Man, I loved it too (for the most part) but I’m still trying to figure out exactly how this will fit in with the rest of the MCU moving forward. I also knew it was divisive but I didn’t realize quite how divisive. Seems like it’s a film people love or hate, not much in-between.

Solidly Rank this at #26. Not rewatchable in anyway. The Director has said she was inspired by "Man of Steel" so she made a movie as mediocre as that one. Kit Harrington apparently didn't learn anything from "Game of Thrones" because he is blaming the fans for not liking it. Bad writing is bad writing.

Yo I absolutely called Blade at the end where everyone in the theater around me was saying it was the Watcher. I could not be more hyped right now. Also I really liked Eternals. Edit: I wrote this as soon as I started but now I'm at the end and WOW.. 26?!?! C'mon Tim. This movie is wayyyyyyy better than that. Our lists are VERY different but Kevin is right on the money with his placement. Like wow. Did Nick say he didn't like the flashback stuff & thought there should be less of it? I thought the opposite. I think if this movie was firmly set during Ancient Greece/Mesopotomia/Egypt days it would've been much more interesting. Every MCU project out there is present day, no one else other than _Eternals_ right now can show us the MCU's ancient past.

I thought the conflict was interesting. The discussion of let nature take its course or if you can prevent something should you. Like the planet will be destroyed but billions of other life will come from it. But the have the ability to possibly stop it, and should they do it but stop “nature” from making billions of lives down the road just to save humans. It’s a real conversation to be had with current day.

It's pretty difficult to get hard cosmology concepts to stick with audiences I imagine, but I actually really liked the emotional journey they used to play it out. This was not a good movie in my opinion, but the best parts revolved around these moral dialogues. I really dug this movie, and I think seeing Dune not long before helped that. For an MCU film that has all new characters, I liked a lot of the exposition that explains where they fit in the universe. I’m sure people will look back on this as something similar to Age of Ultron - meaning it sets up a lot of plot points for future projects, but I like it’s artistry as a self-contained film.

Eternals should've been a D+ show IMO. We got a little bit with every character, but I felt we missed out on really connecting with them and fleshing out their relationships, their changing mindsets, as well as giving the story enough time to develop. Towards the end things would happen and only afterward we were given an explanation of what happened and why it happened. I think more time would have smoothed out these problems a little more.

Yeah, or a two-parter. First one would've been seeing them around the history, seeing how they had fought the Deviants and helped humanity. We could've also get some really cool character development there, and it would've been a good build-up for part two. Part Two could essentially be this movie. We wouldn't need the flashback sequences, not so much exposition, and certain events would've been more exciting. SPOILERS BELOW: If this had been a two-parter, Ajak's death would've hit a lot harder if we would've already gotten some character for her. I feel like it would also help understanding the characters and the pacing better.

My biggest pet peeve....why the hell are the celestials speaking English with a British accent? It's a giant alien space God that creates GALAXIES! Give me subtitles and do some kind of cool vocal mix where it's different languages layered on top of each other and mixed with animal noises or something where we clearly can't understand what it's saying but it somehow sounds familiar......you know....like u just did with the deviant when it was starting to evolve....DUH!
@darksteel913
@darksteel913 2 жыл бұрын
Why not? What's to say that they dont sound like some incomprehensible language and sound normally but they are so powerful that there voice manifest in a way the creature listening to in can understand. They use a similar concept with Galactus. Galactus only looks human because every sentient being perceives him as a form resembling their own.

The villains were easily the biggest letdown for me because they squandered two very good conceptual antagonist by trying to do both. Deviants becoming cognizant of what's happened to them and how the Celestials made them and now want them exterminated? Great dig deeper on that, especially considering the Eternals are in a similar boat of being used. Ikaris being a blindly loyal soldier, but also still loving his family and not wanting to hurt them, also great show that more too. Instead we got both half assed with not a lot of time dedicated to them and in the end one is literally used as a random distraction for Thena and the other was short changed to his inner conflict was less impactful. I know re-writing a movie after seeing it is boring and pointless, but they had a really good opportunity to make both work with changes. Have cognizant Deviant show up earlier and drive the plot and story forward. Have them fight it and it reveals the truth about Arishem and Ikaris betrayal, causing them to question what they want to do. Then go forward with that and them individually coming to terms with whether they agree or not. Or just commit to one enemy completely because there's a great story individually as well. Overall I wasn't a big fan, it was alright, but it also took a lot of big swings too so I respect it for that.

