I'll be kickin' it at SASQUATCH! Music Festival all this weekend! If you're hitting the festival circuit this summer, too, the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II ain't a bad option for getting those up close shots --> www.adorama.com/NK70200AF2U.html?KBID=72337 (pssst! it also happens to be in my essential gear list: blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/2014/03/essential-photo-video-gear-review-my-detailed-piece-by-piece-dont-leave-home-without-it-gear-breakdown/)

To all those complaining about Chase showing off, you're being ignorant. This is his job. Shit, I shoot weddings on the side semi-professionally and I have a bigger photo bag than Chase showed in this video. Oh, and I don't have to climb K2 in a storm to get my shots. This is "essential" gear for a paid commercial photographer.

The first gear video you made years ago was how I stumbled onto your work. Been a huge fan ever since, watching creative live, CJ Lives and keeping up with your blog and other content. You and the CJ crew have been a huge influence and inspiration in my own creative aspirations. Not sure why I'm writing this all. Anyways thanks for the inspiration and constant creative motivation.

So how about an updated workflow video, Chase? I've noticed a lot of people switching way from Aperture because Apple seems to have forgotten it. I actually just switched back to Final Cut Pro X with the 10.1.1 update which fixed a lot of the issues that made me jump ship.

Since you use both Nikon and Canon - how did you arrive at using Nikon for still photos over the Canon? I ask because I shoot Fuji XF, but as Fuji releases more lenses and new bodies it seems the Fuji method will no longer save money nor much size, and it's limited to being an APS-C system. I was never pleased with my Canons for skin tones (I stopped at 5D Classic), and am debating going back to dSLR, but this time with Nikon.

I've been flying a lot recently (I'm a one man crew, doing video only), and I've been trying to find the best way to bring along my support gear (tripods, mic boom for shotgun mic, light stands, etc). Any suggestions? Currently I carry my support gear in a Photoflex transpac single kit case, but I always run over that 50 lb mark and I can barely squeeze everything in there.
@ChaseJarvis10 жыл бұрын
Padded golf club travel bags work awesome for a bunch of like (read: long) items. Also, if you can get some status on an airline (ie fly more than 25 or 50k miles in a year you can take up to 70lbs of gear per bag, up to 3 bags. also, an expeditor like BellAir will ship gear anywhere in the world for you. check them out.

Does the essential photography & video gear kit consists of helpful software such as Video Editing, Video Repair, JPEG Repair and Photo Recovery? IMO such software should be listed in the gear as essentials. Stellar has rolled Video Repair, Photo Recovery and JPEG Repair bundle (Titanium Edition) to assist professional photographers.

hah I have held back on purchasing a Canon 70-200 because I keep fighting with myself over the f2.8IS vs the f4IS . Thank you for taking your time to make this video bro!

The title of this video is completely misleading. This is not essential gear.
@IanLEAU10 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is essential gear. I have a similar setup only with cheaper gear. If you've ever done travel photography, this template is what you should be using. Especially cleaning equipment under humidity, when your lens fogs up you don't want to get your greasy sweaty fingers all over it now would you.
@aiquelindo10 жыл бұрын
***** oh I see. Sorry I didn't know you needed all of this gear to be a "famous award-winning professional photographer". I guess talent doesn't matter anymore and in the old days, prior to the invention of all this paraphernalia you couldn't be such as thing as a "famous award-winning professional photographer". In that case he should have titled the video "Essential gear for famous award-winning professional photographers".
@geryong57129 жыл бұрын
It is essential for producing pro level results. Sure, you can do a lot of things with just an iPhone (hint: search 'the best camera is the one that you have with you ', I bet you are more famous than the guy who said it) I guess you can produce 10k worth images with just a smartphone, that is why you said that.
