Estoril 1942 Review - with Tom Vasel

The best thing about this review? To know that the industry is growing in Portugal! This game's designer, the same guy that designed Panamax is one among others really striving to "create an industry". We need more boardgames, and boardgamers. Thank you Tom for reviewing this! And thanks Gil D'Orey, for making it! Weirdly enough, this theme (espionage in Lisbon during WWII) motivated one entry in my "Games' Ideas notebook" (completely different mechanics). This may show that "great minds think alike" (what is modesty?), or that this really is an amazing theme, and one that should have more designers (not necessarily Portuguese) working on!

Funny - it was the game's name - and its "historical" sound - which *drew* me to the review...lol. If it had been something like "Spy vs. Spy" - I probably would have ignored it.

I'm the exact opposite. I know nothing of Estoril and with the year 1942 it makes me yawn thinking it's some boring war game with an audience only intended for wherever this city is in the world.

Games that rely heavily on location or orientation of components don't tend to appeal to me (Neuroshima Hex), but this one is fairly intriguing. Wouldn't mind trying it out.

+Jim Alexander Yes, the game for now is only released in portuguese but upon checking it's BGG page there's the english rules there. And since it's language independent there's no hassle by getting the portuguese version. +John Reynolds I guess you could email them to find out. I'm not in anyway related to the company but know about the website because that was how I picked up my copy, but since I was passing by Portugal I had it delivered to an address there and ended up not paying for postage. :)

I did email them and shipping to the US was just about the same cost as the game - so it looks like I'll be waiting for a English release. Tom's gotta quit teasing us with these great games we can't have. It's just cruel!