I really liked this movie. It wasn’t perfect. I liked all of the characters for the most part but some of the writing was off. Like, I get that they are trying to teach the audience the characters names but in a normal conversation when people are talking, you don’t end a statement or question with the person’s name. EX: “I can’t believe you’re doing this, KINGO” because remember his name is Kingo… in case you forgot. But other than that, I liked the plot, the celestial stuff was sick, the comedy was hit or miss like the rest of the MCU but it does land pretty frequently. A fun time! Of the same caliber as a Doctor Strange or AntMan, and that’s impressive considering the number of characters. last note is that I really like Barry Keogan’s acting. And I was impressed with Kumail’s because the trailer made me think I’d hate him but he was probably my favorite of the group. Oh and the super speed power in this was rad.

About Ikaris and Sersi, i think the lack of chemistry might were intentinal. They were apart for a long time, were super different in personality and Ikaris had this secret that kept him distance not only fisically but emotionally from Sersi( even though he love her) and away from humanity.

This movie had a lot of cool moments, and I really enjoyed the humor, mainly because it helped with the pacing and subpar writing. The middle of this movie is such a slog and much of the acting and dialogue missed the mark for me. Even with lowered expectations I found myself disappointed. EDIT: Kumail Najiani, Brian Tyree Henry, and Ma Dong Seok were the best parts, they had real personality and moments to shine, even if we only got some top layer development.

SPOILERS*** I hated the sentient deviant storyline, it was so pointless and went absolutely nowhere. They could have cut that out of the movie and it would've been way better for it. The main storyline was actually way more compelling and they shoehorned in this terrible character just for a few action scenes.

Agreed. They could've had the absorbing thing never exist and only have them there for the sake of; 1. The Eternal's Existence and 2. Ikaris' scape goat. After the big reveal they could've finished them off, but even more than that I wish that they did something meaningful with the character. Hopefully, since Deviants aren't exclusive to earth, it comes back in a big way in a sequel.

Better yet have Thena fight it long enough to show that she's beginning to heal from her illness and gain the upper hand in the fight, but before the finishing blow the Uni mind begins and that includes the deviant bc they absorbed 2 Eternals. There it empathizes with The Eternal's, and once Sersi has turned the Celestial to stone, the deviant sprouts wings and leaves the planet to liberate more of it brethren on other planets.

It was lacking in emotion and character development and it didn't have any clear villain or a protagonist I could relate to. The movie made the potential world ending event feel like a big "meh". SPOILERS . . . . I don't know, man I just feel indifferent about this movie. Don't really care about it either way. My problem is that I just don't buy the information that was given to me. Like, Arishem says he lost control of the deviants, don't buy it at all. You're this fucking all powerful, god-like being and you couldn't take them out yourself? He literally just comes to Earth himself in some black hole warp wormhole and just takes three eternals and dips. He just takes them with no problem. Why couldn't he just come to Earth and take the Deviants that had evolved and taken them out? Also, he created eternals specifically to take out the deviants who had evolved, why would you give the eternals free will who would be able to turn against you? Why doesn't he just make them literal robots who do one thing? Also, when the eternals killed the deviants the first time, why did Arishem take so God damn long to call them back home? I guess you could say there were still deviants left. But like, there were deviants frozen in ice? Really? None of the eternals had any idea about this in 7000 years? Don't buy it. Just don't. There are aalll these other eternals apparently on other planets who've been hatching celestials, and one thing I'm curious about is if none of the other eternals betrayed Arishem. Like, does this shit happen all the time, or was this the first time? Arishem is just really inefficient at this aspect of his job, bro. Lmaaaooo. When it said the Eternals would return, I kinda just didn't care and am not excited to see them again in future movies. I didn't really connect with any of them, except funny enough Kit Harrington's character, and he wasn't even in the shit. LOOOOL. To be fair, I just like Kit Harrington so there's that. The deviants and the consciousness? Fucking worthless. What a waste of time. That dude and all that amounted to nothing. Also, question. So do the celestials ACTUALLY give a shit about life, or is their sole purpose to create more celestials? Or is that just Arishem's purpose? Fuck it. Who even cares. I don't, personally. This movie was just kinda disappointing for me. I'd love to actually love it, but I don't, and I don't necessarily dislike it either. I enjoyed the visuals, the action was awesome, but unfortunately I did find myself bored. Reason being is because there are so many of these eternals, and I don't particularly care for any of them, so when stuff is happening I was just like, eh. Whatever, I guess. 🤷‍♂️ There that's it. 😅😂

So are superheroes just not gonna exist in the 1930s when Superman was created? In real life we have firefighters, doctors, serial killers, lawyers, etc. But we still get fiction based on completely unrelated, fictitious characters. I don't see it as a massive stretch that the MCU wouldn't have Superman comics because Iron man exists.

Just starting the video but wanted to jump in before and say i just got home from seeing it and I actually enjoyed it a lot! It’s not one of the best Marvel movies but it’s not bad at all. Pacing was a little off but other than that i really liked the different characters and i love how much this movie sets up more crazy shit in the MCU! The future is looking great and I can’t wait! Excited to see what you guy’s thought.

