what is noticeable about it is the way that Pat, when not even fully past all his rivals puts the whip down and it's hands and heels to the finish. The supreme craft, confidence and knowledge that no horse behind (or living, probably) could have matched that finishing kick is testament to his genius. This in the richest race in the world and in age where there was no big screen to check on and considerably milder whip regulations he just guides him to the line. What a jockey, what a horse!

Recalibrated to 138. The second highest since 1977. What I would love to know, is if Bering never broke his knee in the closing of the race and somehow repelled the challenge of Dancing Brave, how highly he would have been rated, and especially compared to Frankel.
@grahammonro65004 жыл бұрын
I Detest the Comparisons between Dancing Brave and Frankel.. They are Completely Different Horses.. Dancing Brave beat Green Desert 3l in the guineas.. Frankel beat very little.. 6l yes but poor opposition.. Frankel didn't stay the 12 f classic distance.. The Brave did... Frankel ran at 4.. Dancing Brave retired at 3..who knows how good he would have been at 4... And then Dancing Braves last furlong in the Derby and Arc de Triomphe are truly Electrifying.. And this fact is mind blowing.. If the guineas of 1986 was run on 2nd May as it should have been this year, then Dancing Brave would have been a, 2 Yr old.. And would have ran in the 1986 guineas instead.. Where he would have virtually been a 4 Yr old, running in a 3 Yr olds race.. Anyway, I'm just saying that although Frankel is a Great Horse, you cannot possibly say he's definitely better than Dancing Brave.. Surely only sea Bird or Ribot or Mill reef or the Brigadier could be considered his equal or better? Bering was a very underrated Horse though.. To have him called better than Sagace, who won 2 Arcs and got disqualified, is saying something indeed..

@gordonhamilton7274 жыл бұрын
Your wrong about that......the best rated horse on the flat was SeabirdII with a rating of 145......
@grahammonro65004 жыл бұрын
As Lee SOG states..They were recalibrated in 1977..And Dancing Brave was awarded 141..How Frankel can be rated higher and Dancing Brave subsequently dropped 3lb is a DISGRACE.. Frankel couldn't get beyond a mile till he was 4..Even then, no king George or Eclipse or Arc because he didn't stay.. Dancing Brave was the Complete Racehorse.. At All Distances.. And as great as Sea Bird was.. Even he didn't run in or win his 2000 guineas..Just contemplate this.. The 2000 guineas has been moved to late May the last few years.. That means Dancing Brave would have Won his 2000 guineas as a 2 Yr old.. Let that sink in.. And he never ran at 4 like Frankel and others.. I'm not saying Dancing Brave is the Greatest of All time.. I'm 55,years old and he's the Greatest Flat Horse of my Lifetime.. All Distances considered..

@@jasonfox4857 The natural next step for many 2000 guineas winners and even the placed horses is the Derby anyway. Harwood had no more idea as to whether Dancing Brave would stay 1m4f as Cecil did as to whether Frankel would but as I said above,it's the next step, just as it has been for many 2000 guineas winners and placed horse that did not stay the Derby trip but their trainers still ran them to find out. Frankel is by Galileo, a Derby winner himself as well as the Irish Derby and King George too. He is also the sire of proven 1m4f horses too like Nathaniel, who Frankel had already beaten at a mile on their 2YO debuts and most 2YOs debut at 5f or 6f. Galileo's progeny had already or went on to show an abundance of stamina and he sired middle distance and stayers like Anthony Van Dyck (Derby winner), Australia (Derby), Cape Blanco, New Approach (Derby winner), Order Of St George (Ascot Gold Cup winner at 2m4f), Rip Van Winkle, Ruler Of The World (Derby), Sixties Icon (St Leger winner at 1m6f), Soldier Of Fortune (Irish Derby winner at 1m4f), Ulysses and Waldgeist (Arc winner at 1m4f) and numerous others too, including a Frankel full brother Noble Mission who won at 1m4f as a 3YO and needed every yard of it. I personally feel the main reasons why they did not go for the Derby with Frankel was due to how easily and far he won the 2000 guineas by, that they thought they already had the Derby horse with World Domination and because Workforce had been kept in training for the 1m2f to 1m4f races. And Eddery would have held up Dancing Brave in the Derby too, just as he did on other horses he was beaten on in the race when not yet knowing if they stayed. Starkey was a bit unlucky that year on Dancing Brave that there were 17 runners, and he had to go so wide to circle them and then DB ran down the camber rather than in a straight line.

