You asked about the what happens if a plane misses a cable when landing? When a naval aircraft's wheels touch the deck, the pilot instantly pushes the throttle to max, regardless if he hit a cable or not. This way, if he does miss it, the plane will have enough thrust to take back off again for another chance. If he does grab a cable, its strong enough to withstand the force of the plane at full throttle. Once the pilot knows he caught it, he pulls the throttle all the way back to idle.

US NAVY vet here. I was on the US Kitty-hawk cv-63 in Iraq and Afghanistan. You're absolutely right the ships wheel basically just tells the guys in the lower decks how much to turn the rutter. Kitty-hawk was the smallest carrier at the time and it was 1,080 yards from forward to aft and weighted over 38,000 tons without aircraft. Seeing a carrier close up from the shore is one of the most amazing things I've ever scene. Even the smallest and oldest one was absolutely, unbelievably massive. She's at the bottom of the ocean now R.I.P. we called her the shitty kitty.

I was on the USS Kitty Hawk in the 1980s. We had excellent food, in my opinion. Occasionally, steak and lobster, omelets the way you wanted them, burgers and fries... They really did a good job cooking food for people from all over the country - like cooking food for people from all over Europe. They're not usually going to make everyone happy, but you'd get to eat stuff you might never have had before, and sometimes find new stuff you'd really like. And it was always fresh! No MREs in the Navy!
@knicknevin99753 жыл бұрын
That's something we often forget- nuclear powered ships are essentially steam powered. We're using some fancy ass technology to heat the water and make the steam, but the core mechanism is the same as it was 150 years ago. Hot rocks make the steamboat go.

So Artur, you mentioned how surprised you were seeing and F/A-18 with a Gatling gun. Actually, every single Fighter, Attacker and Multirole aircraft in the US military is equipped with a 20mm six barrel Gatling gun (Except the A-10 with its 30mm seven barrel one). Why? In Vietnam, Missiles were threatening to make the old fashion gun obsolete, so the US decided to stop using guns on their aircraft in favor of missiles. The first plane made without a gun was the famous F-4 Phantom II. It was built without a gun and only equipped with missiles and bombs. However, when they fought against the MiG-17s of the Vietnamese, they found their missiles were faulty and unreliable. And with no guns, F-4 pilots found themselves with malfunctioning or no missiles in a dogfight, and with no gun, had no way to defend themselves. The US military quickly realized their mistake, and cancelled all future projects of gun-less planes. They instead began to mount Belly-guns to the existing F-4s to give them a chance to fight back. But ever since then, the US Military made a vow, that all future aircraft would be equipped with a gun to make sure they were never left defenseless again.

It's meant to be able to traverse shallow waters and patrol US costal waters(the littorals, where it gets its name), yet it can go into the deep ocean(blue water) and carries naval strike missiles and other anti-ship missiles and can fight off destroyers.

Hey man love your videos. I work at one of the labs that design those reactors. They're an interesting combination of high-tech (obviously) and simplicity (so it's not too complex for the sailors and to reduce failures & simplify maintenance). We could probably design them to be more efficient, but it would take a bigger crew and a lot more maintenance, which is counter to the navy's goal. We just make them rock solid and go for decades without refueling. Also it's nice to know that the reactor that they show doesn't really look like an actual A4W/A1G reactor, considering that that design is classified.

Btw, there is a place where you can watch the carriers go through a “river”, Panama Canal
@puellamservumaddominum61803 жыл бұрын
No you can't super carrier is too big for Panama Canal It has to go around south America if wants to go from atlantic to pacific
@sadiekincaid53102 жыл бұрын
The only "River" you will see an aircraft carrier going through is the Suez Canal. When an US aircraft carrier go from one coast of the US to the other coast of the US they don't go down around South America because it's too dangerous. If an aircraft carrier is going from the west coast to the east coast they will do what's called A World Cruise. That means they'll start from their former home Port and go through the Pacific into the Indian Ocean from the Indian Ocean go through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and from there head to east coast of the US. Now if they're headed from the east coast to the West Coast they'll go from the East Coast into the Mediterranean ocean then through the Suez Canal into the Indian Ocean then into the Pacific and on to whatever port of the West Coast they were going to for their new Home Port is.

32:50 Simply put, planes do miss the arrester cables occasionally, so as soon as the plane touches the flight deck, the pilot will usually push their aircraft's engines into full-throttle so they can take-off again just in case.

It’s cool to see your excitement brother, great reactions. It’s how I felt the first time I learned all of these things. No piece of machinery in men’s history can match the aircraft carrier.

Alot of this info is Dated given the Nimitz is already being phased out for the Ford Class Carriers. One of the biggest changes is the electronic launch system that works like a rail gun to launch planes at a higher sortie rate..

Submarines are usually found the same way the submarines find other ships- Sonar. In the old days, that meant the detecting ship would then bounce sound waves off the submarine, getting it's depth, and then the ship would steer overhead and drop. These days, they use anti-submarine rockets and torpedoes. This is also why modern submarines rarely- if ever- use their active sonar, since the sound they send out can be used to get a fix on their position. The best subs in the world are not only the quietest... but also the best at listening on passive sonar.

Don't change the way you do your videos, the pausing does not bother the people who like to watch you. Even to people who already know about what your watching. Your reactions, and questions are one of the biggest reasons we watch.

I’ve been waiting for this thanks✌️ Also Britain take note of these designs you could learn a lot and have a much better carrier

Their issue is military spending. One reason the US can create these weapons systems is we print the world's money. We literally can create wealth. Doing so obviously creates inflation but it's the dollar.
@T-Dawg123a3 жыл бұрын
according to stats on Wikipedia a Ford class carrier would cost about a quarter of the UK's yearly defense budget. I doubt they would spend that much on developing and purchasing one ship. that also doesn't count the other expenses such a ship brings.

@@T-Dawg123a And they don't need to. The US has 12 carriers. It's not like the US would allow anything bad to happen to Britain.

the f35 has two engines one in the front and one in the back so that's why it look like its open it's air brake.
@puellamservumaddominum61803 жыл бұрын
F 35 only has one engine. It does have a lift fan but that is not a second engine by a long shot.

Artur, the bombs that you was watching in the historic scene with the corvettes were mines, meaning they threw them in the water and when Germans hit it they blow up. the people in the corvettes were not detonating them

Artur, when landing on carriers (I believe) right as they’re about to land, they slam on full throttle so they can abort if they miss the wires or otherwise need to pull up fast.

I love your videos! It is good to see someone from a country that was once part of the Soviet Union react to US power not to mention NATO! As a member of NATO, Estonians are assured of protection from Russia!