Definitely a slow burn. The first 45 minutes were painfully boring for me. But once it picked up it was good. Not great not ok but good. I loved twist, the final battle, and the abruptness of the ending. All in all, I definitely see how this got the Rotten Tomatoes score. While I don’t think it’s quite a 68% or whatever I do think I’d put this on Par with Thor 1. This was more Action/Adventure than this was MCU.

It really makes absolutely no sense to me how so many critics gave more negative reviews for this movie than Thor 2. And yet audiences score it so high. I get that it’s not for everyone but seriously it doesn’t deserve this amount of negativity. However, given how so many countries around the world are banning this movie because it depicts a gay married man as one of the main characters and how this is also the most diverse cast of any Marvel movie yet, maybe that is the actual reason. I mean RT confirmed that a lot of “fans” review bombed this movie before it came out because it depicted a gay man as a main character.

It’s sad that people still can’t be tolerant of others. Like, yikes. The review scores seem way low. I’m not saying this should be in the 90s, but at least low 70s/high 60s. It’s a beautiful film in many respects. Thor 2 is absolute trash.

*Spoilers ahead! This is your one warning!* I really liked the fight between Makkari and Ikaris but the whole time I was thinking: 'Wow. Imagine if DC could do this with The Flash and Superman.' Like it was just on a whole other level than any fight scene between superpowered characters in a DC movie. The Ikaris VS everyone fight was almost Infinity War levels of action in terms of how we got to see a big group fighting all out with their unique powers and approaches to dealing with things. It was very cool.

I thought the same especially when i thought about makkari. I thought she was the best use in a movie of the "fast character" id ever seen cuz often the movie makers just try really hard to think of something else that character can be doing in action sequences and i just loved the eay makkari moved in this one.

I had to wait month for this video.. I enjoyed this movie. yeah it had it down falls in some points of jumps in story or why character decided certain paths. Still I agree with Kevin that 10 years from now ppl will be looking back on this as the star of another saga. The potential of judgement, could it be the fact that earth changed Thanos plan which would of been set backing for the celestials. Percolating as Kevin said of what if...

I do agree that there were certainly questionable moments in this movie. The time jumps are by far my biggest complaint, I wasn't a fan of the frequency and how the narrative was structured. The deviants also just kind of felt like cannon fodder for the sake of advancing the plot. Normally I wouldn't really consider this a complaint, as it's a superhero movie. However, they built up the "alpha" deviant quite a bit and I felt like that plot thread went absolutely nowhere. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie overall. The characters and cast were fantastic. I loved learning about the Eternals and the Celestials. The "family dynamic," was so enjoyable to me. I can't wait to see what they do with these characters in the future, especially in the wake of that final sequence and the post-credits scene. I don't think it's quite as good as Shang-Chi, but I do think it is severely underrated from a critical standpoint.

i truly just don't see the point to making this movie NOW. I'd rather MCU had gone smaller with the Inhumans instead..then the mutants..THEN the Eternals..since it touches stuff about CREATION of the universe... and judging from what i saw..the movie felt like it still needs a lot more work on the script..and maybe was made in the wrong form. it fit better as a Disney+ show, either 4 or 6 parts. The whole thing just feels not cooked enough.

Nick nailed Gen Z on the head. So many people in my generation think any movie before the year 2000 is old. It is embarrassing. They pray to the Tik Tok Gods like mindless slaves. I am glad to be the exception, not the rule. I don't even have a Snapchat account much less Tik Tok. I barely touch Facebook. I miss VHS.

The RT score is baffling to me. I think it has pacing issues and A LOT going on, but it’s pretty damn good. The movie is gorgeous, extremely well acted, and the action scenes were shot very well. I think the ensemble is handled well for the most part and characters have tons of heart. The humor felt genuine and natural, and THE twist was well done. I felt for these characters. I do think the deviants are just pointless but I was expecting that. It’s different and tonally more mature. More positives than negatives for me. SPOILERS: The Icarus twist makes him one of the better villains of the MCU. I loved his final scene with Sersi, where he finally understood and felt what Ajak was talking about when she said “humanity changed me.” Very similar to Omni-Man from Invincible. He wasn’t a mustache-twirling villain. He let his beliefs and ideology blind him, which is also great subtext for today’s world about religion.

I enjoyed how different it felt but that’s really about it. I didn’t connect with the characters, felt the action was lackluster, and while I liked the ideas felt they didn’t have enough time to flesh them out since there is so much going on. Unfortunately I just was kinda bored. Not a bad movie but not a good one either, kinda just there and I have no interest in revisiting it. Bottom tier for me.
