I got my female Quaker from a pet store around 3 years ago. You could tell at first that she wasn’t used to a lot of things bird. She didn’t really know how to be a bird. Her wings were clipped so she didn’t know how to fly . She’s all bird now lol she flies and lands so well. She’s been an amazing bird. I Love her so much. I hate any kind of animal mill. But I’m so glad we gave her a home to be spoiled and Loved. We got our male from someone who does it in her home she’s such an amazing breeder her babies are so well taken care of.

Yes yes and yes regarding the avoiding chain pet shops... I got all of my birds from a very good local parrot shop that supplies breeder information, vet records, ect. So I know where my birds are coming from. As for a emergency vet fund I have a CareCredit card with a $2000 limit ser aside just for them.

I have a green cheek, I sadly do not have two cages but he does really good with his one cage he spends a lot of time on my bed or on my shoulder while I leave the room his cage is in. I got him from a local pet store in Humble Texas called ABC Birds and I drove a couple hours to get there. They do really good they handfeed treats and such so that the birds are comfortable around humans, they teach all their birds to step up, after giving them a good half hour to eat breakfast they take out all the birds and let them play on playgrounds. They have two massive ones one for the smaller birds like conures/Quaker parrots and one for bigger birds like macaws and cockatoos just Incase they don’t want a fight between a tiny green cheek and a massive macaw and it end badly. So they spend a good amount of time out of their cage playing with other birds aswell. I feel like they do good and require you either show them a picture/video of the cage you got or show them the cage you plan on buying to make sure it’s big enough. They give you lots of nutrition facts and care even if you do research and even give you a packet in case you forget I always feel so bad for the cockatiels and parakeets at my local petsmart. Sure they have other birds but the second a human walks by they get frightened. I will never buy one because they aren’t properly socialized and they come from shady places where they could have sicknesses

Hey Ally I've heard amazing things about ABC birds!!! Seems like everyone I've talked to about them has had very positive experiences. Yes I totally agree with you it's sad. What makes it worse too is not only are they in a place where they are absolutely frightened, but majority of the time the workers don't know what to do to socialize them. Here are three additional items for a first aid kit. Number one is a small transport cage or carrier to place the bird into when you take it to the vet or need to put it in a small quiet Place if it is injured or sick. Number two is a warming plate or thermal heat lamp to keep the injure or sick bird warm to keep their core temperature warm. This improves blood flow, circulation and helps their immune systems to fight off infections and reduces shivering which adds to physical stress. Thirdly, keep liquid calcium drops (made strictly for birds) to dilute in water and provide to a distressed hen if she is sick from egg binding. If the birds is too weak or won’t drink on her own, coax her to open her beak and give very small drops of calcium solution with an eye dropper or small syringe equipped with a soft, silicone catheter or plastic crop needle. This latter treatment plus warming the egg bound hen is life saving!!! Sorry this is so long!

Tbh if I saw a pic of him like if you dm me on Instagram or Twitter @victoriryann I'd have a better idea. But if you aren't able to... how's his diet right now and do you think he's warm enough? Also check his breathing, weight, any discoloration of the mouth or fluid coming from his eyes. Those are the biggies that will tell you if he needs immediate medical attention. Yoshi did that for his first molt and I just made sure he got plenty of sunlight and he was fine ☺️ let me know I wanna make sure Pippin is ok!!

