It's funny how Norman Lear made sure that All in the Family featured a family with a married couple, but insisted that Florida be a single mother in Good Times. He was a piece of garbage.

The description of JJ is incorrect. First he was a high school student, so why did he have to work. Second, there were plenty of episodes of JJ working. He had the food delivery job, he had the movie usher job, he sold his artwork and had commissioned jobs for his art (he was paid $250 to paint mural for a black owned bank), he taught art lessons to his peers, he had a job as a greeting card illustrator and last a comic strip cartoonist for which he sold his comic strip character Dyno Woman...

Me 2, still love it! It takes me back to my childhood. I can remember coming home from school rushing to get my homework done! At 4pm, a show on a Philly station called, Dancin on Air, used to come on. It was about high school kids in the area dancing. Then at 5 & 530pm, Good Times, would come on and I'd laugh my azz off like crazy for an entire hour. After that, at 6pm, on a public tv channel, Dark Shadows would come on. It was about a man that was turned into a vampire by an evil witch because he didn't want her so she wanted revenge. I watched that as well everyday. I remember it used to come on when I was 5yrs old. It used to scare the ish outta me so bad that I used to hide under the bed lol. Thank God I overcame the fear of that show

As J.J got older he matured quite a bit...Him having two loving supportive parents was a big help along the way... Considering how his J.J character was supposed to only be 17 years old. Not a mature 21 year old when the series debuted..There are alot of kids who could relate to him because they was kinda like him.. being Creative... Maybe they are wonderful...have great potential...Show great Promise in a different way....Maybe like J.J was... they were not the most scholasticlly/academically inclined..Michael and Thelma was that way. ..J.J. had Artistic Talent/ his personality is also artistically inclined....He would do well in the Creative career field..Sometimes Parents have to embrace who their kids really are and the gifts skills and talents....Great abilities that are God given...It's sad the family couldn't keep her house up...Those things happen...Maybe they gave it a good try...Hope she loved and enjoyed living there while she was alive..

One of my favorite Florida Evans moments was when she got Michael out of the street gang by threatening the gang members with a baseball bat. She was tough, beautiful, wise, and loving. Another favorite was the episode with the Black doctor) played by Paula Kelly) who did make house calls in the ghetto, that is until she met Florida Evans. There are many more favorites. Esther Rolle was a beautiful talent. May she continue to rest in peace.

@@yvonneallison8521 So true, my mother made me promise her that upon her changing of realms, to keep her home. The house is a huge, old fashioned mansion, with original oak and red wood throughout the home. Stained glass windows, just a gem. She refused to get rid of the old furnace that was made in the very early 1900’s. My husband found someone to repair it, the older gentleman was stunned bc it’s hard to find original designed things like that, he even repaired it for cheap. House is kept up beautifully, if she leaves b4 me her wish will be upheld. My mom&pops worked hard outside of that home to maintain it. Although I’m a modern girl I appreciate antiques and phenomenal woodwork. White folks have tried to buy it from her but she refuses to sale. My husband and uncle help her keep it up bc Daddy passed. We must learn to cherish what our parents worked so hard for.

No it was not! the main person I liked in the show was John Amos. The father, y'all thinking process was wrong, we all liked JJ but my focus was on John Amos he was the funny person, JJ had some good jokes but it still didn't take my focus off John Amos, that's the star of that show.

One of the best television shows. Now, we have a bunch of clown shows just as they planned. Iam happy Esther Rolle and John Amos stood their ground. They will forever be remembered.

I agree with Esther Rolle’s view point of J J’s role on the show 100%. As the show went on I got to hate Jimmy Walker part on the show.h

I was waiting to see if anyone else understood. I must say his foolishness was quite unbearable, putting a comedian, with a seasoned actress, wasn't the best direction for this classic show to go at all, now he is old, angry, and bitter, because all he will be ever known for, is( Dynamite)

What did this narrator say? "Ain't you glad you let your fingers do the walking because you got kid Dynamite doing the talking?" I've never heard JJ say that. They're always trying to tell our stories and don't know anything.

Now I love Esther she was a pioneer woman! Great actress but the script's they gave her had me so mad😂🤣 I was so mad at how Thay had her crying and begging and pleding for james not to try to get them out of the getto he found the money from the store robbery he didn't take it he found it and cried and begged him to give it back when he had to shot pool to get the rent she cried for him not to do it the kids tried to find away she stopped them she mad me so mad😂 i had to remember it was tv and somebody was writing those script's i still want to know who it was😂but I still watch it its one of my favorite sitcom's of all times besides sanford and son and the Jefferson's and Maude and what's happing and That's my mama and Julia and flip Wilson and room 222 and the bill Cosby show when he played the role coach Kent Kincaid that really takes me back I miss those days so much I really wish I could go back those were the best of times Esther is indeed a ledgendary woman and a wonderful actress she's dearly missed but never forgotten she's a significant part of my childhood and I thank her for that she paved the way for a lot of color men and women actors and actresses bless her ❤️

It's crazy how they switched up for good times. On Maude Florida not only had a husband but he was a fireman!!!!!! She left because he didn't want her to work anymore because he was making good money. How in the hell did it get turned into what we saw on good times. JJ was nothing but a minstrel.
