i personally think Pantera's discography beginning-end are essential to any metal fans collection. I also think if you are starting to get into Pantera start with Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display Of Power and then go into the heavier records of their's. I promise Dime's guitar work will blow you away and he is definitely one of the best metal guitarists of all time.

Crazy prayingmantis what do you mean? Tool is Progressive Metal Deftones is Alternative Metal Deafheaven is Blackgaze I’ll admit none of them are very heavy but that’s the point of recommendation as I said they are accessible albums. Imho I think they are a great jumping off point, better than some Meshuggah or Cannibal Corpse. Not wanting to argue but my albums are as metal or in some cases more metal than those in the video.

Metal and Vinyl. The first album that comes to mind to recommend to newcomers is the first Van Halen record. Regardless of what you think of Van halens discography, we can all agree that the first record is a banger of an album

Hey Matt. I would say that going into metal you have to listen to a Slayer album. Either "Reign In Blood" or "Seasons In The Abyss". Also check out an Iron Maiden album e.g. "The Number Of The Beast". Maybe Sepultura "Beneath The Remains" or "Roots". If you want to an intro to Death Metal, check out early albums by the band Death or Obituary. Of newer metal bands I highly recommend Behemoth's "The Satanist" album. 👍 Death - Individual Thought Patterns is probably the most epic metal album ever for a lot of reasons. Cream of the crop. It just got reissued by RELAPSE on vinyl, remastered. You could go into any of those guys other bands in that lineup and easily have a great, extremely diverse, and epic metal starter set. That albums line up was a hand picked all-star cast selected by the king of Death Metal, Chuck Schuldiner himself.

Appreciate the video, I love metal music, deep music and by far unappreciated this day and age. I am a little disappointed in this video though, you should have titled this video metal “suggestions” as it lacked a LOT of “essential” metal albums. While yes, Metallica deserves all praise for Master of Puppets, there are so many bands and albums worth mentioning as “essential.” For instance, Opeth’s Blackwater Park is about as amazing as Master of Puppets for me. Opeth is an amazing band but unfortunately they have changed band members a tad too much. Their best album is definitely Blackwater Park. Where is Sepultura? Pantera? Iron Maiden? Sabbath? These are bands with game changing albums that are “essential.” So, I still love the video and genre it focuses on but dislike how little was put into this video.

Respecting lists cause always it's a personal taste, but "essential metal" doesn't sound like that list to me at all.... and that being said, awful list in terms of quality (a full box set of a group so hard to be called metal cause it's more electronic/industrial like Rammstein, really? only that box set could cover different metal stages that are so important and as tittle says, essential). IMO Metallica is the only metal band on the list that I really associate as metal, despite all the different metal types that are so many. Don't wanna feel old school but about essential we are ignoring some metal pioneers like Black Sabbath, ACDC, Pantera, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Manowar (and that without adding Scorpions, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and other first inspirations). Then the second golden era I lived with Metallica, Megadeth, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Lacrimosa, Nightwish, Luca Turilli, Emperor, Haggard... and so many till more modern metal nowadays that to be honest, besides Avenged and some songs here and there I ignore pretty much.