The race was over as soon as Pat pressed go he was past them with his signature burst in the final furlong , never seen See Bird but he would have had to be a truly special horse to live with the Brave over a mile and half

I really can't understand how this sensational performance by DANCING BRAVE was ever lowered to a mark below Frankel,absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. DANCING BRAVE smashed a multiple Group 1 winning field to pieces with his sensational,lung bursting turn of foot. He made them look like the old selling class platers of old. Frankel was a very very good horse,but he only ever kept beating the same rubbish each time he ran. And to actually downgrade gim is the most bizzare and astonishing thing I have ever known. DANCING BRAVE would have quite simply made Frankel look ordinary. DANCING BRAVE won as a 3yo over distances from qm to qm 2f and 1m 4f. Frankel never even ran over 1m 4f so it's unacceptable to grade him higher than the phenomenal DANCING BRAVE.Quite simply the greatest horse that has,or will ever live.

yep Frankel mollycoddled by Cecil, never beat a decent miler, never won outside UK, never got a course record time...yet people say "Frankel the Greatest", loved watching Frankel but no way can you give rate him as good as DB or STS.

Shahrastani started 24/1 a very impressive winner of the Irish Derby, and an amazing race horse. This lad might be 7-10 lbs better than any horse Frankel beat. This is a quality field.

This comment is for all the Frankel fans who talk about the number of G1 horses he beat. That were rubbish G1 winners

One of the greatest ever to set foot on a racecourse and one that is more than proving his worth at stud - top sire Royal Ascot this year. I loved following Dancing Brave but you cannot compare the two.

@sleeplessinsale Maybe find another sport mate because you do not seem to understand horse racing that well really. Frankel beat numerous horses that were already Group 1 winners or went on to be after giving up trying to beat Frankel. The horse won at three different distances and at seven courses from his 14 races, with the reason being it was "only" seven is that horses often tend to repeat the same race schedule over different seasons. When you are the best then others come to you and Frankel beat horses from Australia, England, France, Germany, Ireland and Japan and if you mean Black Caviar when suggesting Frankel avoided her, she was a sprinter winning 5f-6f races with one win at 7f and Frankel won up to 10f, so a mile/8f would be a happy compromise if they did meet. So the sponsors of the Sussex Stakes which is at 8f upped the prize money for the race that went from £300k to £1million if both Black Caviar and Frankel ran in it. Her connections did not want to know so Frankel ran in it and won by 6 lengths, beating Farhh who himself went on to win the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at a mile the following seasons by 4 lengths, a race Frankel won himself by 5 lengths too.

@sleeplessinsale Mate is a figure of speech so since I am not your mate, I will take it that you are a Billy no mates then. Essays are required when needing to put so much right in what from you was a relatively short post, so may I congratulate you on that, as it takes a special kind of talent to do so. What did you want then, Black Caviar and Frankel to race over farther than a mile? If so Frankel would have spanked her even more, considering she only fell over the line in a stiff uphill finish over 6f at Royal Ascot against a miler dropping back. If Black Caviar had already won at 7f then an extra furlong was a more realistic distance if they were ever going to meet then, considering Frankel's sire Galileo was a 12f horse having won The Derby and Irish Derby so Frankel was unlikely to drop back to sprinting distances consider he made his debut as a two year old at a mile. Black Caviar's connections did not want to know though at a mile and not even the chance of £1million and taking Frankel's scalp was enough to convince them to have a go, yet we always hear in the UK how sporting Aussies are and up for the challenge. Oh and my opening line was in response to your embarrassing and laughable claim that Frankel avoided Black Caviar, which is quite ironic considering I also saw Aussies suggesting he was avoiding So You Think by not going up to 10f, so the horse's connections really could not win regardless of what they did.
