A lot of people appear to forget these players play the sport as a profession and are looking to make as much money as possible in their profession, just like anybody else in the workforce and in any other line of work. This judgment of players securing generational money is ridiculous. Writers talk about "legacies" and create storylines for players, coaches, and teams for their own professional reasons. All of these players are only one injury away from it all being over. I judge no player that goes after the big bags of money. Because all of these clubs will use them, pay them as cheap as possible, and spit them out ASAP whenever possible. Football is big business.

I know that Steven Bergwijn and Gini Wijnaldum are at different stages of their careers as one has won the most significant trophies at club level while the other is in his prime, but can someone remind Ronald Koeman that he’s still calling Wijnaldum up to the national team despite the fact that he’s playing his football in Saudi Arabia, I mean didn’t he give him a couple of minutes at the EUROs. Oh wait I forgot there are managers in international football who have a level of favoritism and bias towards certain players. It’s not a good thing for a player’s career that they’re going to Saudi Arabia at the age of 26 especially when they’re at an age where they’re in their prime and while players have been going there solely for the money and economic reasons, from a footballing perspective playing in the Middle East means there are players who have faded away from the European scene and not playing at the highest level could impact a player’s status in the national team which is why Koeman came out and said that his door with the national team is closed. He’s not wrong, but at the same time it’s very stupid in a sense that look at guys like N’Golo Kante and Aymeric Laporte for example who were excellent for their respective national teams at the EUROs even though they play in Saudi Arabia as going into the tournament, there were question marks as to whether or not they should’ve even been in the squad, despite all of that they proved a lot of people wrong and this is enough proof that if he’s still a good player regardless of what league he plays in, he’s still good enough for the national team.

Koeman selected also Wijnaldum for Euro 24, who plays in S-Arabie. Depay is 30 and goes for money to Brazil. But he does not exclude him. Koeman selects a lot on 'I like you' principles. I am from Holland. He knocks Bergwijn out, so he can still select Depay as second left winger behind Gakpo. That is his hidden agenda. Koeman and Depay are close to each other. Zirkzee will be the new centre striker of Holland. With backup of Weghorst. So he only can select Depay now for the left wing position. Bergwijn is better there actually. So he needed him to knock out with this BS reason.

First of all Koeman was just answering a question. Second of all ofc he has to make this statement publicly to prevent other younger Dutch players with potential and caps to make such move too early in their careers. Lastly I understand Bergwijn’s choice because he will never get the chance to earn this much money ever again.

This move doesn't really hurt Bergweijn sporting wise esp in the FFP era. He's going to be a sought after player to add to a lot of teams on a Free Transfer and most likely a more modest salary expectation.

Ale Moreno is the best pundit in Espn fc. his analysm always spot on. what all espn fc pundit have to know playing any sport professional is a 'Profession' like doctor , Lawyer etc..the players looking for a good life for themselves and their family. Franck can you give the audiance some professional who work for proud? specially Frank always says money shouldn't priority for the player tell us why they play professional football for ? the players themselves know they need to work hard to be on the top to make more money. the clubs and national team don't help them when they retired

Such hypocrisy! So, I guess Gakpo took a pay cut moving to Liverpool in exchange for better football; Van de Beek took a pay cut at Utd for better football; de Jong took a pay cut at Barça for better football. At least he actually plays. Good on Bergwijn for securing his family’s future. He won’t be missing out much anyway. This Netherlands team, especially with Koeman in charge, won’t win anything.

Koeman is absolutely wright. Bergwijn is one of the biggest talents of his generation in the Netherlands. The man is simply not as ambitious or eager such as Weghorst, Xavi Simons or Cody Gakpo. That’s his caracter and his good right, Koeman is clear about it. Dutch people are straight communicators so growup and smel the coffee, Steven.

Ronald Koeman threw a tantrum.. you don't attack someone personally for making a choice that does not have an effect on your life... this bothers too many people because the money is not coming from a European nation. His job is being a footballer not just a European league participant... let the dude go wherever he will be paid for his craft, what he deems fit.

So a team can get an inflated transfer fee for a player from a Saudi team and it’s good business but a player can’t triple his wages because that’s lacking ambition. Either he’s selected to the national team on merit or not. Also some of these other leagues they swear are better. I’m not so sure.

For someone who played professional football, Frank shows the naivety of an ordinary fan at times. You have players leaving Dutch and Portuguese teams that are in the champions league to play for some mid-table premier league team. Do you think the only reason they do that is to just be competitive? Of course not. Money is a massive reason why players move to better leagues. Ajax wage bill is less than of Leicester. A team that was in the freaking championship. Ivan Toney's contract was signed in the championship. So his wages reflected that. He had a desire for a big team because he knew they would pay wages that Brentford could never match. So let's stop with all this glorification about players thinking that they aren't motivated by money. Only a few elite can say that. For the rest, its a bigger part than we all want to admit.

If this was Jesse Lingard going to saudi at 26 (arguably far less talented than Bergwijn) people would be spinning this into a bad narrative. Now they applaude Bergwijn to grab his cash. People's opinions when it comes to football and money are completely arbitrary and bias.