Since I am getting my green cheek conure wendsday. The little guy will be my first bird but I've done extensive research and my ex aunt taught me how to care for birds. Now my question is travel because I want the bird to feel secure (as secure as he can since the bird will be stressed has to travel a hour to his/her new home. Does anyone have suggestions as to what kind of travel carrier I should get? The options I saw was a small cage, then a messenger type bag with a Perch in it. Or a backpack with a Perch. I was thinking of getting the backpack version with the pearch because I am handicapped and need to use crutches to get around. So if anyone has suggestions I'd be grateful. Thank you for this I was joking with my mom about getting a bird as we were talking about me getting to get something that involves me having to take care of it even though they are my #1 choice of pet and she said she had a feeling that is getting older and conuers just had baby’s whitch two of them they weren’t taking care of so she had to take them to work in order to feed them every 4 hours but as she is getting older 5 or so conures are a bit much and she has been thinking of re homeing them so I’m might be getting one and I am very excited for this so I have been doing my research as I will pay for everything from the cage to the feed and will be applying for my first job tomorrow n a couple of weeks so after I start getting paid I will start purchasing the ideas I can get in advanced like toys and perches and soon a cage before so in prefer to show my mom I really do want to have a bird and will take the responsibility I’m putting together a list and this video has helped a lot new subscriber to be able to learn as much about parrots and conures as I can

If your bird is female, I would not give them seeds, I did with my green cheek and she started to pull her feathers out from her chest area, the vet said it was because seeds have a lot of fat in them and will cause the hormones to go into overdrive. females will pluck their chest feathers in order to keep the eggs warm. When I stopped giving her seeds, she stopped plucking

Please take the myrightbird.com test! I got a green cheek conure! It helps a lot to see the right bird for you! I persuaded my mom to let me have one. She said yes if I do get better! I am ill currently. She fell in love with them at the pet store. Females require a lot of vet care since they can lay eggs. They tend to get egg bound or other reproductory illnesses. Males are usually hardy. But as they get very old, they more vet care. They can get stones in their noses. So yea. Parrots need vet care. Males are just easier to take care of. I asked other people who had parrots in their life.

Hey Victoria. We got Ollie fro Premium Pet Supply. It took like a week for him to adapt. One question: did Yoshi ever go through a biting phase? Ollie seems to wanna bite me every time I want him to step up, then eventually he will fly to my shoulder and just chill. I’ve read its a phase they go through, and I saw your video on biting and try just to be firm telling him no biting but not raising my voice. Any other suggestions? Well that's the crazy thing about birds it's like the moment you notice a sign that their sick... It's serious and vital to take them to a vet. They'll get irritated from molting, perhaps a little cold temperature wise, and hormonal issues make them irritable. But everything else should be taken very seriously. It's weird they don't get like a little cold that you simply go to a drugstore and purchase some medicine. So to answer your question for actual sickness... Hopefully never!! Hi Victoria, this is Arpan from India. I have one yellow sided conure name Coco. age 3 month older. since the summer come she is not taking any veg, seeds (except Sun seeds), Chickpeas (chana). She only eats apple, grapes and like I said sun flower seeds. Why is it so? New to the channel, thanks for the information. 👍 I am hoping you might have some advice in reference to my Conure, CC. She was originally my daughters bird for several years. When she moved to an apartment that didn't allow caged pets, I became CC'S care taker for 2 yrs before taking her back to my daughter. After a recent visit to my daughter, I noticed CC'S not so great diet, my daughters lack of interaction with her and some other indications of her not thriving. I brought her home with me and have had issues ever since. She shows no interest in any of her toys, she won't stay on the table top toy I made for her and the biggest issue is the continual screaming. If she us not with me it it incessant. She sits at the edge of her cage and rakes her beak across the cage while screaming. I love her very much because she is a sweetheart, but I am reaching my ropes end. Hey Victoria, so i have had my bird spectre for about a month now and lately he has been a little aggressive, like when i go to get him out of the cage he will fluff up the feathers on his neck and bob his head up and down really fast but when i try to open the cage door he will try to get me through the bars, but once i get my hand into the cage for him to step up he will be fine and calm. And he has been getting my hand while he is on my hand, and when he bites he is not peircing the scin but it does hurt, and usually when i tell him to stop biting he will do it, but when i tell him to stop now he keeps on biting. But i have been wrapping my hand in the sleeves of my hoodie so when he bites it doesn't hurt, and when he does bite and i don't react to it he doesn't do it as much. But other than that he's doing great so i don't know if he's going through the terrible two's or if he is being territorial, i would appreciate it if you could give me some advice
