In this episode of Garden Talk, I interview Mark Boutwell from Perfect Gardens. He has been on the podcast once before (episode 28) and a countless number of you have requested that he come back for a part 2. This time around he picks up right where he left off - talking about some of the essential nutrients for plants. He also gets into some non-essential nutrients for plants. What type of plants do you like to grow? House plants, melons, fruit trees, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, kale, let us know in the comments section below. If you enjoyed this video please click that thumbs up button :)

I've learned a lot from mark. The number 1 thing I cant stress enough is be aware of insects. When I 1st started growing I overlooked insects. I mistaked insects for deficiencies. New growers, learn what spider mites, thrips and aphids are and how to identify and treat them. If you think you have a nitrogen deficiency or potassium deficiency check for spider mites etc.. they are super small black specs on the bottom of your leaf and you'll have tiny white spots on the top of leaf.

Boron: I was taught by a senior breeder that boron deficiency is far more common in plants developing seeds. I have come across it several times, but only in heavily seeded plants. It generally appears right after the seeds swell before they darken and the giveaway is the necrotic bract tips appearing at the most developed seeds. Easily and cheaply addressed with a single application of just a tiny pinch of borax in a gallon of water.

OMG this cobalt stuff before you said it sounds like a conspiracy i had come up with my own conspiracy about it lmao. What if cobalt also works as anti aging for humans? Might explain why it's not used in mainstream anti aging products afaik, and why there isn't much on earth. Could ancient powers have used it like a magical secret for nobility, depleted our soils from it, entering the dark ages where crops kept failing creating plagues, because nitrogen wasn't regenerated in the soil anymore in enough quantities. Wouldn't be the first time some parts of humans ruining history is kept a secret and probably in the archives on the Vatican.. lol... iirc nitrogen doesn't have a good enough source that's self sustainable other than plants interacting with the air. Maybe this is why they have a biotic synthesis. I learned recently that even nitrogen fixing plants such as clovers must be used in between grows, not during the same harvest, as it is their dying and breaking down in the soil that introduces nitrogen in the soil. A never ending humus layer of life returning to the Earth, keeping life possible in harmony. Until we started depleting the soil of cobalt and pouring concrete everywhere >:(

part 3 about soil composition ratios, density, textures and enzyme structures along with ionic charge transfer between nutrients and the lifecycle of every nutrient and enzymatic processes. I am convinced indoor if we could control vpd and temp with custom curves to simulate different day and night durations, we could impact the yield to stress the plant to its full potential. I'd love more info on all this at the molecular structural level please this is all amazing info thank you!!
@metasamsara
@metasamsara Жыл бұрын
PS: I have some skills in baking professionally, and to me this vpd + enzymatic processes reminds me a lot of making the perfect dough for the perfect use and baking of it. I think by drawing comparisons with food we could learn a lot about human nutrition as well. It manifests differently through reality, but who's to say a plant doesn't think or decide consciously? How we define awareness is specific to mammals really.

I grow outdoors in Up State NY. Most nights have been in the low 50s and sometimes down to 47. I have noticed that all my plants, the leaves never get Purkey. They never stand straight up reaching for the sun. And about a hour before dark they start to droop even more. I think my problem may be that I have to small of fabrick grow pots and they are root bound. Last year I had a problem with Powdery mildew and the plants were in the ground. late october is a bad time to be flowering if not in a green house or some kind of protection. This year I will be able to move them all into a green house if need to. The plants are 5 feet tall and in 3 or 5 gallon pots. I may cut the pot open and transplant it to chgeck root system out. Plants will go into flower any day now. Leaves not perkey?

I started off a mix of indoors, trying to go into outdoors, then realized, or thought it would be too cold Because my stepdad kept freaking out about supposedly the sun being a dying sun and the outdoors this time not providing enough for them to stay alive we ended up bringing them into the garage and they’ve been doing decent for the most part but at first, the leaves were definitely perk up but as it got colder into the 50s and even the 40s at night like
